I’m looking for a standard Hanafuda deck (meant for playing, not display) with standard size, standard art, and solid black backs. I’d like to keep the cost low. What brand should I buy and from where?
Hello!
I am wanting to know if anyone has info on the Nintendo Museum exclusive Hanafuda deck.
Can you ONLY get it by winning a ticket to the museum? Or can you just buy it without needing the lottery ticket?
Do we know if the exclusive decks are time-limited?
Thanks
I have a very complete set. It includes the package wrapper and manufacturer's info card. As I recall it was gifted to my parents by a Japanese and American couple they played cards with. This would have been around 1959 +/- 18 months. Any information is welcome.
I believe that this post...
...is asking about the same card deck.
Thinking (dreaming) lately of designing a Taylor Swift themed deck!! <3 If you’ve done your own art, share! I wanna see!
I wanted a 4-player deck that isn't Junior (I can't consistently figure out what the images are supposed to be on their cards - weird graphic design choices, man) so I made my own! It has been a LONG time since I started this project holy cow
So it has 56 cards total (14x4) with 2 extra months - they're obv inspired by Matsui Tengudo. The extra months are 13 - bamboo and 14 - lotus.
...
Here's how I made them for those who want to know:
Each design was free-hand drawn onto paper with tarot card-size template outlines (just some blown up tarot ratio rectangles on reg printer paper), scanned, edited in Photoshop to get the transparent background lineart, colored in illustrator, then put together to print in illustrator as well.
To print, the backs are placed opposite of the fronts along a central longwise line and 180 degrees rotated. (Not shown: I'm gonna redo my card backs since I don't like the placement of my typography)
I then printed the prepared card images with a canon pro-10 out on 11x17 matte 50lb photo magazine paper so the backs fold to the fronts along a seam along that central longwise line, glued the hotdog fold together, cut the cards out with a guillotine paper cutter so that they are all mostly the same size, then clipped the corners with a corner rounder (I cut out the bamboo and Paulownia months wrong so I'm going to have to redo those)
I don't like the overall thickness of these cards for playing since they are pretty wimpy feeling, but they are good for a sample, I think!
Please say nice things or constructive criticism only! This is my first deck of cards I've made! Plus I feel bad when people are mean =((((
Before I go and make/print my own, I'm essentially looking for something like this (pdf) - standard hachi-hachi with added symbology for suit/type/score. My goal was to find/create something that has symbols more as reminders - not as large focal points (e.g. tucking a Bright icon in the bottom right)
Of the ones already out there, they all seem to be slightly off this criteria
Thanks for the help!
Anyone looking for this deck, I happened across it in the Shibuya Mega Donki.
Found these at a local charity shop in a wooden box that was not original. A google lens search led me here. I count 90 cards in total. Curious about what I have here (is it more than one set?) age and any other information you are willing to share. Looking forward to learning about this game with my 8 year old.
Hi everyone! I’m interested in making my own deck for print, but wanted to know if there was an available template online? I’ve searched the sub and couldn’t find anything that had working links.
Thank you!
Beautiful and pretty funny art. I wish it was a real set lol.
In my opinion, once you know the combos and basic rules the game is almost entirely luck based, but I want to see what other people think about it
Hi,
Has anybody seen/got these?
A new(?) deck from Oishi Tengudo, one of the big 3 remaining Hanafuda makers. It's not mentioned on their website, but that doesn't seem to have been updated in a couple of years.
I’m a basic bitch who first saw hanafuda while watching an episode of game grumps during lockdown. I’d like to get a decent set. I easily saw some on Amazon for $10. Is it worth it? Id like a nice set to be aesthetically pleasing and engaging to be able to teach my significant others and family something they never heard of
Hey everyone! I’m an artist (living in Japan) who creates luxury art playing cards. I’m working on a project to create playing cards that integrate hanafuda.
I’m looking for printers in Japan that print custom hanafuda. I speak conversational Japanese, but if they speak English it would help. Anyone have any ideas?
I just spotted something exciting in the images from the gift shop at the new Nintendo Museum in Kyoto. Alongside the standard Nintendo hanafuda decks, there’s a brand new and exclusive deck that caught my eye. The cards feature patterns that seem to be coated in (faux) gold. I'm curious if there is more information available. The price of 9900 JPY = 69 USD = 62 EUR is a lot more than the regular decks.
I'm completely new to the Hanafuda game. I've found this Nintendo deck in a thrift shop in Italy, seems to be from the 80s but I have found no info on the deck itself nor the shirafuda (blank) card. It contains 49 cards and in the inside of the blue box there is written "PAT". Can anyone help me? Thanks! :)
The multiplayer base isn't terribly active, but the number 3 hanafuda champion hosts lobbies there sometimes! Look for the username 'Bushi'. Anyways, give it a try! Looking forward to online matches with ya'll (:
Hello! So lately I've been thinking about trying to make an American hanafuda deck. And by that I mean like your standard hanafuda deck, but reimagined with flowers that are native or endemic to America.
A few I can think of off the top of my head are stargazer lily, pokeweed, and honeysuckle.
Anyone got any suggestions for others I should go with?
EDIT: I've decided to limit my search to flowers in Indiana, my home state.
