Anyone have recommendations on where I can pickup some nice cookies tomorrow? Iâd like them for when people start arriving for thanksgiving
I took the bus from the ferry today, the 98. I pulled the cable and requested a stop, knowing the next stop on the route was a couple blocks away. The bus stopped immediatelyâŠthere were only three other people on the bus and it was awkward. I didnât get out. The bus then closed the doors and kept going. I pulled the cord again when we came to the intersection the stop âshould haveâ been at. It stopped and I left. Do bus drivers even pay attention to the stops listed on the bus route? Howâs does this work?
TLDR: will the busses stop anywhere you request, or only designated stops on the route?
From an outsider about to move up there next month, we were under the impression that most homes would have whole home generators with how many horror stories you hear about power losses in the winter.
We were really surprised to not see that many! Is having a whole home backup generator a must must have? Those that don't have them, do you run into issues with losing food, or not having heat, etc in the winters?
EDIT. Our home is almost 100% electric, just a propane oven/range only. Heating is hydronic floor heat done by an airpump. The septic is also pressure distributed, so it has an airpump too.
No power!!!!!
Oh I do love the whole living in the forest feel, really it is a special place. I understand folks don't want to or can't expend the effort to maintain trees that are in risk of damaging the powerlines streen all around the island. I get that the reflex to pointing at how wealthy this island is gleans over the bureaucratic complications with real estate and liabilty or whatever between the county, PSE, etc. However, it is a really wealthy place, why can't wupgeade our antiquated infrastructure? Can anyone provide a sound argument for not burying the power lines?
There are dozens of us. DOZENS!

I feel like someone asked about this here. If not, scroll forth. Read that early bird pricing ends tomorrow night (sat) at 9. Whoâs running/ walking?
I will be getting some camping gear soon. Is there a shop on Winslow that sells some gear?
Hi there! I live in Seattle and often take the ferry and wander around and grab food on Bainbridge. Have a friend visiting and we want to go see the troll this coming Sunday. I had mapped it out with a bus from the ferry when she was going to come last week during the week... only to find there is no bus on Sundays. I was thinking about using the BI Ride, but how far in advance would I need to schedule? Could I do that from the ferry? I don't want to be tied to a timetable. I also saw Eve's car service and I have been lucky enough to grab an Uber once in a while... any recs for those or others?
What's my best bet to get to the park where "Pia the Peacekeeper" troll is? I'm on a cane and could probably walk back to the ferry but couldn't do a round-trip. Thanks neighbors from across the water!
Nice wind storm. Kids had fun around the fireplace.
Iâd like to kick a soccer ball against a wall. Any suggestions as to where on BI I might be able to do that would be appreciated. Thanks!
Hey all! I live elsewhere in the Puget Sound area. How would you compare Bainbridge Island with Vashon Island? I googled it, and all the comparison forums are just people complaining about ferry commutes to Seattle. I want to know how they differ as places to live. I'm aware Vashon is in King County and that Bainbridge is in Kitsap County. Obviously, that affects governance. How is the culture different? How are available activities different different? Etc.
Thanks in advance!
Iâve read that BI wonât allow ADUâs on wheels, Iâm guessing thatâs to keep people from renting out RVâs but Iâm assuming also includes tiny homes built on a trailer?
Any ways around this? Wondering if taking the wheels off and putting the frame of the trailer on foundation would work. Anybody have experience with ADUâs on the island?
I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but here we go...
My family and I considering a work related move to the Seattle area, and if we choose to go forward with this, we are strongly considering BI. I've been traveling out to SEA every 6-8 weeks for 3 years now, so I'm very familiar with the area at this point.
That said, a family member sent us a link to the SPS gender lesson videos page:
https://www.seattleschools.org/departments/health-education/lgbtq/k-5-gender-lessons/
While I have zero issues with anyone wanting to transition, or being LGBTQ in general... I don't really want this shown to my 7 year old. It's too much for him to process.
So my question: Are these videos also being mandated in Kitsap County? Is this only a Seattle metro thing? Any other info that could be provided in regards to how Kitsap county will handle WA State Bill 5462 would be very helpful.
Thanks all for your time.
Hi! Iâve just moved over here from Australia. Iâm so excited to be living here. Itâs so beautiful here and so far everyone Iâve met has been lovely.
What are some bucket list things to do around the island? What are the must see and do things?
Looking forward to reading all of your responses!
Iâve been living on the island for about a month and a half now. Most nights, I get home late, and itâs pitch black outside. Up until now, nothing unusual has ever happenedâjust quiet, peaceful nights. But tonight was different.
After running a quick errand to Safeway, I returned home and parked my car. As I started walking toward my door, the silence of the night was broken.
âHey.â
The voice was faint, almost a whisper.
âHey, look over here.â
I froze mid-step, scanning the darkness. Nothing. Just the rustling of leaves in the breeze.
Again, the voice called. âOver here.â
My pulse quickened. I spun around, straining my eyes to see through the shadows. Still, there was nothingâno figure, no movement, no sign of anyone nearby.
Trying to shake off the creeping unease, I hurried to my door, grabbed my flashlight, and swung the beam of light across the yard. My heart was racing, and the night seemed unnaturally still, like the island itself was holding its breath.
But there was nothing there. Nothing at all.
It was one of the strangest, most unnerving moments. I donât know whatâor whoâit was. Such a strange experience.
I just find this situation rather humorous.
Apparently the moderators got into a spat because one of them wanted to allow National politics posts.
The sole moderator who wanted this, then kicked all the other moderators out and subsequently appointed only their friends.
Now the remaining moderators include one of the most annoying members of the entire group, a guy who insufferably posts political diatribe as if itâs his sole profession.
Anyhow - amusing to observe. The cannibalistic demise of Facebook marches on.
I am sure there are, but I have not seen any yet.
Any poor souls commuting to Redmond interested in starting a vanpool to Redmond?
We have a ditch where water is supposed to drain into during heavy rain like we are having. With grass and leaves falling from overhead, the ditch is clogged and not effective. Is this something I can ask the city to clear out? Or is it the responsibility of the homeowner to clear the ditch?
Looking for some fun indoors now that our local fall weather has descended? Come play some Magic The Gathering with some locals!

This may sound alarmist to some, offensive to others, but since there's currently policy being developed at the national level to bring about mass deportations, including using state/local police and potentially the military to arrest immigrants and concentrate them for deportation, I'm curious how we can prepare as a community. Keep in mind this could impact all immigrants without citizenship status, including naturalized citizens and those with legal, non-citizen status based on the new policymakers public statements.
As the home of the Japanese American Exclusion Memorial and given our island's history we have a special duty to take action and protect our neighbors, coworkers, family, and friends.
By its nature this will be very sensitive to organize because defending against something like this will require both collective action and secrecy. I don't know how to approach to be honest - our local police seem willing to listen, but state/federal enforcement certainly less so.
Any ideas on how we can effectively organize to prepare for this?
Iâm opening a shop on the island in February and am looking for recommendations for a skilled carpenter or contractor. Iâll need help in December and January with shelving, a checkout counter, and a few other installations. Planning to salvage as much as I can but will need some custom work. Thanks so much!
Specifically looking for womenâs and childrenâs clothing.
Hi all â
Does anyone know of any real estate agents on Bainbridge Island (or the surrounding area) who specialize in selling old houses? I'm hoping to find someone to help my parents sell their beautiful, 119-year-old home with waterfront access. It needs the right kind of agent â and the right kind of buyer!
Is there any place on the island where people are gathering to watch election results come in? Preferably someplace with booze- celebratory or anesthetic depending.
