That’s all.
I believe the person reading the ads used to be a guy named Julian? But since KEXP started broadcasting in the Bay, I hear a woman's voice that sounds VERY NPR to me. It catches me by surprise every time. Am I the only one?
I’ve always enjoyed WoPop over the years but I haven’t been able to tune in reliably over the past few months. However, on this week’s show and another recent week’s there was a different host - not Derek.
I didn’t catch her name but it was a female voice with a very odd manner of speaking- vaguely British sounding, slow cadence, and an extra emphasis on consonants at the end of a word. Her music selections were great, but I found her voice to be really distracting. Not sure if she’s not a native speaker, or what - I don’t want to sound rude but I’d be lying if I said her voice wasn’t a little off putting (especially for broadcasting).
Anyone have context? Know when/if Derek Mazzone will be back?
It's more than the connections, it HOW the connections had come about - the history and how Ruth is Stranger than Richard, wait... did I say that right?
Impossible to listen to everything but when it rolls, it goes deep and the DJ's knowledge is keen.
Thanks, KEXP.
For challenge round, how about anything Muppets?
Does this feel (sound) a lot like a membership drive .. so much talking! Sure some of it is interesting. But I get how it works now.. don’t need a run down every time about how they pick the songs.. more music ! Less talking!
KEXP is a great source for music discovery, but they do indeed get into ruts sometimes.
What songs do they just need to chill out on and retire, at least for a while?
This is about the third week in a row. I’ve gotten up early to listen to this show in the morning. Mind you I’m in CST.
I have seen a few places that offer KEXP merchandise (Teepublic and others) but is there anywhere else I should look? I’d like to grab a T-shirt.
When can we expect merch from donations to come in the mail?
So I've never heard Atticus, but I'm listening to him right now as I always tune in at 4pm on Mondays for Riz (I mean I have Alexa set up to just start playing KEXP at 4pm every Monday!), and so far, I really like him and what he is playing. I will have to check out some of his overnight shows in the archive. I love when this happens. :)
There are only three Song of the Day feeds in the world, and KEXP's is by far the best - but I've been concerned that they've switched up the format for the recent Best Of series and I've just seen in the description of the most recent show that there's a new podcast coming to the feed.
Is there any information about what this show might be? I'm a little concerned that it'll be a talk show or something that isn't just simply a song delivered to me once a day - the whole reason I subscribed.
I have seen a few, past comments about the Android app frequently causing the "KEXP is supported by..." announcements to re-occur multiple times during a single streaming session, but I am writing to say thanks to the team that works on that system as that has substantially decreased in recent days/weeks. I very much appreciate the on-going tweaks, improvements, and adjustments. Thanks for all you do.
No listen option on the website. Stream down?
I'm curious what other stations people listen to? I've been compiling a list of like radio stations and would love to find some I hadn't encountered before.
You did it again, brother. Loved loved loved the show today. Keep going. Your growing confidence is contagious 🙏
what do listeners think about this move? granted the bay area is pretty much seattle in terms of outlook to life
But given that i listen via streaming and how most listeners in the bay area before were just streaming, you do wonder if this move is a bit more one of convenience? ie to have people driving around the bay area be able to have kexp on while theyre driving around in their cars on 92.7?
That’s like the third time in the past six(?) weeks it’s been broken.
For anyone who listened live, has Lace gotten in to what happened with Mo?
Just wanted to say thanks to KEXP for adding Android Auto to the app. I know it has been in the works for a long time. Huge enhancement to the listening experience for drivers!
I recently discovered this while trying to enrich my listening habits ~ I have an AAA station (KXT) in Dallas/Fort Worth that I regularly listen to but this is a close second.
I know it's positive vibes only, but seriously. Why?
I've loved Kevin Cole's eclectic mixes and music history lessons since I started listening to KEXP a decade ago. I can't wait to see what he comes up with now that he has more free time!
"For the last 25 years, Kevin Cole has been a friend to listeners who've flipped their dials (or URLs) to KEXP weekday afternoons and early evenings. He plans to leave his Drive Time show this summer."
I turn KEXP on low every morning while I'm going thru my morning coffee & breakfast routine. This morning that repetitive beeping sound was driving me crazy- I searched all over my living room to find whatever device or smart plug was beeping!
Took me way too long to figure out it was the early show fundraiser background music.
Anyway, what's your favorite fund drive background? Mine is Salome from Future Sounds of Jazz, they played it several years ago and I love it.
Today's episode was really great. Thank you Noel
Head on over to kpnw and Marco is on right now.
Friday evening.
Commercial radio though...
