hi I am hoping anyone else with home contents insurance in the Blue Mountains has some advice? Who did or do you go through? I understand some areas are harder to insure than others especially for things like fire. Any advice will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Any other Optus customers in the area having trouble with their phone lately? Can’t seem to get more than a single bar of reception when I’m in the mountains.
When I was a kid we used to visit some cabins in the blue mountains. 30 yeas later I’d love to take my kid to the same place. My dad can’t remember where it was, he thinks close to Wentworth falls. I’m hoping someone here can help me out.
The main thing I remember is that there was a playground that was filled with restored kids play equipment. The type where they would bend metal tubing to look rockets, elephants, planes… etc. you could clime all over them. there were heaps of these at the lodge grounds.
I think the story was that the owner had purchased them when they were being removed from public parks, and was restoring them for his lodge.
The other thing I remember is that it was on a hill and if you walked out of the lodge grounds there was another park at the bottom of the hill. It was a nice kids play park but I don’t remember it as vividly.
Any help appreciated
I am moving there shortly and thought I might try the 5G connection instead of FTTN NBN connection. Has anyone had experience with 5G home connections in the area? Has it been generally stable? I know latency will be higher, but it shouldn't be an issue with our needs.
Going to Katoomba today and going to hike when I’m there, I still have a few days left in Sydney and I was wondering if there is anywhere else I should go by train for good hikes another day?
Planning a trip to Blackheath and Mt Wilson, any suggestions when the colors will be at their best?
Hi there, My partner and I are visiting for his birthday this weekend.
Should I take him to echoes for a meal ? It’s got a bunch of poor reviews as well as a few good ones, just wondering if it’s worth it for the money.
Also looking at Ates in Blackheath, my partner is a chef and we come from a small coastal town with hardly any dining options so I would love to take him for a fancy meal (but most importantly delicious on Sunday!)
I’ve read some other reviews that the Korean place is great so we will def check that out.
Thanks in advance !
Hey folks. Looking for a handyman to install some insulation in my roof and put an awning over my window to stop the kitchen flooding!!! Upper mountains
Flying over the Blue Mountains on approach to Sydney from Malaysia last month. I should have started filming the complete trip across the Great Dividing Range but was just in wonder of the topography before thinking - “ hey, I gotta film this”. It’s amazing how flat the ground is before hand and flat afterwards - with a ripple of mountains “dividing” the two. Can anyone identify which area(s) I’m filming?
Wanted to answer u/EffectiveAmbitious53 about star gazing, but couldn't reply with photos.
I am living in west Sydney now so I was unable to get beyong Katoomba for star gazing. I have been to Blackheath, Lithgow, Bathurst etc, but not deep into the night, since returning home would be way too late.
By looking into light pollution data and investigating on the ground myself, I mainly photograph at 2 locations, Cahill's lookout and King's Tableland. Other places were either too close to the town, too close to the highway, or have too many trees.
I saw some grounds on the satellite map that looked good, but they are private farmlands and the owners would be angry if I trespass through the fence and set up a tripod on their lands. Therefore I have been using only public lands.
Taken from Cahill's lookout, Katoomba
Taken from King's tableland, on an opening along the road south of the Lincoln's lookout, where the road branches into the Power Easement.
I and my husband are planning to move to the south coast this year due to cost of housing We will probably have no more opportunity star gazing on the upper mountains. I will miss it.
Here's one taken in Kiama (off topic though)
With daylight savings over and the dark coming earlier I’m wondering if anyone has tips on the best spots in the upper mountains to look at the stars?
Hey, Just arrived to Australia and was planning to go to blue mountain for a day trip (today or tomorrow).
Plan was to do some bushwalks like:
But I can see that "All valley tracks and cliff passes will be closed from 1200 Thursday 4-4-2024 to 0800 Thursday 11-4-2024 due to forecast heavy rains and associated rockfall, landslide, treefall and flooding risks".
I am not sure if the routes I planned are "valley tracks and cliff passes" and whether they are affected. If anyone can guide me it would be great :) cheers
The weather in the Blue Mountains of Sydney has been foul this last week, then the brightest core Milky Way night and the clouds clear, rain ceases and we are good to shoot a time-lapse.
My extended family are coming to Australia from abroad and have decided to do a day trip to the Jenolan Caves.
Other than Leura for lunch and Echo Point for some photos - do you have any suggestions which aren’t too far of the beaten track which they could fit into the day.
Thanks in advance!
Staying at the hydro majestic on a Saturday night with my parents in a couple of weeks. Any pub recommendations for afternoon drinks and then dinner? Nothing too high end, it’s not their vibe.
Hi all, got a trip booked to the blue mountains on the 12th, is it still worth going? Will tracks be open again by then, love some local intel
Hi all, I've been seeing some mixed reports. Is the Glow Worm Tunnel Rd and Glow Worm Tunnel circuit open? I was thinking of doing this walk this Sunday if the weather improves/holds off
Hi, I'm travelling to Sydney (and Australia) for the first time, and want to spend some days hiking in the blue mountains, since they seem pretty cool.
I've read about the three sisters and the Wentworth falls, will definitely see those, but they seem very close to the cities, and I also wanted to do some long hikes.
For example, I read about the canyon track, Lockleys Pylon and Mt. Solitary.
My first question is: are they dangerous to do solo hiking? Like (sorry for the stereotype) are there any animals?
Then, do you have other suggestions for possible day hikes around Katoomba? Or tips in general for walking in the blue mountains?
Also, I saw a very intriguing path, from Mt. Solitary to the Kedumba campground and then back, and was wondering if there are people doing that route. I would camp there for the night and then go back, but I'm not very comfortable doing that by myself. Do you know if there are groups on social networks, or backpacker hostels there, where one could organize such trips?
Thank you very much for all your help! I'm looking forward to being there!
Does anyone know of any pubs in the Blue Mountains showing the Tim Tszyu vs Sebastian Fundora fight on Sunday? I'll be in the mountains visiting family and it would be good to catch the fight if I can
Hi i plan to hike Lockleys Pylon, was just wondering about the gravel road and then parking situation for this hike in 2024 since I can't find a recent article about this hike. Would the gravel road be suitable for a small yaris? I've read that its 10km long so i'm afraid there will be alot of potholes and such. And hows the parking situation will there be enough spots if I arrive just after 10am?
Hi all,
With the Easter long weekend kicking off - do we have any idea what the best time of day to travel west would be to avoid traffic tomorrow? Heading out to Cowra Thinking of leaving really early but also don’t want to get up at 3am if we’d be fine leaving later
