Following up my text post from the other day, captured this today…. What are Melbourne drivers doing? You could fit 2x Yarris in that lane…
Yo just need help I am trying to build a 72V 30AH 3000W beast but I don't know what bike to get. (I am only looking at getting a large frame) the kit l am gonna buy needs a 135mm dropout and here are the dimensions of the 72V 30AH battery.
Just a heads up because I don’t see it mentioned here, but the eastern freeway surface city-bound where all of the construction is happening (on the last 5km) is very sketchy.
The unevenness is fine, but where the surface is etched, it’s very slippery. I could feel the front slipping side to side a bit. To make things worse, there’s no emergency lane on left in a lot of places for you to take it slow if you need to and on a morning a lot of drivers are tailgating rushing to work.
Be safe.
Hello everyone,
Sorry for asking a question that has been asked a few times in here, I am a huge overthinker but didnt want to necro any other posts.
I got my learners permit back in October of last year, I have done roughly 3500km's on my bike, but I just dont know if I am capable of passing.
I should state I do not have a car license, I was given a 2nd hand bike, couldnt afford a car at the time so went for my learners on the bike instead, while I know this isnt the safest way to go about it it was just the best for my financial circumstances at the time, I am also over 25 so insurance wasnt too crazy so I decided to keep it.
I havent dropped my bike or anything, but since I did not previously have a car license, I am overthinking and overanalysing every little detail, and I just don't know how to tell if im "ready" I guess, I don't really have that person sitting beside me for 120 hours like a car giving me some confidence. I dont feel terrible on the road, headchecking and buffering and whatnot, but im so nervous for a test on my riding, even though im not nervous on the road now.
I booked a check ride but I just don't know how to decide whether pursuing the getting of my license with 5 months left (including end of year and christmas break) is possible. There are no motorbike test places near me either, so the area is totally foreign to me.
I would love some insight on the check ride if possible, maybe ways you knew you were ready? What you think I should work on daily (in terms of what you wish you were more prepared for) and just overall advice? I would appreciate it immensely.
Had my Svartpilen 401 in storage for a year (injury/illness), just replaced the battery. Is there anything else I should know about before a start riding it regularly again?
recently got my licence and a 2014 cbr300, better to go full comp or 3rd party?
How much protection do they actually offer? I’ve considered them as I need a shoe that lets me move my ankle a bit more flexible than a full riding boot, as my shifter and peg are pretty close together and last time I wore boots I couldn’t even shift properly.
(perks of owning an older bike that is only really still popular in Europe, after market part options are slim)
do they really do much to protect you? Or are they sorta just a gimmick thing you buy because some don’t have laces to get caught on your bike and some are waterproof and that’s really all you get?
Just wanna know if there’s any actual benefit, because after looking at some they honestly don’t look all that protective 🤔
And before I get some idiot telling me “boots break in they’re hard to shift with for everyone at first”.. no, I’m talking I had to have my ankle physically angled as far down as I possibly can and only barely got the tip of the boot under the shifter.
Is it just my nsw bias but do Melbourne drivers not no how to stay in their own lane?
Swear we got taught how to colour in the lines at primary school back in NSW, wtf were you victorians doing?!
I have my learners permite test at HART Honda Kilsyth on October 30th. I did a Pre-learner course about a week ago for some extra practice and felt pretty good. The only major thing that happened is my steal cap boot got stuck and I had to pull off.
But I was just wondering if anyone had any last minute tips?
Hey all,
I will be moving to Melbourne in start of December, and wanted to know are there any meetups, or good groups to join?
In about a weeks time I'm about to pick up my first bike. I was wondering if anyone knew a good place to get my rwc done in the rowville area.
Cheers.
(UPDATE) guy has booked the rwc all sorted boys
New Rider here and wanted some clarity on best positioning when riding on a freeway.
Assuming it's a 3 lane road going in same direction, are riders best positioned in the Centre Lane on the right most side (moving to the left most side of the lane when trucks are approaching in the right mirror)?
Or are we better off in the left Lane on the right most side and switch between the centre and left lanes when cars are entering the freeway/Merging lanes?
Hey guys, starting a new project bike, wanting to get it riding on the road. I've heard it can be a pain with needing OEM parts. Is there any truth to this? And does anybody have the requirements? Can't find anything online.
I’ve found a bike I want interstate and am looking at all transport options, the only option I can’t find much info on is via cargo/freight train. Thanks.
Hi all,
Looking at getting work in Port Melbourne, and I live a good hour in the West. I won't know if I'll be able to handle the traffic via car for long, does anyone regularly do it by bike?
What's your experience been like and how do you go with filtering on the western freeway is she abit tight?
Only ever riden on the dirt and not heavily on congested roads.
TIA
Yes- I know I can google it but the results are coming back confusing or just outright not there.
I have a YZF-R3 2018 and I’m looking for a reputable brand that does slip ons for my bike/ similar. (Reputable as in not a knock off from eBay). I’ve tried looking for myself but most come back as being for the ninja 400 and I’m not sure if it would work for me. I understand not many people “mod” r3’s but I’ve decided to stick with it until I’m off my restrictions because I’m not paying 12k for a second hand r7 when a second hand r1 is 15k, so I want to make the bike feel more like my own.
Posting this here because I need help sourcing from places that will ship to or operate out of Melbourne. And please be gentle, I’m a year old female rider with no mechanical experience (use small words please hehe)
Hello, can I ride in Melbourne with a WA Learner's permit or would I need to redo theory test and do the course in Melb?
Thank you
Edit - The video didn’t upload but thanks for all the sacrifices you made in helping answering me redditors 😂🤦
Morning fellas, how do I handle my first pollen season on bike here in Melbourne. Certainly no-riding is not an option 😀
Any tips would be really helpful 🙏🏽
Hi all,
Reaching out to this subreddit again as I have a few more questions regarding the Road to Motorcycle L's. Went for my pre-Learners on Sunday at HART Somerton and enjoyed that a lot.
I read through much of the Victorian Rider Handbook last night which tells me I need to pass my Car Learner Permit Knowledge Test before I can get my bike L's. I don't have a learner's permit for four wheels yet - I have never driven a car before and I kept putting off my car licence when I was living in NSW before moving down here. I'm hoping I will be able to just go straight for my two-wheel licence.
I have had some experience riding on roads here in Melbourne with my e-scooter, although I am very wary of heavy traffic at times.
Is it possible to just book the learner permit knowledge test on VicRoads without going for my car L's, or will I need to postpone my motorcycle plans slightly? At the moment I am hoping to have some sort of learner's permit in my hands before the new year.
Thanks again for any advice people can give me :)
Hey guys, I’ve got another question about the motorcycle license. For the MLA, what kind of shoes are required? The online guidelines just mention “sturdy footwear.” Would mid-height sneakers be acceptable? I’m currently travelling and don’t have a bike, so I’m trying to avoid buying motorcycle boots just for the MLA.
Hey all,
Just wanted to know if the public motorbike parking bays in the middle of the street were safe for everyday overnight parking. I know it’s not ideal, but I haven’t found any parking spaces for rent anywhere near my location, and my apartment building doesn’t give me a parking space.
My bike has recently been stolen and it was parked right in front of my building on the footpath — the perpetrators used an angle grinder to cut through the chain I used to secure it.
When I get another bike, would it be safe to park in the public parking bays? I reckon that it’d be more safe than parking on the footpath in front of my building as there are usually around five or six motorcycles parked in the bays as well.
Thanks everyone in advance.
After 500 hours of riding - confident enough that I’ have the skills to 1) keep up with a group but 2) keep me as safe incase anyone else has a mare.
None of my mates in Melbourne have any interest in motorbikes and just split with the misso so got plenty of time back
Looking for a chill group around SEast Melbs (Prahran, St Kilda etc) around. Any advice or information would be much appreciated!
Hey guys, I'm looking to repaint/respray an entire motorcycle (honda rebel 500), is there any place you would reccomend, and any idea on the cost?
We mainly want to respray the bike into something more "stock" as it's currently got a custom flame and stars airbrush color that we're not quite diggin...
Cheers!
Planning to buy a 2021 Ducati monster LAMS from a second hand dealer who's offering a 3 years warranty for 1.5k. is it worth ? Does Ducati honor the warranty by second hand dealers ? It's a proper dealership which likely will not vanish after this sale, so I can go back knocking their doors, but again is it worth ? Anyone had previous experience with such warranties?
Looking for some clarification if possible. I passed my test years ago in the UK and now helping a friend look for a bike as he's just booked his Ls (I'm not really up to speed on the whole scene of restricted licenses and how these change after a period a time). He's keen on a BMW G650GS which appears to be LAMs approved for Victoria. However, I ran 2 rego checks on a couple that he's enquired about and one came back as non-approved. The only difference I can see is that one search returns 650GS (non LAMS) and the other returns G650GS. Anyone able to shed some light on this?
I have a Kawasaki ninja 400 and I want to install a USB charger on the bike but none of the parts on Kawaksi's website are avaliable for shipping to Australia and I was wondering if I could go to a shop and have them install it for me?
Hi everyone!
TLDR at the bottom :)
I’m looking to get some advice and suggestions on getting a bike and getting my bike license in VIC.
I (20f) have been wanting a bike since I was a kid. I have no prior experience with motorcycles apart from being a passenger on them but I can ride a bicycle well and have driven vespas in the past.
What would be some good sports bike options for a beginner? I’ve done some research and read that something 500ccs or less is good but it’s all very confusing and that sounds too big. I’m not very tall (5’5) and have a lean build and I know how heavy bikes are. I like the look of the Kawasaki Ninja and Yamaha R series bikes so something that looks like those would be nice.
I’m wanting to get a bike second hand as to not break the bank and also be able to invest in some good gear so any store recommendations for both bikes and gear for women would be much appreciated!
I’m also wondering if the license test is difficult to pass. I’m looking to get my license with the Honda HART 2 day course. It’s not exactly cheap so advice on anything I can learn or know prior to attending the course to help me out would be great!
I mainly just want a bike for fun since it’s always been a dream of mine and to hopefully make some friends through riding.
Thanks in advance everyone :)
TLDR: 20f, want to get a bike, no prior experience with bikes, what’s a good bike to get (I’m approx 5’5) and is the learner course hard to pass? Looking for any other beginner advice/suggestions for the course and for bikes in general.
Hi all,
I've been living in Melbourne for about a year now and have finally decided to get my licence - I am currently steering more towards a motorcycle licence than a car licence since a bike will probably be easier to manoeuvre in tight spots where I live and will be cheaper to run.
What are some good resources for someone who doesn't have their licence at all? I've kept putting off getting my licence for years for various reasons (uni then getting my career in order took priority), so I'm quite anxious about the process to get my L's.
Are there any good motorcycle schools in the CBD area? A lot of folks have recommended Stay Upright to me but their weekend sessions are booked out until November. Am also considering HART as well but want to consider all my options.
Any suggestions for a good "beginner's bike"? I'm considering buying a scooter (likely a Vespa, though the Honda NSS350 looks like a really good choice for the same price as a Vespa GTS) though I am open to other options as well - I do like the look of the 350 cc Royal Enfields.
Many thanks for any advice people can give me!
