So I'm not from here but I love the dancing that goes on here. Now, I was taught that a 2 step was, two steps forward one step back. I'm trying to ADD to this but when I research the 2 step I get videos that show 2 steps quick and 2 steps slow. Anyone I've danced with here have done what I'm used to (see above). Do you guys have any videos of the "two step" that I'm used to? Or is there a different name than 2 step that I'm not getting?

As we all let our food settle and blood sugar levels mellow. I want to take a moment and ask if we all gave thanks to a special someone in our local communities. As I am fairly new to the area I haven’t heard or met anyone who helps with community outreach. So I turn to our local subreddit to find some of those folks. My FIL lives in Abilene is recently widowed and interested in dating but is having trouble with all of the online scams. I have read that certain sites can be better in different areas and of course getting to an in person meetup quickly is much better than chatting online. Does anyone have an idea of which sites are a bit better in the Abilene area? Or are there any physical locations/groups that are good for dating for ages 50+?

I live in Tucson and my sister Rhonna lives in Abilene. My Mom is 98 and living in assisted care in Abilene,and my sister also looks after her.Lately Rhonna has had to take my mom from the assisted living place to the hospital and back,and has thrown her back out in the process of moving her.Is there any place she can call to get someone to help with this? Not sure if anything is out there. Any ideas appreciated 🙂

Howdy local Abileneians, I hear from a lot of citizens of this community that Abilene is not a great place to live. I’ve been here for about 4 months now and while it’s not the most exciting it’s pretty laid back. While I haven’t made a ton of friends the few I have made are great people. That being said I’m looking for those cool spots that are hidden treasures. Best spots to eat , cool areas to do urban exploration, fun historical spots, those cool places the teenagers hang out at. Anything like that I’d love to hear about.

I heard Texas is not a friendly state for children with autism and other disabilities. Are the schools in Abilene well funded for Special Education? If so, what are the best schools districts? Looking for recommendations about Elementary and Middle schools. Thanks in advance.

I wanted to give you some quick updates regarding the Texit survey I posted here last month. 

1. Overall, the survey was a success! My colleagues and I are still working through the data right now, but we did reach sample size goal before the election. Thank you very much to the moderators and the community for supporting this work. I really appreciate y’all! 

2. Having said that, I plan to post the initial findings of the study on all subreddits who contributed at the beginning of December (probably around 12/6) for y’all to review and ask me questions. 

3. In the meantime, I thought it would be interesting to see how attitudes about Texit have changed since the presidential election. So, I am collecting data for a second study to assess this question. Anyone is welcome to take it, even if you already took the first survey:

Any producers in abilene for modern rap? I make music and honestly im just tired of mixing my own music. I want someone I can work with and can grow with and can see my vision. It's not abilene rap for sure but I know any producer would love to work with me. Any help at all id appreciate

I (F37) currently live in OKC and met someone from Abilene that I’ve been talking with (somewhat dating) and the subject of where each of us would be willing to live or move to came up due to distance. My lease will be up in July 2025 from my current apartment that I’m not happy with for a few reasons so I was planning on moving (wasn’t sure where, this was a plan prior to meeting this guy). He mentioned that he never wants to move from Abilene, At first he thought maybe but decided now he wants to stay there, so if things are to continue I’d have to be willing to relocate there eventually.

At first I felt optimistic about a change of scenery, but then on various forums I read some things that concerned me and would like some perspective.

My concerns are as follows:

1. I’m not religious, I have no desire to go to church though I was raised in a Christian home. My family just didn’t go to church every week. I also have some trauma related to religion. I’m worried if I would be like an outcast for not going to church.

2. Don’t own a car, I have to use uber to get anywhere. Currently I work from home so it isn’t a big deal, but I’m not sure what opportunities there are there for that or how far I could expect a job to be from home.

3. Safety, I’ve seen mixed reviews of safety. I realize that it can look skewed due to lower population if you look at percentages, but in general, if it’s like 6pm on a Saturday and I’m walking downtown will I be ok? I’ve been to places like Chicago and LA and was fine but I wanted to get a feel for what it’s like.

Other notes:

1. 1 goal that I have is to someday design and build my own home. How feasible is that there?

2. Eventually I am considering starting a business and am wondering if the city is friendly towards new business.

3. Is it easy to make friends there?

4. My interest are zoos, aquariums, museums, art galleries, bowling, board games, video games, movies and restaurants.

5. I’m hoping to start a family within the next couple years. How is healthcare?

Does anyone have an FE (For computer and electrical engineering) exam prep book/materials or know where I can get some in Abilene?

What are some restaurants specials here in town? For example with blue sky burgers kids eat for a dollar on Tuesdays, at dennys kids eat free also on Tuesdays 4-10pm :)

I’m looking for a competent, aggressive family law attorney here in Abilene that won’t ghost me.

I’ve reviewed a few of the big ones however it seems the biggest flaws people complain about is the attorney rarely answers emails or calls basically ghosting the client. Another huge problem I’ve noticed with reviews clients bringing proof and testimony of abuse but the attorney doesn’t think it’s worthy of a hearing. Saying the judge wouldn’t agree and that’s not how we see things.
