/r/Texas Rules:
1. Be Friendly: Personal attacks on your fellow Reddit users are not allowed, this includes both direct insults and general aggressiveness. In addition, hate speech, threats (regardless of intent), and calls to violence, will also be removed. Remember the human and follow reddiquette.
Criticism and jokes at the expense of politicians, pundits, and other public figures have been and always will be allowed, and do not constitute a violation of the rule.
2. Use Your Words: Posts and Comments consisting of one word or just an emoji are highly discouraged as we seek to foster debate and conversation. As such they are subject to removal.
3. This is /r/texas: Links and posts must be directly about Texas, not regional/national/worldwide things that happen to involve Texas.
4. No Personal Information: Doxxing and posting personal information, such as names, phone numbers, links to social networking sites, is strictly prohibited. Some social network info will be exempted on a case by case basis.
5. No Spam: If most of your posts and comments are to your own projects, then you're taking advantage of our community and spamming. Please make sure you submit other things and participate on other people's posts. If you think your post might be considered spam, message the mods for approval first. There are no petitions allowed on the sub either.
6. No Reposting: Reposts will be removed, please search before you post. If you want to post another view of the same story, we ask that you contribute it to the comments of the original post. If there is a megathread about a popular story, please add your submission there. Should the original post be removed by a mod then a subsequent repost is not considered a violation of this rule.
7. Political Discourse: Politics are fine but state your case, explain why you hold the positions that you do and debate with civility. Posts and comments meant solely to troll or enrage people, and those that are little more than campaign ads or slogans do nothing to contribute to a healthy debate and will therefore be removed. Petitions will also be removed. AMA's by Political figures are exempt from this rule.
8. No Excessive Caps: No caps lock in titles other than acronyms or initials. Comments and titles with a large percentage of all caps, are considered 'shouting' as well as annoying and will be removed.
9. News Articles: News articles are fine, but must be no older than one month. Your post title must match the article title. You are free to editorialize in a separate comment. Articles posted from biased or secondary sources will be reviewed and accepted/removed upon moderator discretion. Sites with hard leaning bias will be removed immediately. Additionally please use actual articles and not Tweets. Examples of trusted sources: Reuters, AP, NPR, NBC, ABC, CBS, BBC.
10. No Confrontational User Pings: Use username pings (e.g. /u/username in a comment) sparingly and in a non-confrontational manner. If you're considering pinging someone to get their attention on something that they might be interested in, that's fine. If you're considering pinging someone to prove a point or continue debate, that's not ok. Excessive username pings can be considered to be harassment and may be reported to the Reddit admins.
11. No Disparagement of an Individual's Disabilities: While you're free to argue against, debate, criticize, etc. the policies, ideas, politics, and character of any politician, please do not make jokes about anyone's disability. All such "jokes" will be removed.
12. No Solicitations: Selling or looking for a product, housing, a service or a job? Give your local subreddit a try. There may even be a specific one like r/austinclassifieds or r/houstonclassifieds.
13. Moving to Texas / Where to Live / Job Market questions - check the weekly thread pinned to the top of this subreddit (hint, sort by "hot")
14. Drivers License, ID, Car Title or Registration questions - check the Megathread and post there if it's not answered. Plenty of resources there.
Otherwise try your local craigslist or apartments.com because this ain't that.
GoFundMe and similar are also not allowed except in extremely rare circumstances and require mod approval.
Links and comments that violate the rules will be removed. Repeat or severe offenders will be banned. This is an actively moderated subreddit. Calls will be made at the moderator's discretion.

Hey guys, I'm planning on buying a car from a dealership in California and driving it back to Texas. Wondering what the process is for picking up the car, do I have to get it registered in California and pay sales tax to drive it off the lot? Then do I get it registered in Texas and pay tax again? Do I get the plates and insurance for the trip in California?
Never been through the car buying process myself, even in Texas. Appreciate any advice or parts of the process that I missed ✌️
Hi everyone! My family and I (we’re from Brazil!) are heading to Texas on February 25th and staying for 12 days. We’re renting a car and plan to explore Austin, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Fort Worth.
We’re looking for must-see attractions, hidden gems, great food spots, or any unique experiences you’d recommend in these cities (or along the way). Also, are there any concerts, live shows, sporting events, or shooting range experiences you’d suggest during this period?
It’s our first time in Texas, so any tips for road tripping, cultural highlights, or unique activities would be amazing.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions!
Long story short, my license is suspended to do state inspections. Not a huge deal as an auto tech but very inconvenient.
Back story, a week before new year I got a notice on the state machine to renew my license. Well, their system has a nation wide outage. So I called, tried to log on, no avail for a week. Finally got someone human on the phone and they said not to worry, just keep trying g to log on and try calling a tech support.
Tech support had a recorded message saying that they aren’t taking calls and they’re trying to get the system online.
Fast forward to the new year, still calling. Got a rep on the phone, who said that now since I’ve lapsed, I need to go through their whole training program again.
This is the story now for 10,000’s of techs across the DPS database. So, I explain to the rep what happened and that their system caused this, and she smugly and argumentatively said it was my fault for not renewing g sooner.
K, so now waiting on an email for a week now to start over, same story. Called and explained the deal, super argumentative and defensive about the deal. Mind you, I’m doing super customer service voice like a door greeter …I know how this works.
Not really much but a rant or venting, but without malice and objectively, I really hope soon that this whole system gets wiped in favor of AI. Normally I’d object to killing jobs , but when these ABC agencies run their programs like a defunct 3rd world country , it warrants ending their gravy train.
If would be one thing if they acknowledge that it sucks and tell me it’s just how it is, but I’d imagine they’ve been directed to respond like this. It’s laughable that so many stooges in Texas make fun of the West Coast and its government, when Texas is run like a good ol boy Tote-The-Note lot that knowingly sells trash cars and gets trashy about it if you point out their racket.
Couldn’t Dan Patrick face a defamation suit after claiming smokeshops target kids? The claim is so outlandish and pure bullshit. I hope cannabis advocate groups sue tf out of him for that as well if they aren’t already. This is a blatant lie and he’s clearly trying to tarnish their image
We’ve been attracting transplants for centuries. But recent policies are pushing some Texans into exile.

Hello, I am taking my partner on a holiday for his birthday in May.
We are from London and spending the weekend in New York, then flying on to Austin for a 7/8 days. We were thinking to add a stop before or after - either near Austin for a couple of nights, or somewhere else in Texas (happy to get another flight).
We love music, dive bars, restaurants, diners and very keen to see Texan culture (the more different to UK the better).
Would you recommend visiting San Antonio? Is there a lot to do there? Or would it be worth staying in a small town like Bandera / Fredericksburg? It's worth pointing out that we won't have a car.
Any advice or tips would be super appreciated. :-)
