Miracle Gro Fertilizer: Acid Loving vs. Orchid, Is there a Difference?

So, I was at a gardening store getting some stuff for my house plants, among which are some orchids that I'm still new to caring for, and I noticed a couple things.

The Miracle Gro brand's "Potting Mix" and "Moisture Control Potting Mix" both had the exact same ingredients and nutrients listed. In fact, there was VERY little difference at all between the back of the two bags labels. I then noticed the same thing going on with the same brand's "Acid Loving Plant Food" and "Orchid Food", only the Orchid food was in a container that was like half the size of the other, and WAY more expensive.

It really frustrated me, because either they were selling same thing under different packaging in an attempt to trick the consumer into spending more money, or they left out key information on the label, which I think I remember hearing is a thing companies can do to prevent them from stealing each other's secret ingredients.

I was going to just accept that I don't know the truth and both options suck anyway, and move on, but then I heard somewhere that Moisture Control Potting Soil DOES actually have weird little expanding jelly bits added to it to try and obsorb more moisture that can then be theoretically slow released back into to the soil. (A tactic that it sounds like doesn't work very well).

So once I heard that, my brain just started screaming, "IS THERE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE ACID FERTILIZER AND ORCHID FERTILIZER, IF THERE IS THEN WHAT IS IT, AND IF IT'S A DUMB DIFFERENCE, HOW DUMB IS IT?!" And I was wondering if there was anyone here who might know the answer to that and be able to help me put my mind to rest.

Tomato Tone Tea

So I made a tomato tone tea a couple of weeks ago, but I never strained (1/4 cup of fert in a 1/2 gallon bottle). The fertilizer has been in the water for 2 weeks and I’ve been using it on my plants. Is it too potent now? Will it damage my plants?

Question about Calcium content in fertilizer.

Hello, Reddit! I recently bought fertilizer that is 15-0-0 +26.5 CaO and I am totally confused. It is agricultural grade calcium nitrate and it says that water soluble Calcium (as Ca) is 19.0% and water soluble Calcium (as CaO) is 26.5%. Does is mean that this fertilizer is roughly 38% calcium by mass, if percentage of calcium in calcium oxide is about 72%? Please help me to figure this out

Organic gardening

The inclusion of probiotics in IQS organic fertilizer enhances soil health by promoting beneficial microbial activity. This can lead to improved nutrient availability for plants and enhanced soil structure. The combination of organic nutrients and probiotics can contribute to a healthier and more balanced ecosystem in your garden.

Question about orange peels in the garden

I was wondering if I could spray my orange peels with lab or a “compost starter” and put under a nitrogen loving plant as a fertilizer? Or maybe even just letting it sit in a little vinegar diluted with water to extract the properties before adding to my garden.

npk ratio ?

first time posting on this subreddit and i have a bit of an issue lets say a crop needs 300:100:100 and since fertilizer prices are going up i wanted to cut on fertilizer usage , would it be wise to do something like 300: 50:50 or 150 :50:50
btw lets assume the soil has almost no nutrients i need a ratio that wouldnt stunt or kill the crop thank you all in advance

Making fish emulsion

Please help me reddit. I need to make fish emulsion fertilizer from a fish (sucker fish) that contains heavy metals. Mostly cadmium, lead and Mercury. Can I remove this material once the whole fish decomposes after 8 to 10 months. Can I remove them and keep the organic solution suitable as a fertilizer? If someone can guide me I would really appreciate it. Thank you

Turning slow release fertilizer into a concentrate liquid or powder to use for houseplants?

I have a slow release fertilizer that i want to use so bad, but i like to add a very small amount of fertilizer to my water every time i water as its way easier for me to fertilize all the time compared to just once a month when barely any of my plants gets watered on the same day and i dont want to have to keep a fertilizer schedule.

Its the supertrive all purpose fertilizer with Mycorrhizae

It comes in a 1 kg / 2.2 lb bag with an NPK of 4-4-4

the instructions for use say to apply 1oz / 2tbs per sq. ft every 4-6 weeks

How would one go about making it into a powder or liquid to dilute every time i water? Has anyone had experience with this? I was thinking of just grinding it up and sprinkling a little bit into my watering can every time need to water. Any tips, ideas, and suggestions at all would be appreciated

Miracle gro foamed up

Hi I put miracle gro individual packet into a watering can and then added water. It foamed up. Did my toddler put soap into watering can or is it normal for miracle gro to foam up?

DIY fertilizer question

I have unlimited supply of rabbit poop which is 2.4, 1.4, 0.6 NPK. Can I add phosphate rock and potash and make an 8-6-8 fertilizer for my garden? Are there any guides for how to go about calculating the amounts to make this ratio? Is the NPK value decided by weight?
