I asked BF to get colonoscopy, he has stage 4 colon cancer. He proposed. I said yes. Need things to do myself to gain support group. Ideas? Plano/richardson areas? He has 1-5 years.

As title said. For better or for worse right? I said those words once and meant them but my ex husband left and ruined my life and our kids lives. I say it, I mean it. So guys. I am devastated beyond words, we found out a month ago and our worlds fell apart. He proposed, we cried, got therapists, cried again, he moved in with his daughter and we just decided fuck cancer. Fuck it. But I desperately need suggestion for activity for me to do on Monday or Tuesday / Plano / Dallas / Richardson is ok so I can retain some sanity and support system. It’s terminal so he has 1-5 years. This type of cancer he will 100% fie from. One day I will wake up and he will be gone. I will be alone again and devastated and I don’t have a family at all besides my 4 year old twins. Help with suggestions of what to do because I don’t know anymore what there is to do or what I can do to retain that or even form something I can hold on to WHEN not if he dies. I have cried every day on my way to work and back and have gotten on depression and anxiety meds for now but that’s a different issue. So if you read this far or even have had a spouse or partner pass away please suggest anything. I’m lost. Ty

Shops that sell local artwork?

Hello! I’m a clay artist (also paint small canvas). You know how when you govintonsomecoffee shops or stores they have a section selling stuff from local artists/vendors?

Where can I find those places to buy and sell locally? Obviously chain retail won't do it but are there any stores of coffee shops you could recommend that do? Any I could try reaching out to to see? All of Dallas is fine. Plano, frisco , garland, & Richardson preferred though.

Thank you all in advance :)

Apps or websites to search for services with pricing details?

Which prominent websites or apps are available that list services in and around the DFW area with pricing information.

Services could be cleaning, house keeping, car repair or lawn mowing, etc.

Google has several however I'm looking for a comprehensive and an up to date portal.

Christmas at the Arboretum

We travel every year the week before Christmas for a family vacation, this year we chose Dallas, we have been many times but not around the holidays. We wanted to see Dallas all lit up in beautiful Christmas lights and most of the city delivered but we are shocked by the lack of anything at the arboretum but white Christmas lights, we have traveled to may different arboretums and botanical gardens around the world as it is one of our favorite stops in major cities, and we have been to many around Christmas time where they literally throw up Christmas on their gardens with thousands of multi color light, large elaborate displays of Christmas trees and figures, lights of all colors strung through the trees, laser projection on historic buildings, lights to music, fountains to music, interactive light displays that mimic your heart beat when you touch a certain sensor. I don’t know if the budget fell short this year or the management is old and needs a change but for $30 a person your Christmas at the Arboretum was terrible, all white lights, 12 creepy gazebos that half of them didn’t work, a beautiful Christmas village, but no Santa, no elves, fake shops with nothing in them, but painted walls. There is one small section in the middle where they were about 10 trees wrapped in colored lights and that was it and then there was the Della Robbia display which was beautiful but this isn’t what the kids want and the DeGolyer house isn’t even open every night to see it. I don’t know if this is a money grab by the Arboretum or this just shows how out of touch the management is with reality. But what it does show is a city of your size deserves better, the people of Dallas would be shocked by the displays in other cities, such as St. Louis, Kansas City, Chicago or Denver, millions of multicolored lights, great interactive displays, state of the art projection mapping and the simplest of all, music there was no music nothing it was awful and as a city like Dallas you should be embarrassed by what little actual lack of an actual Christmas spirit, if you are thinking about going, don’t, there are better Christmas displays in Highland Park, Don’t get me wrong the Dallas arboretum and the DeGolyer House this is one of the best we have been to in the world and we love it and the grounds but you can do better then this Dallas

Need help finding experienced reptile buyer

Hi, I have 2 baby Kenyan sand boas and I’ve realized I’m a little out of my depth when it comes to my ability to care for them.

I want to find an experienced reptile owner to try to sell them to and ideally would be someone local to Dallas.

They didn’t ask to be born and I want to make sure they have excellent lives, so I don’t just want to post them on Craigslist. I also don’t have Facebook so I wouldn’t be able to access any DFW reptile FB groups.

Are there any local… groups or anything y’all know of where I could create a listing to post them?

Think Energy Experience?

Does anyone have experience with Think Energy? I know that "energy providers" are just billing servicer's in Texas, but their overall low ratings make me a bit nervous. That said, their Think Clean 12 with Smart Thermostat connected plan is the best rate I can find on powertochoose. Unless I'm reading something wrong, it seems like there is no downside to this plan other than losing out on the $10 discount by not having a smart thermostat, right? Does anyone have experience with them or this plan? Any issues with them processing payments? I hate this part of living here because these decisions always feel like rolling the dice lol

Anyone Sick w Norovirus?

Seems Norovirus is raging through the Midwest and wondering if it was terrorizing Dallas? I had some horrible illness Monday/Tuesday of last week and trying to decide if it was food related or this virus. I spent the two days before going out to eat and hanging with friends.. none of whom have gotten ill. Let me tell you, I don’t think I’ve ever been this sick before. It came out of nowhere and then I couldn’t keep anything down or in for 12+ hours. My gut is still recovering and my ribs/abs feel like I was hit by a truck, but I survived! Stay safe! Wash your hands! Don’t touch anything! 😆

Tips to avoid both expensive Ubers &/or congested gridlock at Dallas airports this Christmas.

If you remember back to Thanksgiving, there were pictures and videos of DFW in a complete gridlock with some people waiting two hours to reach their loved ones and others walking from their uber to the terminal.

If you are arriving at DFW Airport and need a ride, you can avoid traffic congestion by taking the DART rail from Terminal A to Beltline Station, which is one stop away. This approach allows you to avoid gridlock and makes it easier for someone to pick you up. It works best if you aren't checking bags unless you are landing in Terminal A.

To reach the DART rail, take the Skylink from terminals B-E to Terminal A and get off near Gates 1-15. Exit the Skylink toward Gate 15, go down the escalator, and walk toward the Baggage Claim exit near Gates 12 and 13. From there, walk to the far right, take the stairs or elevator to the ground level, and follow signs to the DART rail station. Trains run every 20 minutes, and the ride to Beltline Station takes about five minutes. This tip is not ideal for elderly passengers or those who find navigation challenging but can be replicated for travel toward Fort Worth by using the TexRail train stop near Terminal B.

If you are flying into Love Field Airport, you can avoid expensive rides and traffic by taking the free Love Link DART bus from the airport to Inwood Station. The ride takes about 10 minutes and avoids both traffic and higher ride-share prices. To find the Love Link bus, exit the baggage claim area, go to the far right, and look for the shuttle level, which is located one level below baggage claim. This method is quick, cost-effective, and avoids the usual hassles of airport pick-ups during busy seasons.

Merry whatever it is you celebrate and be nice to each other this holiday season.

Flagpole hill rhyme or chant kids do

I went to an elementary in garland pre 4th grade and my mom and I went to flagpole hill for picnics and to fly kites a lot when I was a kid. I have this niggle in my brain that there was some sort of chant or rhyme about flagpole hill, but cannot for the life of me remember exactly what it was. Does anyone know what I’m talking about?

Question for White Rock Lake runners/walkers

Y’all do know there’s a paved pedestrian path that goes all the way around the lake right?

Sure there’s a few spots that cross the roadway or briefly share it, but a good 9 miles out of the 9.5 mile loop has a paved path solely for pedestrians and slow cyclists.

It’s pretty absurd that there’s people running 4 wide on the roadway around the North shore boat clubs, Bathhouse, Winfrey Point, by the Arboretum, and Lawther Dr. - when they all very nice paved paths a few yards away.

You don’t need to run on the ROADWAY that goes around the lake.

You’re an impediment to cyclists and a danger to yourselves and motor vehicles. Get a clue

Edit to add:

Sec. 552.006. USE OF SIDEWALK. (a) A pedestrian may not walk along and on a roadway if an adjacent sidewalk is provided and is accessible to the pedestrian. (b) If a sidewalk is not provided, a pedestrian walking along and on a highway shall walk on the left side of the roadway or the shoulder of the highway facing oncoming traffic, unless the left side of the roadway or the shoulder of the highway facing oncoming traffic is obstructed or unsafe. (c) The operator of a vehicle emerging from or entering an alley, building, or private road or driveway shall stop and yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian approaching on a sidewalk extending across the alley, building entrance or exit, road, or driveway.

How did we lose $40-$50K in tax exemptions on our home?

We live in Carrollton, Denton County. Just received the tax bill from the Denton County Tax assessor.

2024 Total Market Value: $513,808

2023 Total Market Value: $525,468

2024 City of Carrollton Exemption: $151,542 Taxable Value $362,266

2023 City of Carrollton Exemption: $207,089 Taxable Value $317,659

2024 Denton County Exemption: $53,918 Taxable Value $459,890

2023 Denton County Exemption: $107,970 Taxable Value $417,498

How/why did we lose ~$50,000 worth of exemptions?

Absolutely nothing has changed. In fact, I will be filing for the addition Over 65 $10K exemption next month. Otherwise, no change this year.

But what happened? Some temporary exemption expired? Error?

Are most Dallasites just surface level, not willing to see anyone more than once a month at most?

I've seen a recurring theme after moving here and living here for a year. Everyone I meet when they say "let's hang out sometime" means in a month, maybe two, them sliding back from seeing their partner in another state or their kids, they barely have any time between the weekend job and the other job that keeps them afloat. I get maybe this is just what's like to be in DFW.

What I want to know is if this is how it is for everyone here. I feel like there's families, people who are divorced who have way too little free time, and then there's this hidden single population who may hang out at graveyards, I have no idea and I haven't figured out how to meet them and I'm guessing I never will.

Every girl I've gone on a date with says their next availability is in a month too. Most have weekend gigs, I lose interest by then and just don't text back.

Where I used to live I saw my best friend two times a week. I would hang with this guy and watch movies and eat pizza for about 5 hours each time we hung out. Just talk about life. I've known this guy since middle school. I know I can't replace this, not wanting to but wanting to find a friend to hang out and play games now and then for a few hours. is there just "friends since grade school" and then "hang out once every three months for a beer or ramen for an hour" Dallasites?

I'm sure, I hope people hang out for a while somewhere here- I'm hoping there's more types of people than the dozens I've talked to at this point. The main thing seems to be family here. If you don't have that, (I'm 33, single, never married, no kids) I just feel like I need to leave. Nobody can relate to me here, most people are on their 2nd marriage with kids and they ask me if I have kids every damn conversation I have at work, or at the arcade.
