Any Good Places that play Japanese City pop/funk or have nights for it?

I don't really care for American disco or Jazz funk. I'm mostly looking for a place that plays stuff like Anri or Junko. Any help would be appreciated. I'm local so I know of a good number of venues, clubs and bars. I'm just trying to find a new scene that plays to that taste.

ISO Gingerbread house decoration from the Nutcracker Market

My sister fell in love with a light up gingerbread house decoration that had sprinkles on the roof. I convinced her to walk around and think about it before buying and we ended up leaving without it. I am wondering if anyone knows the vendor or where I can find this item. I think they were the only ones selling light up gingerbread house decor. Any help is welcome and appreciated!!

How do I ride the houston metro?

Recently ive found myself in a not so great situation, and I need to start taking the bus. Only problem is, I dont know how at all. Say I want to get to stop 30 and the closest stop to me is stop 20, and I need to get to stop 30 at X time. What exactly does that process look like? Do I just show up at stop 20 at the scheduled time and eventually the bus will get to stop 30? If so, how do I know at which specific time the bus will get to stop 30?

Need help identifying where this photo was taken!

Photo of fellow Houstonian Shelley Duvall behind the scenes of her first movie, Brewster McCloud (1970), filmed in Houston. Does anyone know where this photo with the statue was specifically taken? Hermann Park? The zoo?

    Sienna HEB Kinda Sucks

Just wanted to know why the Sienna HEB is always out of stock in lots of staple produce and if they do have stock a lot of the times it is poor quality and not fresh. Like mold growing all over the bell peppers. Is this happening to many different HEBs and other grocery stores? Am I just shopping at the wrong location? Can’t tell. Thanks.

Romantic Christmas Getaway: Houston vs. Dallas vs. Austin – Need Recommendations!

I'm planning a romantic Christmas getaway and considering Houston as a potential destination (I live in New Jersey). I don’t know much about the city, so I was wondering: what Christmas-themed events or attractions is Houston known for, and what are some standout restaurants that would make for a memorable experience? I'm also weighing other options like Dallas and Austin, so if anyone has insights or comparisons between these cities for a festive and romantic trip, I'd love to hear them

St John's school group testing for Class One admission

    Hey all,

We have applied to St John's school for admission to first grade for our daughter. There is a group testing scheduled for next week for 2 hours. We are a "standard" applicant (no legacy/siblings), so appreciate any advice from parents who have gone through this process. Thank you!

    Houston Coffee Shop Gift Card

    Hey Houston,

Never had the chance to go to you.

I want to make a gift of a gift card for a local Houston Coffee shop. This is a work gift, and not really appropriate for me to ask them what part of Houston they live in.

What would be a good call that isn't Starbucks? Perhaps a coffee shop that has a few different locations?

Also, I'd be sending it online, so would have to be that possibility.

    Thanks in advance.

REPORT: Marine Rescue Units and HPD currently recovering body found in Buffalo Bayou (Downtown). Again.

Just received a Citizen alert about 12 mins ago regarding a body recovery operation in Buffalo Bayou. Marine rescue units and HPD are on the scene now.

This is eerily similar to an incident. I posted about ~6 months ago, where two bodies were recovered in the exact same spot (down from the 3-sided wedge formed by Louisiana/Smith/Congress). I can see the operation unfolding in real time from my balcony.

Why does Houston still have horse-mounted police???

Today I see not one, not two, but FIVE cops "patrolling" the Galleria on horseback! I've also seen them Downtown and in the Memorial Area. Just walking down the sidewalk....

Is there any strategic or tactical reason for this?

Assuming no... the city is basically BROKE. The police force is understaffed. And we are paying for.... STABLES? Horse up-keep? What the hell??? I get having cops on bikes, in cars, and even on foot (occasionally) but on horses (for glamour/PR purposes only) makes ZERO sense to me in a city with serious budget issues!!!

    Am I missing something?

Anyone work for NRG or Centerpoint?

We are tenants in an older building that has two meters, problem is the second meter isn't attached to any of the addresses for the building. I need the ESI ID to get it attached to our account, but without a usable address - all the online searches are useless.

Anyone out there work at NRG or Centerpoint who can help me out? I've called both and the wait time is so long I have to hang up.

Any good East African restaurants in the area?

I ate at an incredible East African restaurant (Baobab Fare) in Detroit a few weeks ago and was curious if we had anything similar in Houston? The owners of the restaurant are originally from Burundi.

Me and my partner's ONLY day off together is mondays and all the damn restaurants are closed!!!! Dona letis, burger chan, and jupiters have all been on our list for so long but we never get to go even when we have the money. Its fucking infuriating. (Sorry for the rant, this has really been getting on my nerves lately cause we FINALLY have money for date night after YEARS of financial hardship, but everyone collectively decided to close on Mondays over the last few years)

    Crokinole Championship in Houston

Fun fact: Houston has its very own club dedicated to an incredibly niche Canadian Board game called Crokinole. And, they just hosted their first tournament included in the National Crokinole Association tour (yes, it's a real thing, crazy right). This is the finals match from the tournament, if you want to learn more about the unique game that Houston has a club dedicated to check that or the club page out.
