Wondering if it will be easy to get a spot on the lake to camp over the australia day weekend?
Went to Halls gap for the weekend, been there maybe 2-3 times before and never experienced anything like it. The cicada's were extremely loud, I want to guess 90+Db, from sun up to sundown.
Does anyone know what's up with that and how common it is? I read every x years they explode in terms of breeding but that was from a US site so not sure if that applies.
Last year I bought my first swag a 23 Zero double 900 . I loved the concept but I had to sell it in the end I kept waking in the morning with shocking headaches from the PVC smell of the floor . It was like sleeping inside a car tyre or chemical factory . Tried several things like washing with soapy water & airing it out for days on end plus ventilating it at night . I've had the same issue with cheap hiking tents but not with the more expensive ones . Anyone else find have this issue ? Maybe I need a swag with a canvas floor ?
Gday boys and girls.
Just need to get away for a few days
I am looking for a spot near Melbourne with a river would be great. Maybe a little bit if 4x4 to get in would be great as well
I’ve got a self sufficient set up. Winch snorkel lift kit uhf.
Any suggestions would be great thanks legends.
Hi folks, hope you can help me out - want to try out my new swag/tent and am new to camping - any suggestions for somewhere near a beach where I can try it out - just a night or two initially. don't need anything special re facilities. thanks in advance!
I'll be off to Kinglake camping on a farm provided by a Hipcamp host.
Pic is my setup for solo camping.
Hey everyone, what are peoples experience going free camping just after xmas with no real plans? (between Dec 26 - Jan 5th) looking around Bright/Murray River etc. but anywhere will do (preferably with river/creek)
We usually book somewhere in advance but may not be the case this year.
TIA!
Hi there, just wondering if anyone has taken this track recently and if it’s suitable for a 2WD raised ute. If it’s anything like Meringtons Track from Walhalla road I will be fine.
Hey guys, Just wondering if you have any suggestions as to where I would be able to camp without access to transport by car as I am 17, happy to mish it on public transport from the Mornington pen. Thanks in advance :)
Looking into the best/cheapest/easiest solution for powering a 53l dometic camping fridge. My original plan was to go the tried and tested dual battery set up, but I’ve recently stumbled across a brand that offers a lithium battery that is supposed to work effectively as a power source for both crank and auxiliary power. There’s no wiring upgrades required, or extra battery mounting. Just a straight swap from old battery to new. The cost is similar to the dual setup. It sounds too good to be true, however I’m aware that technology is coming along in leaps and bounds, so it may be feasible. Does anyone have any experience with an Invicta hybrid starter battery?
Thanks for any info offered.
Is there anywhere over a long weekend that doesn’t get way too crowded? Specifically looking at getting away for Melbourne Cup long weekend for a few days.
Was looking at sheepsyard flat area but know it will probably be super busy and would have to go early. Any other recommendations nearby?
Anyone camped in Cape Paterson (ingenia holiday parks) ? We are looking into booking a campsite near the beach within 2hrs of Melbourne. Found this place, looks pretty good but reviews are either 1 or 5 stars 😅😅
Me and my partner are having our first visit to the Grampians this weekend. We are planning on sleeping in our car at Plantation Campground.
Obviously the risk with this is we drive off for a hike in the day and come back to find there are no spaces. Is this a potential risk or are you okay to just park up with a car if you don’t have a tent requiring a pitch?
Thanks I’m advance
Just started getting into camping the past 6 months and recently purchased a Kings Tourer roof top tent. I was away this weekend in Walhalla and the temperature dropped to -3 so I wasn’t able to keep the windows open. Just wondering if anyone has any tips or something they use help keep condensation to a minimum ?
Hey, considering options for campgrounds right now for a boys trip this summer. Has anyone been to 90 mile beach's campgrounds recently? Are they in good nick and is there any extra gear you'd recommend bringing for a trip there. Also is the nearby town of Sale any good for a day trip?
Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has been to the Trident Arms Campground recently as online it says the site is 4WD accessible only. is it possible to make it in with a hatchback/sedan? if not, recommendations for other camping spots in the Lakes entrance/Lake Tyers area would be much appreciated!
Myself and a few mates are looking to go camping in the area as it is V-line accessible (with ferrying from our groups car owners). this is essential as we are in a slightly unique predicament. As all of us in the group who own cars are only on our red P's we are not allowed more than one passenger, as such some will have to come on the v-line (camping gear driven up by the cars) and be driven to the site we end up at from the station at lakes entrance.
Again any help with what campsites you've been to/know of that would be possible will be greatly appreciated :)
Hi all, does anybody have any good recommendations for an overnight hike within about an hour from the Mornington Penninsula? TIA
Hi all - I’m looking to do some camping in the snow this season. Given a lot of high country roads close off, can anyone recommend some nice, remote, snowy camping spots?
Have a 4x4 for access.
Cheers! J
Hi. I’m looking for some recommendations on beautiful camp sites, must see stop offs and hidden gems, particularly east of Melbourne.
My wife and 3 year old are doing a camping road trip for our anniversary from Sydney to Melbourne taking the coastal route. Planning on spending about 4 nights to go from Gypsy point/Mallacoota to Melbourne. Not too bothered about site amenities but we only have a 2wd car. Love the quieter places. Somewhere we can light a fire is preferred considering the time of year.
At this stage we’re looking to stop off at Buchan caves and Phillip island but all advice or recommendations are appreciated
Hi all, I am planning on a camping trip to little river bridge campground. I’m finding it difficult to get much information on the road leading there from Rubicon ( blue range road).
I have a raised BT-50 , not 4WD I just wondering if my Ute would be suitable for that road ?
Any help would be be much appreciated.
Hey all, super novice camper here. I’ve got a 6 yo son, 1.5 yo daughter and a wife and looking to get into tent camping. Me and my son did a couple of camping in the holiday park sites to test out the equipments.
Don’t really wanna travel too far yet because of our younger one, preferably within 1-1.5hr radius from SE suburbs.
Would love some recommendations for the sites with toilet facilities and electricity (just in case it gets too cold and may need electric blankets).
Also tried Hipcamp app and saved some good ones for future but just wondering if there’s any hidden gems that the community may know!
Thank you in advance:)
Dispersed camping used to be allowed in certain parts of the Grampians and there was a LOT of talk or a ban a couple years ago. I cannot find any evidence online about a ban on dispersed camping there, and there's a parks vic factsheet dated 2022 saying you can.
Does anyone know if this has been superseded? Any recent experience wild camping in the Grampians?
We are considering getting a caravan. Young family who regularly camp with our dog in a tent.
Nothing expensive <7k and second hand (ideally even less $) Hoping to pick up something that needs interiors updated to maximise our money. Happy for an older model
The goal of the caravan is to minimise the packing and increase comfort. Neither of us have ever stayed in a caravan before and am keen to hear some basic advice on things to look out for and features (within budget) to be mindful of.
As we are looking to minimise packing time we are not considering a pop up top van.
Hey all, heading says it all. Want to camp at Eildon, don't want to carry water in on my back. If we boil it and use a water treatment tablet, is it drinkable?
Thanks!
