So I am planning on traveling to greece and I want to bring my dji mini 3 with me. Just so i can get cool footage. I know i have to register it but I cant find the place to register my drone. Help???
I’ve been looking into fpv racing drones and don’t really know what to prioritize here. I was looking into the cetus pro fpv kit and meteor75 with the radiomaster pocket rc just because those come up when watching videos a lot.
I don’t really know much about this stuff but initially I wanted to get a drone that can adjust to my needs of learning like having beginner and advanced modes, or just scalable, a cost on the cheaper side of drones, if possible—a headset that is comfortable or less on the heavy side just because in the past the heaviness of a vr headset kind of messed with the fun in normal vr tech(but I understand that it’s a lot of tech to fit in a small space especially at the lower prices), and if possible—a cleaner/digital video system(but I know cheap and good visuals are a bit of opposites)…
This is what I’m looking for in a starting drone/kit and I’m fine with compromising on some of those wants to get a set that works well wether it’s any of the ones I referenced or others.
Used my other drone to get it down, who knows how longs it’s been there
Title. Looking to rent some TB60/TB65 batteries for a project coming up next week. FedEx has been just absolutely lovely to deal with for dangerous goods shipping and now I'm in a pinch.
I'm finding that the B4UFLY apps only include FAA data, but there are TONS of places we can't operate a drone such as state parks etc. Is there an app that includes all of these local restrictions into one place?
Seriously, I'm a complete noob and I just want to find a handful of open places where I can go practice my skills. I'm getting nervous because I don't know all the rules and there's no central place to find them.
Hi all, I have a quadcopter from about 7-8 years ago. I’ve never been able to get it to connect with an iPhone (usb cable or wifi dongle) but it works with Android, at least it did the last time I used it (5 years or so).
Has anyone ever got it working with iPhone? If not, what is the cheapest phone I could buy that would work with it? Apparently later androids don’t work either but I’m not 100% on this.
Any advice greatly appreciated!
I need to run paracord about 90 feet to top of a tree. Need to have both ends of paracord on the ground. Would it be possible to fly up over and down. So about 200ft of cord. No experience with drones. Want to learn this hobby anyway. Look like great fun. Seen some beginner drones for 50 bucks or so. Good Idea?
Need to interview a drone engineer or expert for my entrepreneurship class. Can conduct the interview via DM so wont need to do a call or zoom if that would be uncomfortable. Anyone want to help out? You will get to hear a novel pitch for a start up idea!
Want something with preset modes so I can get pics or videos . Plz help completely new to drones but have like 6 months to practice. Can't take a photographer with us where i am doing it . I thought it will cool to take a drone footage . But I don't want to be holding the controller .
I was looking around and saw Contixo drowns and they looked cool but I was curious them in general and about the F31 pocket drone. Any insights into these? Thanks!
Where do my fellow Angeleno pilots like to fly and practice? I’m mid-city, I’ll fly in some parks nearby, like Pan Pacific, but I’d love to find some more fun interesting spots, especially for FPV. Maybe the LA river?
Hope everyone has a nice weekend.
Today I was being dumb and crashed my drone into a tree. The propellers are bent at the edges. Is it unflyable until replaced?
How do I enable the hud to be seen on my phone through dji fly app? When I touch the screen this is what always pops up. Which is why I cant see other details such as battery life etc.
Is it possible to add a 4G dongle to DJI Air 3 in order to get 4G connectivity to match Smart RTH like Air 3S?
What are the stepsm

I am going to be building a small 3.5-inch quad, using the SpeedyBee F405 V3 ESC stack.
I bought this battery which has an XT30 connector, while the ESC only takes XT60, which I missed when I was researching parts.
Will I still be able to use this combination with an adapter safely? I can return the battery, but only before the 12th.
I fly professionally as an airline pilot. I've got a few quad rotors I fly. I want to get into some FPV flying.
I've watched this guys videos (1170) 💥 FPV RC Dogfight & Strafing Using Reflector Sight & Head Tracker 🧐🎯 - YouTube
And want to eventually get a setup like his. Is there a ready-to-fly kit available or something that doesn't involve a lot of customization?
Edit - after I posted this I went to Motionsic's website and saw he sells the parts to do this. Still interested in peoples opinions though.
...have to ask you questions that are irrelevant to what you will be doing? Let me explain.
The Part 107 test. I have yet to take it but I'm going to be studying for it using some study styles found here in this forum. (there some great tips and awesome encouragement found here!)
TLDR: I'm clueless about aviation terminology and concepts. I failed the sample Part 107 knowledge test twice, mostly due to questions irrelevant to drone piloting, like runway markings and tower communication. I think the test should focus more on practical drone knowledge and safety.
Need more context? ⤵️
So I know nothing of flight schools. Nothing of flight terminology and nothing of how towers communicate with pilots or what the painted lines or signage on a runway mean. I don't know about clouds and what to look out for. I have zero knowledge on dew points and such. With the maps and charts, I mean, who can't read a map. But now throw in all of the flight related data and I'm lost as to what they mean. I know of longitude and latitude. But I have no knowledge on the numbers associated with them. So when I see 101 on the longitude line and I have to find 100, but 100 is not shown on the map; I have no clue as to where it might be so I'm left guessing based on where other things are at, and might make sense. And there's more I don't know about the topic but I have common sense and can usually figure something out (or come close to it) based on common logic.
So just to see how stupid I am on this subject, I took the free sample test of 10 questions on the King Schools site and got a 68. A week or so later (didn't study, not purposely. I just had things going on) I did the full 60 questions and got a 55. Yep I failed at both. I wasn't surprised. I actually expected to fail. If I would have passed, I would have considered it luck and not knowledge.
Most of the questions that I got right were pertaining to the actual drone knowledge (which I don't have a lot of). Some of which I seen as common sense (the safety questions, ego, etc). Others within the drone topic which I didn't feel were common sense where something like, "who should register", "who doesn't need to register", "who does the pre flight check on the drone", "who speaks to the customers about safety or the flight path", etc. Questions like that, I seen as something you need to know when you're out there in field trying to do this commercially. Oh! And I got a few of those "register" questions wrong.
Most of the questions I got wrong, were about runway knowledge with what the lines and signs on the runway mean. Instrument panel with altimeter readings. The different radio frequencies that pilots will use to communicate with the tower. Map questions. Which runway to use during a cross wind of X amount of knots. And other REAL pilot related questions that a drone pilot will never encounter because they're not actually sitting in the drone taxiing on a runway, using a radio to communicate with a tower.
And it's that last part that I feel is oddly irrelevant to flying a drone commercially (aside from the map questions. I feel those are relevant). But answering questions about airport traffic patterns happening on the ground and knowing what all the lines and signage mean at the airpot, seem pointless. Especially while you're standing on the ground flying a 249gram drone miles and miles away from an airport. But, maybe some of you can open my eyes to what I'm missing with their need to put those types of questions on the test. Because it really doesn't make any sense to me. It seems like a waste of study space to me. Like, give me more questions on proper drone etiquette. What to do in certain situations. Things to be aware of. What if someone shoots at your drone or you. What if it's shot down or someone throws something at it. Actual things that a drone pilot might encounter while out there. I mean, they're testing aspiring drone pilots on what they might encounter if they were ever piloting a plane on the runway airport, so why not test us on real things one would encounter when flying a drone to record a boat, car, house, trees what ever?
My point is why not test us on things that matter in the drone world? And leave out those things that REAL pilots need to know when navigating an airport runway, communicating with a tower on a specific radio frequency, etc.
Hi drone folks, I’m looking to get a starter drone for my ten year old son.
I’m looking at £100 to spend and have the Tello and the Loolin z3.
Usage will be mainly inside and a bit of playing on the back field maybe.
Video quality doesn’t matter really, durability and fun are the main things I want. The Tello doesn’t come with a controller but I’m wondering if it’s better quality or fun to use?
If I’m overthinking it and should just get either just tell me as I know for the money it’s not going to be a serious piece of kit.
Hi r/drones and r/diydrones!
I am looking for a drone kit that is easy to use out of the box, but extensible and programmable.
Use cases: Library STEM program for teens Farm surveying and finding lost animals
Open source software is a big plus for me personally, almost a necessity. We have a budget to get started, but I will likely have to foot any ongoing costs (software licences, etc) personally.
Requirements: Easy to use out of the box for a moderately technically capable person without infinite time.
Capable of being programmed/experimented with by teens who have lots of time (if I can get them hooked). One of the participants wants to do a SLAM project, one wants to make a follow-me drone (this seems hard), another wants to do forestry surveys, someone wants to do a cinematography project using drone video with digital reconstructions of what the town looked like 200 years ago (I.e overlay a scene over the real video). Most of them are in various engineering and software classes, so we can lean on their teachers for help with some of the non-hardware stuff. Not everyone is likely to succeed, they are smart but still kids really, however if they can at least get started they will learn something and I think they will get into it.
Easy to use with QGroundControl or other mission planning software for survey work (I.e. take monthly photos along a particular path) and flyable manually for when the cows get out.
I have been using a DJI drone for the farm stuff, but it isn't programmable and it is on semi permanent loan to my friend.
I am looking at the Dexi PX4 dev kit, and I see the ModalAI Starling, but I am kind of lost on the terminology. Does it matter for this use case if we use ghost atto or ExpressLRS? What are the practical differences between a 2.4ghz and a 915mhz radio link? Is the raspberry Pi going to be enough horsepower to do much with? Is the ModalAI Voxl going to be too complicated to program? Are the cameras on the drone going to work like the DJI I am familiar with? How do I hook up a phone to see the feed? Does the video come over the same link as control, or is that a whole separate radio? If we want to add additional payloads, gimbal cameras, etc, how is that going to work? Both from a hardware and a software/video feed perspective?
I can figure all this out, but I likely won't have the budget to buy another drone for several years. The Dexi seems aimed at educators which I like, but also seems less capable then the Starling. The HolyBro kits are a lot cheaper, but don't seem to have any video on board. Are there other kits out there I should look at?
That is a lot of words. Thanks for bearing with me. I am in a small town in the US, so everything needs to be US legal.
TL/DR Any recommendations for an RTF kit that will be maximally extensible?
Hi guys, a few days ago I started to buy some elements to build my first drone. At first I wanted to buy a source one frame, for a 5" drone, but I made a mistake and bought some airforth 1404 cinewhoop 3600kv motors for my first drone. Which are incompatible with the mounting holes of the frame source one.
My question is, could I use these motors in a 4s 5" drone if I can adapt the frame to the motors.
I plan to visit Iceland and want document the trip with drone footage. What advice and warnings do you have? Small size with high image quality is a plus as I pack lightly. I've never flown a drone before. Thanks
Was on youtube and got redirected to some website called "dronesforhigher . net" wondering if its a scam or not
