Hey guys,
I’ll try not to make this a novel. Since 2012 I’ve been pretty much predominantly fly fishing for trout in rivers save for some high lake trips where I used gear. It’s not that salmon didn’t interest me, it’s the combat fishing that kept me from being really interested.
Well, we just put a deposit down on a sled.
I have exactly zero gear for this endeavor. Luckily I’ve got some time to buy what I need.
I would love to hear some suggestions on rods to start out with. I have ~15 fly rods, so I know that I’ll eventually end up buying more when I get some experience under my belt and figure out what I like and don’t like.
I’m less concerned with make, and more on length/ /weight/action. Not that I’m not interested in some good “bang for your buck” brands….
If you wouldn’t mind throwing me 2-4 suggestions to get started with, that would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
How far up the river along highway 2 would people consider too far to catch salmon that will still taste decent. Went out to the Skymomish today and Chum were along the bank finishing thier life cycle so that seemed to far?
I know it's not the best river in the state but it is very close and convenient for me to access. Thanks in advance.
The company I usually bought jigs from went out of business recently. Found some Aerojig branded jigs at my local tackle shop. There are two styles. One says Hyper UV and the other says Ultra UV. I haven’t found much online for what the difference is. What is the difference?
Anyone have like a rough estimate for when Klineline pond gets stocked?
Loads of chum and coho jumping, but I’m getting no bites from the bank. Tried buzz bombs of all colors, with and without hoochies, and tried spinners. Even tried a twitching jig with scent. A coworker recommended floating a soft bead which I will try this weekend. Just wondering if anyone else had any recommendations.
I live in thurston county. What do yall fish around here in the winter, Im experienced in trout, and bass but want to expand my portfolio. I’ve been dabbling on saltwater fishing from the bank, only getting flounder but mostly getting swamped. Does anyone have any good spots or fish for the season, whether it’s salt or fresh. I plan on trying squid. Are crappie and trout still pretty active around this time. Thank you!
South Fork Stillaguamish is my local river. I'm brand new to fishing. Anyone got any experience there?
Anyone know what the Skagit looks like this week? Was thinking of heading there to see if I could hook some late season silvers.
I'm originally from the midwest and one thing I've noticed is that fisherman here overload their hooks with bait when they're using floats compared to where I'm from. Will salmon/steelhead not hit unless the hook is absolutely concealed with eggs/herring?
Edge rods
I've got shore gear or a 12' boat at my disposal. Any suggestions?
Hoping to go this week :) thanks!
Hello all,
After having absolutely no luck with Coho, I was planning on hitting up the Green River in Auburn (by Soos Creek/Porter Leevee Natural area) with my little brother to hopefully catch our first salmon now that Chum are running.
Is this spot any good and if so, what are some good lures/rigs/setups to use here? Thanks! 👍
Lots being caught all over puget sound time to break out the cold weather gear and go getcha some
Hey all, I was wondering if anyone had any tips for catching salmon later in the season? Or if anyone had any spots they would suggest I try out. I’ve been trying to catch coho on the snohomish river for the last month but haven’t had any luck. I’m only bank fishing right now, so any advice for that would be a great help!
I see a lot of the creeks say bait is prohibited. Can you use bait if you're fishing at the mouth of the creeks(in the salt). What do you guys use if not bait? I'd rather not be snagging/flossing them.
I’m an underwater photographer and I’m especially interested in photographing Chum or Coho Salmon this season.
I’ll be based out of Elma, Washington, from November 1st through the 9th, and I’m looking to locate areas where I can find salmon in shallow, clear-ish water. I have a few spots in mind, but I’d love any advice y'all might have for finding ideal locations.
UPDATE: Found an active stream with Chum. This "Zombie Chum" Is one of my favorite portraits so far.
WDFW classifies some lakes in the Cascades as "Overabundant" and recommends people catch and keep their limit at these lakes to help control populations. Does anyone have any experiences with these? Are they easier to catch fish in and is it worth the trip out there?

Hello everyone! I will be visiting the Seattle area in November and am looking to do some fishing while I’m there. I had a few questions and found this sub so figured you all would have the most expertise. Thanks in advance and any help or pointers are very much appreciated.
1.) We will be staying right outside of Seattle. Would it be better to go through a Seattle charter and if so, do you have any recommendations? We’re leaning towards going that route because we do not have any gear and wouldn’t want to deal with shipping it back if possible.
2.) What type of fishing would you recommend? We’re visiting the second week of November and will be here for 10 days. So far I have not checked into what seasons will be open and was hoping someone could fill me in on what’s in season and/or what’s the best type of fishing in November?
3.) If you’re familiar with Seattle and the areas around it and think there’s something we should absolutely do or experience, please feel free to drop a line about that as well, even if it has absolutely nothing to do with fishing. I’ll take Reddit’s recommendations over just about anyone’s when it comes to local spots that tourists should check out.
Again, all help is kindly appreciated and we are looking forward to visiting your beautiful state.
We were fishing for trouts… My first impression was that it was a rainbow but I think I might be wrong? Steelhead vs Coho? (I think anal fin suggests the latter). The river is roaring today with a 6-8 feet increase in depth. Insights appreciated!

Hello,
I'm planning on hitting up Minter Creek over the weekend but am having a lot of trouble understanding the rules on where I'm allowed to fish along the creek and where I'm not. For example, I keep seeing mixed information online on whether or not I'm allowed to fish the area in between the bridge and the mouth and I'm really confused.
I'd really appreciate any other tips regarding salmon fishing at Minter Creek, thanks!
(I'm always making posts in this subreddit lol since I'm still trying to learn the ropes of fishing, so I really appreciate the knowledge and help I've received thus far in my other posts!)
MA10 is open til November 15th. I still see salmon out there jumping while I’m working (I work on Bainbridge a lot) and I’m wondering is there any other fish species I could target besides salmon and squid this time of year? And does anyone have late season salmon tips? Or daytime squid tips? Thanks
Hello all,
My little brother and I were looking to hit up any scenic trout lakes within an hour of Bothell/Snohomish that require a hike to get from the parking to the lake itself. We figured it'd be a really cool experience and any recommendations/tips would be greatly appreciated, thanks! 👍
