Hello everyone We are a young couple with no kids from Sydney. We are tired of the busy lifestyle and looking forward to living in Geelong or Lara. I can find work in Geelong, i believe, but my partner can drive but probably needs to travel for work (by train) towards Melbourne, like Werribee or Wyndham Vale. We are looking for a laid-back lifestyle, and our budget is about $550k to $615k . Is there anyone who moved here from other cities, and how was your experience? Also, please advise us where we should move: Geelong or Lara.

Young fam, looking for new rental, 3 kids one school age one kindy age, Highton is getting way too expensive for us even in the shit box of a house we are in and Leopold looks ok. Would require us to move the big kids school but if we had to we would do it. Price wise looks pretty ok. What are people’s thoughts on Leopold as a family suburb for a family that like to spend most weekends outdoors and exploring? Why is it so cheap given it’s 10 mins to the beach?

A continuous sound and vibrations have been carrying across from the bay & northern suburbs (probably near North Geelong, North Shore, Norlane) and have kept me awake between 1am & 6am this week.

The noise carries over several kms southwest towards our place near the top or west end of Church Street.

Has anyone else heard it or does anyone know what it is? It’s very irritating and I’m sleep deprived as a result 😡

I’m genuinely curious as this completely boggles my mind - why do people drive 10km under the speed limit down here? It is so consistent! I see it every single day, no matter where I’m going.

I have to say that I’d prefer this over the drivers in Melbourne who I felt, in general, were quite erratic.. but I lived in a smaller city where the slow driving wasn’t as consistent, in fact you were more likely to have someone tailgating.

Edit: Thanks for the education on the repercussions of speeding. Point to where I encouraged speeding or driving erratically! I’m asking why you don’t drive at the limit set for the road, I didn’t ask why you don’t exceed it ✌🏽

This is my second week in Australia. On my second day I went to Melbourne and bought a car from a girl there. So I checked the registration was fine and so was the PPSR. After I bought it, on my way back I realised that there’s something seriously wrong with the car as it got on the freeway it started to wobble to a level that would scare any grown ass adult. Now I got it checked by a mechanic here and he told me that this car has too many problems and the car has come with a dodgy RWC. I contacted the girl she said her brother is a mechanic and bring it to Melbourne and she’ll get it fixed for free. I took it to that mechanic and the suspension was leaking and had to be changed, the tires were out of shaped which got changed and the radiator was leaking that also got changed, at the end I was asked to pay half the bill in any case, being new in town, I chose to avoid any headaches and preferred my peace of mind— paid half the price and brought it back only to realise that the shaking problem still wasn’t solved and thought you just gotta let some things be. Now I woke up this morning to get it transferred to my name only to see that Vicroads has suspended the registration for unpaid fines on this car. I called Vicroads they told me I can’t drive it or else I will have to pay a hefty fine. Took a bus went to their office and they told me the girl could technically not sell this car to me and there’s nothing I or they can do about it and I need to go see Fines Australia. I went to them (fines australia) they say since the car isn’t in my name there nothing they can’t do about it either and that I can put an appeal and they’ll see what they can do about it and its better that I go see the police. Also to mention that the girl has blocked me on FB market place after I confronted her and isn’t responding to any of my messages. Now I went to the police and they say did a check on this girl and her license is suspended and she has fines on her and there’s not much they can do about it and only VicRoads can help me and that they are just avoiding the hassle to get this solved. Now I am stuck in a weird limbo here. What are options that I have?

In South Geelong, just north of the Barwon River, there's a cluster of auto repair and industrial shops.

Wondering if this is the best use of the area. Comparatively, in East Melbourne, developers might opt for river-view luxury estates and restaurants. Why the difference?

Update It must have been pretty quiet, had an uber comfort arrive within a minute of booking at 11pm. $26, not bad
