PORTLAND, Ore. — The man suspected of setting fires in ballot drop boxes in Oregon and Washington state is an experienced metalworker and may be planning additional attacks, authorities said Wednesday.

Investigators believe the man who set the incendiary devices at ballot boxes in Portland, Oregon, and nearby Vancouver, Washington, had a “wealth of experience” in metal fabrication and welding, said Portland Police Bureau spokesperson Mike Benner.

My friend was commuting on his scooter today, 10/30, and was in a serious accident involving a truck.

The first thing the nurse said to me when I got to the hospital is how much she hates scooters. Yeah, duh. They probably see this shit multiple times a day.

He is in serious but stable condition. His recovery will be long and arduous. The first thing he said to me when I saw him was fucking hilarious so I know his noggin is ok.

LOOKING FOR WITNESSES The accident happened in the Ravenna area at 65th St and 26th Ave NE around 12:05 PM.

A truck (need more details) turned right without a blinker. Unfortunately, my buddy slid under the truck and became intimately familiar with its back tires.

We are looking for witnesses to the accident. It occurred today, Wednesday, October 30. He was wearing an orange rain jacket and silver helmet.

If you know someone who has surveillance or a ring camera in the area, please let me know.

SPD was very helpful when I called the non-emergency line. I have an incident number and am waiting for an officer from the North Precinct to call me back. Will go to the businesses in the area tomorrow to ask about footage too.

GETTING A FULL REPORT- ASKING FOR TIPS The fire department tracked me down and told me the driver split- it was a hit and run.

When I got to the hospital, my friend was coherent and said he spoke with the driver. Wasn’t able to get any additional details from him (pain meds had him seeing elephants at this point). I am going to assist him by working with the FD and SPD on getting more info about the accident on the record. Please let me know if you have any advice on how I can best work with these two agencies to get a record of what happened and ideally the identity of the driver.

Any other tips on supporting my friend are welcome. What does someone staying in the hospital for a while need? A long phone charger, blanket? Can’t bring food for now (special diet).

An independent research firm is calling around to see why people are leaving the district. Their exhaustively long list of potential 'reasons' for leaving doesn't include academics.

Even when the district hires consultants to help fix itself, it cannot find a way out of their little parrallel universe. If they call you, please be sure to use the open response questions liberally.

I want to give a shout out to King County elections, I truly believe they are literally the leading edge of mail in voting, and have a model and work ethic I feel like the entire nation should follow.

I had several issues this time around due to postal issues. Their web portal for replacement/print ballots is very good, and I got very good support from both their email and phone support.

After all issues I had, I got confirmation my ballot was counted for this historical election.

Not trying to push any opinion, just trying to understand if this really taxes only the rich and provides stable funding to education like it claims. Just trying to see if there’s any new perspectives I haven’t considered before making my vote.

Can someone explain how capital gains tax is beneficial in the long run? A tax that the rest of the country considers an income tax managed to slip by as an excise tax. What's to stop the state from lowering the threshold to tax the rest of us?

1. The tax has been set up as a tax only for the rich and for children to gain support, with predicted projections that they will receive 100% of the revenue. Despite having a surplus, a new tax was introduced for funding something that was already within the budget to fund.
2. The richest leave the state so they don't have to pay the tax as the cost of leaving is less than the cost of the tax. With just Bezos leaving the predicted revenue has already fallen by 300 million.
3. When the state now receives lesser revenue they lower the threshold. Also since the billionaires left the state receives even lesser taxes paid. Although the richest pay the least taxes, the absolute value they pay is still much more than what we pay.
4. Even more people leave the state to not pay
5. Repeat 3 and 4 until the threshold is zero and the state has backdoor implemented an income tax on all kinds of sales including real estate.

If it ever reaches 5 will it be too late to repeal the tax then? Considering the lesser revenue the state will be making with all the rich people gone. I want to know if I'm missing something on how this won't affect the middle class in the long run.

With the general election less than a week away, Washington voters are making their decisions early.

My wife should arrive end of December after getting her green card. She doesn’t want to live near my ex. So i am looking for a neighborhood on west side. Tacoma, Gig harbor, port Orchard and so on (i suppose it is called west side)

Where would i find a community which is safe, access to kumon for my daughter and reasonably populated. My wife is a city dweller so wants neighbors for sure

Just curious as it's always kind of sketchy moving long distance. I realize everyone here can't recommend a mover for leaving since you're here now, but maybe you had a friend or something who had a bad experience with a local mover?

Hi I’m in town for a week or two and just looking to transmute stress into lovely notes. I know the library has music rooms but are there any public spaces with a piano open? It helps for me to play for people not myself or else I don’t see the purpose.

Chop house row used to have one. But no longer. Anything like that? A piano in a public space that is free for someone to play nice healing music for a short while?
