hello everyone. a bit ago i saw a picture of starfy before described as a "cool star" and was simultaneously reminded about him and sad cause remembered how little people know about this game, so since no one else would fully get this story I want to share how I met starfy. i was a small child and either my mom or my sister found the legendary starfy sitting on the sidewalk in our neighborhood immediately my sister and I fell in love with the game and would both play it course me being the younger sibling and not very good at the game, I'd mostly watch her play it. and it became on of our ds games we'd play a lot. My sister passed nearly 10 years ago now but I still have starfy and occasionally play it. maybe one of these days I'll finish it but stay to me will always be one of those games that makes me think of my older sister. anyway if you've read this all the way thru, who did you learn about starfy and first play it?

Ogura starts hitting Moe.

“Ack! So…strong…! This guy's way stronger than before…!”

オーグラ (Ogura):「グハハハ！ヨワイヤツラメ！デハ ２ヒキ ナカヨク キエサルガイイ！」

“Gwahaha! What weaklings! Might as well kill two birds with one stone!”

Ogura starts moving backwards, clearly planning something.

キョロスケ (Moe):「..だ..ダメだ！カラダが うごかねえ！ば..ばんじきゅうすか！」

“C-crud! I can’t move! We…we’re done for!”

オーグラ (Ogura):「コレデ オワリダーーーー！」

“END OF THE LINE, WEAKLINGS!!!!!”

Ogura charges at full speed towards Starfy and Moe…!

キョロスケ (Moe):「うわぁぁぁぁぁぁぁ…..」

“Waaaaaaaaaaaah….!”

…や…やられた…のか？

Did…we…get hit?

どこも いたくないぞ！スタフィーも 平気…だよな？いったい どうなって..

But I feel fine! That means Starfy’s okay too, right? What the heck happened…?

“Old Man Lobber!?”

Lobber, with a shimmering, magical blue forcefield around him, holds back Ogura; saving Starfy and Moe.

ロブじいさん (Old Man Lobber):「あぶないトコじゃったのう.. あやうく ジ・エンドに なるところじゃった..」

“That was a close one… You two almost met a grim end…”

オーグラ (Ogura):「ムッ！キ..キサマハ..！」

“Rgh! Y-you’re…!”

Lobber and Ogura’s magic both dissipate.

ロブじいさん (Old Man Lobber):「オーグラよ..わるさも もう いいかげんにするんじゃ..」

“Ogura… It's about time to end your evil ways…”

「また ツボに ふうじこめれたいか！」

“Otherwise, I shall seal you in the Jar once more!"

(Old Man Lobber):「バカモン！いつまでも 人に たよるでない！」

"Don't always rely on others, you fool!"

「これからは おぬしら ワカモノのじだい！」

"This is the time for youngsters like you to take over!"

「おぬしらが もっと しっかりせんで どうするのじゃ！」

“What can you do if you don't put in any hard work?"

“Besides, I'm much too old... Oh, my aching back..."

“It’s time for you to witness my true power! Gwahahahahaha!!!”

Ogura transforms, and uses magic to wave Mama Star in front of her son, taunting him. He then sends Starfy’s mother away, and challenges the prince.

オーグラ (Ogura):「サァ！サイゴノ ショウブダ！イクゾ！スタフィー！グォォォォォォォォォォーーー！」

“This will be the final round! Let’s go, Starfy! Gwooooooooooooh!!!!”

(This text appears even if you lose)

Starfy defeats Ogura after a hard fought battle. Moe then swoops in to place the Jar down, sealing Ogura inside. Starfy’s mother is released from Ogura’s magic, causing Starfy to tear up and jump into her arms.

CONVERSATION 3:

ママスタ (Mama Star):「ああ スタフィー！よくきてくれました！ありがとう！」

“Oh, Starfy! Thank you for coming for me! Thank you!”

「かならず きてくれるとしんじていましたよ」

“I always knew you would.”

「ずいぶんと たのもしく なりましたね.. ママは うれしいです」

“You’ve grown so much… Mama is so proud of you.”

「さぁ パパや みんなが まっていますよ！早く テンカイにかえりましょう」

“Your Papa and everyone back home is waiting for us! Let’s get back to Pufftop.”

“I didn’t expect Ogura to escape on his own…”

“We’ll have to be extra careful with the Jar from now on.”

キョロスケ (Moe):「そーだぞ！..ったく たよりねえ ヤツらだぜ..」

“Obviously! Geez, you guys are useless…”

A cage suddenly descends, capturing Moe as Ruby cackles to herself!

オーグラのこえ (Ogura’s Voice):「グハハハ！マボロシニ ダマサレタナ！ナサケナイヤツメ！グハハハ」 “Gwahaha! You fell for the illusion! What a gullible fool! Gwahaha!”

キョロスケ (Moe):「て..テメェ！フザケンな コラァーーー！」 “D-don’t screw with me you little-!”

「クソッタレー！オラ！スタフィー！オメェも ボサっとみてんなよ！」 “RAAAAAAUGH! Starf’! What’re you just standing around for!?”

「早く ここから出せ！コンチクショーー！」 “Hurry up and get outta here, dangit!”*

「オラ！上に カギあなが あんだろ？それと同じ むようの カギをさがしてこい！」 “You see those keyholes up there!? Go look for keys with the same shape as ‘em!”

「オーグラのヤロー.. まってやがれよ！クソッタレがー」 “Ogura… You better wait for me, you lowlife…!”

「このかりは １００ばいにして かえしてやるぜ！どりゃぁぁぁぁ」 I’ll pay you back 100-fold for this!!! Hyaaaaaah!”

クリア (Stage Clear!): たからばこの中には グッズ 『ビキニ』が入っていたよ！ Inside the chest there was…a Bikini!

オーグラの いたずらは どんどん ひどくなっていきます.. いっこくもはやく こらしめに 行こう！ Ogura’s misdeeds are getting worse and worse! Let’s hurry up and teach him a lesson!

TN:

1. The phrase used here is たとえ火の中水の中 (Tatoe Hi no Naka Mizu no Naka), which literally means through fire and water, but is another way of saying “through hell of high water” (for those who don’t know, it basically just means to go to lengths for something). I just wanted Moe to sound extra here lol.

2. Moe is not happy. Basically this line and the last few are Moe saying, and I quote ahem: “Y-you bastard! Don’t screw/fuck with me! This is BULLSHIT! Hey, Starf’, what’re you just standing around for!? Hurry up and get outta here, dammit!”

オーグラのこえ (Ogura’s Voice):「グハハハ！カカッタナー！ソレ！コウシテヤルー！」 “Gwahaha! I’ve got you now! Take this!!!”

キョロスケ (Moe):「ぐわっ.. なんだ この ヘンなにおいは..ゴホゴホ やめろー！オーグラー！」 “Gwuh- What’s this weird smell- cough cough! St-stop, Oguraaaa!!!”

オーグラのこえ (Ogura’s Voice):「グハハハ！ザマーミロ！セイゼイ モガキクルシムガイイ グハハハハ！」 “Gwahaha! Serves you right! Now write in utmost agony! Gwahahaha!”

キョロスケ (Moe):「ク..クソ..あのヤロー..へンなしかけ..なんか..つくりやがっ..て..」 “Sh-shoot… That coward… making a trap like this…!”

「だ..ダメだ.. 気が とおく な..る..」 “I-It’s no use… I feel… faint…”

As Starfy and Moe lie on the ground unconscious, a red figure, cane in hand, walks into the scene. (Picture)

？？？？？？:「ムッ！こりゃいかん！」 “No, I was too late!”

Then…Starfy and Moe wake up.

キョロスケ (Moe):「うーん..うーん..」 “…U-Ugh…”

「クソ..ひでぇめに あったぜ..ゴホゴホ..」 “That was…awful…cough cough”

「..なんだったんだ？今のヘンなにおいは…」 “But what happened…? That weird smell’s gone…”

「ん？ちょいまちだ！なんか てがみが おちてるんぞ！..えー なになに？」 “Wait a sec, there’s a letter on the ground! Hmm… let’s see here…”

てがみ (Letter) 「しんぱいになって きてみれば」 “I got worried about you two, so I came up here…”

「おぬしら ワシに たすけられているようでは まだまだじゃのう..ホッホッホ..」 “You two aren’t ready for what’s ahead if I need to save you! Hohoho!”

「ヘンな しかけは ワシに 止めてやったわい」 “I shut off that strange trap.”

「そこに パタパタと むようがかわる みょうな ブロックが あるじゃろ？」 “Do you see that block that changes patterns over there?”

「それを ぜんぶ トビラの上のブロックと 同じ むようにすれば しかけは かいじょできるぞい」 “The trap will deactivate if every block has the same pattern as the one above the door.”

「むようがかわる ブロックは スピンアタックで 止めるんじゃ」 “When you see the pattern you need, Star Spin into the block to stop it from changing its pattern.”

「モタモタしとると しかけのガスで ダメージをくらってしまうからのう..」 “If you take too long, the gas from that trap’ll cause you to take damage…”

「ムリせず あぶなくなったら いったん へやを 出るんじゃ！わかったな？」 “Don’t be reckless! Get out of the room if it gets too dangerous, understand?”

「では ワシは コシが いたいから もう行くわい..」 “Well, my back’s acting up, so I should be going…”

「あまり この おいぼれを しんぱいさせるんではないぞ？早く いちにんまえに なるんじゃ！ホッホッホ…」 “But don’t make this old coot worry, you hear? Soon, you two’ll be on your own! Hohoho!”

キョロスケ (Moe):「..って なんだ？この エラソーな てがみは..ったく..」 “Tch, what’s with this letter? Soundin’ all high and mighty…”

「しかし この くちょう.. あの じいさんに そっくりだな..」 “But this tone…it’s just like how that geezer talks…”

「まあいいや..とりあえず この先 このタイプのしかけに ちゅういしろよ！」 “Eh, I’m sure it’s nothin’. Anyways, be careful of this trap goin’ forwards!”

キョロスケ (Moe):「へやにある むようがかわる ブロックを ぜんぶ スピンアタックで止めて..」 “In rooms with the blocks that change patterns, you need to Star Spin into ‘em to stop em’…”

「トビラの上にある ブロックの むようと 同じむようにするんだ！」 “And make sure that they match the pattern of the block above the door!”

「すばやくやるんだぞ！じゃないと ガスで ダメージ もらっちまうからな」 “But you gotta be quick! Take too long, and the gas’s gonna do some damage to you!”

「あぶなくなったら いったんへやの外に出ろ！わかったな！」 “If it gets too risky, get outta there ASAP, got it!?”

CONVERSATION 2:

キョロスケ (Moe):「そういや オメェ 知ってっか？」 “By the way, didja know?”

「1ブロックぶんの すきまなら 『だっっしゅ』するだけで かけぬけられるんだぜ！」 “You can ‘Dash’ over those blocks with the little spaces in ‘em!”

「いちいち セコセコとんで行く… なんて　ダセーことするなよ？へへっ」 “Jumpin’ on every block one by one… Heh, how lame is that?”

クリア (Stage Clear!): たからばこの中には グッズ 『サンダル』が入っていたよ！ Inside the chest there were…a pair of Sandals!

あぶないところを たすけてくれた ナゾのじんぶつ.. どうやら スタフィーたちの知りあい..? Who was that mysterious person who saved Starfy and Moe from that dangerous room? Is it someone they know…?

オーグラじょうの しかけも きょうりょくに なってきているけど オーグラは すぐそこなので がんばって すすみましょう！ The traps here are getting more dangerous, but Ogura’s right around the corner! Let’s keep pushing forward!
