Thank you.

Just back from a couple of sensational days in Bendigo. Lived high on the hog for a few days. We stayed at the Ernest hotel ate at Masons and Mrs Batterhams. (Fantastic value for money) During the day we hired a couple of electric bikes and puttered out to Axedale on the O’Keefe rail trail. Your town and people are absolute gems. Thank you for having us.

Why do people tailgate me for doing 5km below the speed limit?

I do 5km under the speed limit (I use waze so it's definitely 5km and no more) to give myself a buffer in case I accidentally slip over the limit and get booked by those mobile speed cameras

But I still get tailgated. Like yeah I not it's probably annoying for other drivers to have to sit below the limit, but i'm the left lane so they can easily overtake me

Optus Outage?

Hello, is anyone else having issues using the Optus network?

They say there's a tower under construction in Bendigo that may effect signal, I have had zero mobile signal for the past 24 hours and want to make sure it's not actually an issue with my phone.

One of my coworkers was also having signal issues yesterday but I'd like to get a larger sample size.

Nail Salons - are there any good ones?

Hi everyone, Looking for good nail salon recommendations in the Bendigo and surroundong areas.

I am struggling to find a trustworthy nail tech / salon that I could frequent to maintain my nails. Every experience I have had in Bendigo has been average at best. I have tried at least 5 different nail salons and none have hit the mark. Currently I have acrylics but looking to get into rubber base/ gel nails. Does anyone have any reputable recommendations?

So far I have had nail techs over file my nails, shred my cuticles, give a "manicure" without any cuticle care or hand massage, create bumpy and super thick acrylic, being sat at a station with the previous client's nail filings still on the table top, the list goes on. I don't know whether I have been super unlucky or if the quality standard here is just so poor.

Does anyone have any genuine recommendations for a natural finish, hygienic, luxury acrylic/gel nail experience in Bendigo ?

You’re gonna have a bad day

If this is your car parked at the train station I’m thinking your return won’t be a happy one.

What’s Bendigo Like?

Hi,

I’m an international student coming to La Trobe (Bendigo) campus. I’m a little—let’s say stressed—about getting blindly thrown onto the other side of the world after a 16 hr flight from Canada. Just curious if anyone could tell me what life is like there whether it’s on campus or not. How are the people? Anything to do? Is it easy to travel around without a car? How’s the atmosphere and vibe? I’m coming from a smaller sized town (100k people) so how might it compare? My town gets rather cold in the winters so temperature isn’t too much of an issue either. How’s the trek to Melbourne? Possible in a weekend or even day trip? Must I go to Melbourne to take a flight to Sydney? I’m pretty keen on beach life and outdoors stuff too. I know the reason I’m there is to study but hoping that there might be some leisurely activities or fun things to do with fun people to get my mind off things. Any information about anything Australian even is welcomed. Blunt or not, I’d like to hear it. Thanks in advance.

Why do people in Bendigo hate speeders?

Like for real

I'm in the UK now and everyone does 90mph on the 70mph freeways (even police)

No road accidents either

Puts all the every k over is a killer ads to shame

Hey Bendigo, my first show in your town is tonight (along with heaps of other great shows as part of the comedy festival). I’m on at the same time as Hughesy so… tickets are still available. Hope you enjoy this joke and consider coming down to the Capital Theatre. Cheers!

Rental market question

Hey good people of Bendigo. I was hoping to hear what peoples expierence securing a lease in Bendigo or greater Bendigo area has been for them recently. I would be looking specially at 2 bedroom plus places for a family with 1 year + of good rental history with a price of about $400 per week.

Mobile speed camera tolerance

Was driving along the Calder freeway earlier today (110 zone) and noticed a mobile speed camera. I checked my speedo and it was showing about 115

Does anyone know if this is within the tolerance for the mobile speed cameras?

I haven't gotten a speed ticket in about 5 years now so even if I do end up getting booked, would there be thw option of writing to vicroads and asking for an official warning/caution?

Cheers

Bendigo Comedy Festival kicks off this week

If you weren't aware, the Bendigo Comedy Festival kicks off this week. It's a dope little festival and there are heaps of great acts doing shows. If anyone's looking for recommendations, my picks are Dan Muggleton, Bron Lewis and Luke Heggie.

I'm also doing a show (yes, this is shameless self-promotion) so if you want to take a punt on someone you've probably never heard of it would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise, check out any of the 20+ shows on this week, it's a stacked program!

Abandoned buildings?

Hi! I’m an amateur photographer and if anyone knows of any cool abandoned places to shoot in or around Bendigo that would be great! Preferably relatively safe, do not want to go down any mineshafts etc.

Hallucinations + unused meds

Question 1. Has anybody ever experienced hallucinations if prescribed tapentadol? Question 2. Do I take the box to my GP or pharmacy to get them changed?

I’m clueless with this shit and don’t wanna do the wrong thing.

Free Lego, Gaming and Tech sessions for neurodivergent young people!

Hi everyone,

I trialed social Lego, Gaming and Tech programs over the term 3 school holidays out of the Long Gully Neighbourhood Centre. Now we are having an official open day to encourage families/participants to check out what we have to offer.

I'm hoping I can get some more interest through Facebook, word of mouth and potentially reddit.

We are offering free 30-minute trial sessions in Lego, Minecraft, and Gaming over three days—October 25th to 27th. These sessions are designed for neurodivergent young people aged 9 to 25 (or potentially as young as 8, depending on the program). Each trial session is limited to four participants, though parents/carers are welcome to join and observe. I’ll also be available to answer any questions during the sessions. If you’re interested in a trial session, or know a family that may be interested, please pass on my details/info.
