I think we are in a rather unique situation where we have a fantastic DC and a bad to very bad OC with some very confusing playcalling strategies.
Let’s look at our defense first:
Besides the Washington debacle and the Green Bay game in which we lost 3 fumbles, our defense has kept us within one score on all of our losses and has allowed only 3 td’s in the last 4 games.
This is a bit of cherry-picking but if we take out the GB and WSH games our defense only allows 19 points per game. This would put us at the 7th best scoring defense in the league. We have put hardly any money into this side of the ball, DR has only been in one game, and Baker has been playing at his highest level in years imo.
I think most of us can agree our defense has shattered all expectations. Last season we were the 31st ranked defense in points allowed and now we are the 11th.
Onto offense:
Our offense has just not clicked at all for many games this season. Since the bye week we have played 2 games in which we have scored 1 td and 7 field goals.
WR and pass game issues:
While MHJ has been a diabolical red zone threat (currently tied for 5th most td catches) the rest of our wr production has been pretty damn awful. MHJ our WR1 is currently ranked 39th in receiving yards and Michael Wilson our WR2 who this sub seems to really love for some reason is 91st in receiving yards. Wilson only has 73 more receiving yards than James Conner. YAC (yards after catch)? Astonishingly bad. MHJ has 89 YAC which ranks 176th in the NFL and Michael Wilson has 70 YAC which ranks 209th in the league. To put in perspective how bad that is Rashee rice has played 4 games this season and has had more yards after catch than our wr1 and wr2 COMBINED.
These guys are just not getting open. They catch a tough contested ball and are immediately brought down almost everytime. Either they are not getting schemed open at all or they are poor route runners. As much as it sucks to say I think it is a combination of both. Our pass game consists mostly of checkdowns and passes to McBride who seems to have little issues getting open and getting the ball down the field unlike our receivers.
Playcalling and play design:
Our playcalling especially on the goal line and in the red zone has been suspect at best. It’s like suddenly we get into the red zone and panic. On 3rd and 6 at the 23 we do a run play? We recover a fumble inside the 20 then lose a bunch of yards and miss a field goal. For whatever reason it is easier for us to get a MHJ contested 20 yard toe tap TD than a simple goal line run in.
I think our last play of this game is a perfect example of our offense in a nutshell this season. On 4th and 10 game on the line our best pass catcher McBride is running a route behind the sticks meanwhile our wr 1 and wr2 are running routes 25 yards downfield right next to each other both lock in step with their defenders completely covered. A true offensive disaster class on display.
Thoughts?
Said his route running was lazy and wasn’t aggressive. Also said that Michael Wilson should be the team’s WR1 right now when comparing his play vs MHJ’s.
It’s good to see local media start fairly criticizing him a bit. Petzing, Kyler, Gannon, etc. have been taking heat all year for his up-and-down play while somehow MHJ has skated by.
People want to say that our passing game sucks, but maybe its time to start looking in the mirror and realize that if you’re targeting your WR1 12 times in a game and he can only reel in 5 catches that that is going to kill drives and make your passing game look poor.
I’ve been out of football for 9ish years (ex-STL Rams fan, and fuck Stan Kroenke).
This year I’ve been getting back into the game (more through Fantasy and Madden of all places). I think it’s time to settle down and finally start rooting for a team again.
Most defunct Rams fans went out west for the Chiefs, but I don’t want to feel like a bandwagon fan, and I really don’t care for their team.
I remember my old man telling me stories of the Football Cardinals before moving “back in the day” and figured this was a rightful change.
For now, I’m playing Cinderella and trying this slipper on, and I have a feeling it’s going to fit!
We can kiss the playoffs goodbye if we don't win this game. Our schedule is a doable cake-walk after the Seattle game. We can win out. But it starts this Sunday.
Mos
Kliff Kingsbury (Head Coach + Offensive Coordinator; 2019-2022***)***
- 0 years of NFL coaching experience in any capacity prior to being hired by Cardinals.
Jonathan Gannon (Head Coach; 2023-present)
- 0 years of head coaching experience at any level of football prior to being hired by Cardinals.
Drew Petzing (Offensive Coordinator; 2023-present)
- 0 years of OC experience at any level of football prior to being hired by Cardinals.
This is why we never win at a high level. We hire unqualified coaches, we don't spend money in free agency, and we don't prioritize o-line or defensive personnel on a year to year basis. Our team is run by idiots.
Why can I find Hopkins and Dobbs but not our Lord and savior JC? Fanatics and NFLshop.com both don’t have his jersey. Maybe he is jumping in on the MHJ lawsuit…
This team played good football today, its just penalties (some of them bad calls) and bad decision making by both our coach and our quarterback that made us lose. We are a better team than Seattle and can still win next week. Don't give up yet.
Because that’s where these losers are headed. I’m so fucking sick of this team and these fans that are like ‘oh you’re a hater’ fuck you open your goddam eyes
5 sacks when he was on the field. During his post game interview he stated that he didn’t do enough. This is horrible he played his heart off. Our sorry ass OC didn’t do enough FIRE PETZING!!!
The real problem play was leaving Jefferson WIDE open on 4th and 7. It's 4th down with a chance to beat a top team and you leave their best player completely alone. Absolutely inexcusable. Can't belive people aren't talking about it more.
Defense played their heart out. Meanwhile the offense playcalling was waiving the white flag from the jump.
Gannon has been a great coach but kicking to go up 6 was the worst thing I've seen in my life.
This is the worst loss of the season. The Talent is there and we consistently fail to put it together competently.
Yea Tip fucked up but the dude Is a rookie and has been doing great all year, I have zero hate for him.
I don't know if it's play calling or Marv but he's basically a non factor until we are near the end zone.
It sucks because we absolutely have the ability to be doing so well and it falls apart in the worst ways. Things SHOULD be amazing next season but sucks to know they could have been this season as well.
I'm not trying to hate but it's so damn frustrating losing these close ones in such fashion.
Also shout out to Darius Robinson, he seemed to command attention and allowed for a sack or two. Excited for his growth.
Damn, I know I'm looking at down votes, but overall what a good day. To be able to hang with one of the best in the league like we did is no joke. Clean up a few penalties or get a touchdown instead of a field goal once and it's our game. This team is way over performing on both sides of the ball and will only get better next season.
Did this game just cost us a playoff birth or is there still hope
Ship them back to St Lou

I’m not saying the career will mirror but take these year one stats of another highly regarded WR and practice some patience with MHJ who is on pace to match or beat these year one stats.
Only giving up 3 td. That is some other worldly shit right there.
Went backwards on two plays then called a downhill run into the scrum on 3rd down and 29?!
We have the lowest amount third downs in the nfl after Detroit and Baltimore. Petzing has honestly been amazing.

Let’s go! Jalen Thompson also back active. Getting healthy at the right time.
Inactive list:
OLB Julian Okwara
OL Christian Jones
TE Travis Vokolek
WR Xavier Weaver
DL Khyiris Tonga
A tough loss reminiscent of the loss to Green Bay. The run game stalls and the offense hits the ground, while the defence does their part to keep thing tight but to no avail. These mistakes cannot keep happening if we want playoff football.
This week brings an even tougher opponent in the Vikings who's offense has been hit and miss but their defence has been anything but, being the catalyst for a good chunk of their victories.
Mistakes like Kyler's 4th down pick 6 can and will be punished against such a team who can turn defence into offence. The offense has to be able to move the chains and get points on the board else this playoff push is going to hit rough seas. Another statement game require against tough opposition.
In better news James Conner just signed an extension to remain a Cardinal for the next 2 years. Nothing but a dawg.
Darius Robinson might make his debut this Sunday and assist us get pressure on QBs to shut down drives. Lets hope.

I'm interested in lower level tickets if anyone has any for sale, looking for two seats. I really don't want to pay the ridiculous TM, SG, or any other exchange fees. Prefer that money go to a fans pocket
Kindly let me know.
