Small Christmas gifts for work?

Can anyone recommend a shop I could hit up for some small workplace end of year gifts? Sub $15, thinking nice chocolates or Christmas cookies or ornaments or similar? Would rather not do Kmart/ supermarkets. Thanks!

Horrific smell around Belmont

A few weeks ago, our area got hit by a fast and intense storm, which caused flash flooding. A few days later, while walking along the Waurn Ponds Creek trail, I noticed temporary signs posted by Barwon Water, reading, "There has been an accidental sewage leak around this area."

Now, I'm left wondering: how on earth does an entire town's sewage end up leaking into the area? And what's even more frustrating is that Barwon Water hasn’t done anything to address or clean up the mess.

On warm days, with a slight southerly breeze, I'm left to sit there and enjoy the aroma of Geelong's finest – the overwhelming stench of sewage – to the point where it makes us dry reach and sit in vein. It's frustrating that nothing seems to be getting done about it.

Anyone else experiencing the smell and what have you done to try and mitigate it?

Finance Professional Looking to Help Local Businesses

Hi Geelong business community!

I'm a finance professional currently working in corporate finance looking to help established local businesses (roughly $2M-$20M revenue). Coming from a large corporate background, I'm eager to apply my skills to help growing businesses in our community. I have some spare capacity outside my work hours and I'm looking to get involved.

What I bring to the table:

  • Strong financial analysis background (forecasting, budgeting, business case development)
  • Experience with business valuation
  • Corporate finance experience that could benefit growing businesses
  • Eager to learn and adapt to your specific business needs
  • Happy to roll up my sleeves and tackle whatever challenges you're facing

Not looking to just consult from the sidelines - I want to get involved and deliver real value. Could be anything from helping streamline your financial processes to evaluating new business opportunities or improving cash flow management.

If this sounds useful to your business, drop a comment below or send me a DM. Happy to meet for a coffee to discuss how I might be able to help.

Edit: To be clear - this would be outside my regular work hours, and I'm flexible on arrangement (project basis, ongoing part-time, etc).

Anyone want to get better at meeting new people?

Hi everyone, I'm a local in Geelong looking to help anyone who would like to get better at meeting new people and putting themselves out there socially.

I'm looking to find 2 to 3 people who are interested in free coaching for meeting new people in business or social settings - it's something I'm passionate about and would like to potentially make a career out of in the long run.

I'm 37m, married with a background in small business, sales and marketing for reference.

If you're interested, feel free to send message, or leave a comment. Thanks :)

Why is Geelong so bad?

I was walking downtown the other day, and saw some junkies screaming like kids in a candy shop when they can't get something they want. Not just one, many. Not to mention the eshays everywhere walking around in packs and trying to look tough. It's actually at the point I feel safer in Quetta at night then I do in Geelong by day. I know that all cities have their ups and downs obviously, but I feel like it's at the point where nothing good can come out.

Dad band in Geelong

G’day Geelong subreddit , can anyone point me in the direction of Geelong specific connection outlets for someone wanting to start a dad band (I define it as a group of dads who wanna play music with no intention of becoming “famous”) I don’t have FB so I couldn’t properly search there. Any tips for leads would be awesome. TIA

Roofer for inspection / structural, and solar install

Hi locals, I'm looking for a suitable roofer to conduct an inspection and advice to consider roof-top solar at some point in the future. Anyone had to do this (particularly for solar) and have a recommendation who to reach out to? We're in a Cal. bungalow with metal top for ref.
Cheers,

Seniors wishing tree?

Hi, I’m on the lookout for a local aged care facility or somewhere similar that has a wishing tree for residents who might not have visitors during the holiday period. I know there is the K-Mart wishing tree for children but I’m looking to buy off somebody’s personal list of things that they want/need. I don’t have to meet them or hang out with them or anything if that’s against policy, I’d be happy to drop the gift off to reception for staff to pass on my behalf. I’ve tried Google seniors wishing trees or Christmas appeals and coming up short.

I need to make nerd friends

I relocated from the Eastern suburbs to the Surf Coast, and I don't know anyone. I'm gonna start an IT course at the Gordon early next year. So I need people to hang with and things to do to get to know the area.

The share house I've moved in to has a garage that's been used as a storage space, but I'd love to turn it into something more functional. It has an old, neglected pool table but honestly would be an awesome space for good ol' tabletop RPGs. I'd be neat to meet a group of geeks to set up some idk D&D sessions or something. And do some model making because I have a bunch of craft supplies with no motivation to be creative. Having help to set up the space and get ideas would be great.

I also miss having board game and movie nights. I can watch stuff with roommates but we have very different tastsles lmao they prefer reality TV and crime dramas whereas I like schlocky horror and cheesy 70s SciFi. Just chatting to people who like the same movies and sharing recommendations is something I miss too.

But it would also be awesome to get to know people from the IT world, working or hobby, just to absorb some of their wisdom.

Dairy free/ allergy friendly restaurants and cafes

Does anyone have recommendations for restaurants, cafe or pubs that would cater to a dairy allergy? My mom is coming to visit for two weeks from the US but has a severe dairy allergy.

Years ago I had to be dairy/soy free while trying to nail down my newborns allergies and eating out felt impossible.

Local Musician

Hi I’m a local 20 year old musician that goes under the name ‘Bliss!’. I just recently released my first album ‘Spirals’ it’s a psych-alternative rock album that was produced and recorded all by myself! If you get a chance to take a listen that would be awesome!

I’m inspired by artist such as Tame impala, sticky fingers, psychedelic porn crumpets, jimi Hendrix, king gizzard, Arctic monkeys, ect
