What the hell is this from? It’s bothered me for years.
that is all, have a good day
I was eagerly anticipating the SMOOCH band announcement today, but wasn't able to listen. I saw on the SMOOCH site that Duff McKagen was added to the lineup today. Please tell me he's not the headliner... Did anyone who listened today hear if there is more to come? I recall one of the DJs mentioning last week that the headliner was very Pacific Northwest. I love me some guns n roses, but they aren't what I would consider PNW.
The first SMOOCH I went to in 2017 was absolute fire with TACOCAT, Built to Spill and Phantogram. One of the best shows I've ever been to. I don't feel like the lineups in recent years has lived up to that one.
Edit: John just announced that it's Nude Dragons (aka Soundgarden with Shania Shepherd on vocals), and I'm pretty stoked.
Kinda bummed
It's been over a year now since PTB was kicked to the curb and I'm still missing it.
Ideally I'd like a show whose archives can easily be played (via a smart speaker if possible).
I realize there are both user-made and algorithmic playlists available on the streaming services that will play some of the similar music, but it usually doesn't match the quality/diversity/depth of PTB at all. While I knew a good chunk of artists he played I don't have their works collected (in physical or virtual formats) to just play things myself. Plus, there was always new/unheard of stuff that was fun to hear.
There are 5 of us here this morning, thinking we should do this regularly, such a great vibe in this space, let me know what you think.
i happened to be listening to the morning show the day john introduced Zeds Dead's "Channel Surfing". first he set up that he was going to play a new cuh-raaazy song, then he played the Korgi's song that serves as the sample, then he came back on the air for a re-introduction, then he played it.
and hell yeah i loved it! it was great! i instantly made a note to seek it out and add it to a playlist later. i thought it deserved the pomp and circumstance that preceded its on-air debut.
and then a few days later i heard it on the radio again. and like.. i "called" it. i don't remember the DJ (probably john) but they were introducing a song and talking it up and i thought "i bet this is that zeds dead song again" and sure enough! there it was again. clearly this song was turning heads because of all the on-air love it was getting!
and like i said, i was on board. i really dug hearing it while driving my car.
but then ... it found its way onto my playlist. and i have to say, this song has quickly gone from "super charming standout dance hit" to "fury-inducing nails on chalkboard earworm (but not in a good way". i don't know what happened! i guess to me it was just one of those songs where when you first hear it you LOVE it and think it's so amazing, and then it just wears out its welcome real fast and quickly starts drawing ire whenever you hear it.
so i'm wondering if anyone else is getting sick of this song after loving it when first hearing it, or if that's just me!!
(also i don't drive every day so i don't get a consistent exposure to the morning show i wonder how often it's been played or if it's been discussed any more over the last few days that i haven't driven my car.)
I'm sure this has come up before, but curious if there are still fans of this retired show? I believe KEXP has archives online.
😀
I am listening right now on the archive and as a deadhead who spends an inordinate amount of time defending my deadheadedness, I think this show is a gem! I love the format of convincing Greg to like the Grateful Dead by having various people choose set lists and giving them a chunk of time to 'make their case' as to why Greg should change his opinion of the Dead. This is why I love KEXP.
After yesterday's much appreciated grief special, the music playing today is hitting perfectly. It has me in an amazing mood. I feel like crying bc of how awesome it is 😎😹.
Going to need a playlist for this bad boy 🔥
Did they change the date for this show? I sent my story, they emailed me back saying it would air today (November 11) but can’t find it on the archive.
Thanks in advance 🫶🏻
Thank you RIZ!!!!!!!!!!!!
I tuned into the morning show on Thursday and the first thing I heard was John Richards say "That was one of the best shows I have ever heard here". He was talking about the Early Show that morning with Kevin Sur.
I finally got around to listening to it and after having a good ol' ugly cry because of it, felt inspired to share it here (as I don't have social media any more). If you are finding yourself needing hope or a hug in the wake of the election, I highly recommend going to the archive and listening to Thursday Nov. 7th's Early Show. I absolutely agree with John.
The morning show has made me cry a few times and I think today is one for the books. I’m pulled over to listen to Symphony no. 7 - but have been in tears since the America double header. I’m beyond grateful for this station and what it brings to my life. With KEXP and WNCW, I’m never without a soundtrack.
Holy crap! That is all.
I love and appreciate so many of the KEXP DJ's (Evie, Riz, Troy, Kevin) but recently found Vitamin D and can't stop listening to his shows. Just awesome!
If so that’s a big bummer as I enjoy having it on in the background when I’m looking things up like cooking or other tasks. Thanks in advance if I’m just not realizing something.
I'm looking for a KEXP poster, the artist was South American and female, probably 10-15 years ago. I looked around KEXP.org but didn't find much. Any chance this rings a bell for anyone? TIA.
