Hey looking for recommendations on the best grocery store for pre package style food. Lasagnas, pastas, salads, sandwiches. I was spoil in the last smaller city I was in.
Any suggestions?
I know ppl have asked who’s hiring but we always get suggestions on places that others think should be hiring but once I apply I get no response. So for all my working buddies if you 100% know you work place is hiring please drop the info below and any requirements you must have for them. Thanks
Hello everyone!
I’m a German student starting a graduate program in Electrical Engineering at Lamar University in Spring 2025. As this will be my first time attending college in the U.S., I’m a bit nervous about a few things and would love to hear about your experiences.
First, my letter of acceptance includes a graduate tuition waiver, which should allow me to pay the resident tuition rate instead of the non-resident rate. However, I haven’t seen this award reflected in my scholarship portal, nor has it been applied to my first bill. When I contacted my department, they mentioned that awards typically don’t appear until 10 days before the first day of classes. Is that accurate? Has anyone else experienced this? I’m really counting on this award, as I’m funding my education independently.
Secondly, I’ve applied for housing, but I’m now waiting for a room assignment. I’ve been told that assignments start in the first week of January, which seems quite late. I’ll be arriving in Beaumont on January 6th and am concerned that my room might not be ready by then. Does anyone have experience with this? What’s usually the earliest move-in date? Housing hasn’t responded to my email yet, so I’m unsure how many days I’ll need to book a hotel.
I’d really appreciate any advice or insight to help ease my worries.
Thanks so much!

Hey, y’all! I’m hosting a spoken word poet’s show next month in downtown Beaumont. Levi the Poet is a poet from Albuquerque, NM and has been working as an independent artist for about 15 years. He is currently on tour for the 10th anniversary of his album “Correspondence (a fiction)” and one of his stops will be right here in Beaumont, TX! If you’re into poetry, storytelling, performance art, or spoken word, or if you know anyone that is, this is the show to go to. All information is in the flyer and all ticket sales go directly to the artist and EventBrite (ticket sales host), so I want to emphasize vehemently that none of it goes to me as the promoter. This is an all ages show with some spiritual themes, and the poetry he is telling tells the story of a grand adventure/love story inspired by old American literature and Wes Anderson films. It’ll be a fun night, and some light refreshments will be available as well, so come have a cozy night full of inspirational, beautiful poetry!
(If this goes against any rules, please let me know. I just wanted to make sure the word got out.)
Does anyone know where they serve authentic poutine?
Did anyone else witness the drive by shooting on Park North Drive last night at 1:30 am?
Greetings y’all!
I wanted to give you some quick updates regarding the Texit survey I posted here last month.

I’ve seen some riding on the side streets. Is there an area we can rip without getting shot or trespassing.
I just moved here from South Florida and I’m just wondering how the dating scene is over here?
Thinking of starting up an in person group of dnd 5e or pathfinder 2 group. Would prefer 4-5 people. I'm 43, a veteran, single dog dad. My language is salty. I can host or we can go somewhere else (preferably without cats, as I'm allergic) I can be the DM or a player. I have a world set up already, so if you want a quick game...
I'm Role play heavy, I like people to get into their characters. Min maxing pisses me off. I have social anxiety so I'll be shy for a while while I get to know people. I'm not going to set an age limit other than adult, I don't care who you're in love with IRL, I would prefer to keep the table away from current political or religious discussion as that's a great way to cause fights.
I'll set up a discord for it and you can dm me for an invite if you're interested or want to get to know me.
I've been a SAHM for 10+ years and have intermittent work history during that time, some volunteer work to add to that. I'm really looking for an office job but since I'm not getting any interviews for that work, I'd take seasonal retail. Just something recent on my resumé and a real reference. I would do child care but it's so disgustingly underpaid, I haven't even applied. Any suggestions for me?
Update:
I gained access to my transcripts! I have not had access for so many years I had forgotten the courses I had taken and the grades I had made. I also forgot that I had a severe depression from 2009 to 2010 and I failed a bunch of courses. So that sucks but I'm applying with the district to sub and hopefully that gives me some credibilty going forward. Maybe I can get a more stable job by the summer and eventually finish my degree! It's exciting but the prospect feels insurmountable because of the amount I already owe.
I am having to move to the Beaumont area for work. Job will be between Vidor and Mauriceville area. Where should I be looking in terms of house/apartments? I am an Asian female in case that plays any factor.
I understand west Beaumont is the relatively safe area but any other recommendations? How is Pinehurst or the Orange area? I want to consider Nederland but I'm scared the commute might be too far.
Also is the Wiess Park area a safe place to skate at night or should I be concerned to be in that area after dark?
Thank you!
Anyone know why power is out in Vidor? Heard like a loud bang then lost power.
