Price estimates for renovations

Anyone with recent experience in renovations? I’m looking for “ballpark” figures for the following renovations to a 1960’s 3bdr house in Ballarat. With inflation having been on a tear but also rates raising I’m curious what to expect.

Small bathroom inc shower, toilet and sink (wet room compliance) - looking to tile floor and walls. I’ve heard $30k so far, thought it’d be closer to $15-20k 🤷🏼‍♀️

Repainting weatherboard exterior without excessive prep required.

Painting tin roof.

domestic/family violence support

https://domesticviolence.com.au/information/supporting-someone/

this is just one of the sites out there that contains basic and essential information on signs of abuse and violence, what to look out for and how you can help. the signs of abuse can be subtle, many struggle to recognize that they as individuals are being abused, let alone someone else, but it becomes easier when you know what to look out for. this link has been put up because I've noticed that people want to help but might not know where to start.

Source for merguez sausage?

Pretty much as it says in the title.

I’m keen to try a recipe calling for merguez sausage (a North African lamb sausage) but I’ve no idea if it’s available in Ballarat. Certainly not a Colesworth type produce. 😵‍💫

I will buy online, or substitute with chorizo if I have to - but if you know of a local butcher or deli which stocks merguez, I’d much prefer to shop local.

Many thanks!

Upcoming Changes To Waste Disposal

Saw this tonight.

Gotta be honest. Fortnightly rubbish collection sounds like a bad idea to me. Most of my fresh shop has moved to frozen since everything's so expensive. That FOGO bin is going to be empty for ages but the general is going to be full. Wouldn't this be a big issue for people with babies?

https://www.ballarat.vic.gov.au/sortingourwaste

Edit: Ok I personally do not trust the replies on this to be authentically from people in Ballarat who are not the politicians behind this decision. I don't think I've posted here before so was expecting it to be more people from my own community. I hope this information serves to inform anyone who, like me, wasn't consulted or informed of this change. Enjoy the rest of your night.

Tax Professional/Accountant

American refugee seeking a place to help me navigate tax filing as I've been told I have to file taxes in America for my Aussie wage. Any suggestions would be great. Otherwise I'll just try H&R Block.

Bills

Thinking of moving into a one bedroom house or something small. Was wondering what kinda of prices people are paying roughly when it comes to bills for 1 person living alone?

Hidden Food Gem Thread?

I know people have often asked about specific types of food here in the past.

Would a general thread, for good food that might be off the radar, be an idea?
Having moved to near Carpenter Street Carvery recently, I've been very impressed with the quality when I've ordered from them.

There is also the Shop 29 pies and Autumn Cafe bahn mi nearby. Although I think they are pretty well known.

Hit me up with your good takeaway places please.

Carl's Jnr dodgy management

Anyone else had any dodgy dealings with the management of the Creswick Rd store?

In brief, an almost violent incident took place recently leaving young staff in tears, all because no shift manager or supervisor that is authorised to approve a refund was on the site, and had to be approved over the phone. In following up the incident the next day, they denied this took place and claimed management was on the site, and stated the staff would never be left in that position. This contradicts what I saw take place, and what the staff member involved told me directly following the incident.

Should I be reporting this stuff to someone that cares about these kind of corporate shenanigans or just let it go and settle for a personal boycott?

Any place that sells cheap chocolates or lollies?

I'm looking to buy chocolates to give to the children. Planning to buy lots of it.

Is there any place I can buy it cheaper than other places? Or somewhere selling it on a discount. Thank you.
