CHAT DOWN, North Norfolk-style, for the over-40s

https://preview.redd.it/jqn32hgyuk0e1.png?width=1067&format=png&auto=webp&s=a3d3f8b4f01eb7470bcb3df264c8581ea85581c8

Just trying it out. A general chill out zone, with beanbags and a pipe of Pringles, for your miscellaneous chit-chat, random questions, those little references you come across that raise a wry smile but wouldn't cut it in the main sub area, your convention-breaking Rule 1 posts, deep discussions about panel beating... and some of the big questions, such as which item of cutlery is the best and why... You've got your petrol, it's fine!

Sadly we couldn't get this thread to be opened by Jet from Gladiators, but here's the next best thing, it's "Jet!" by Wings. Turn it up, North Norfolk!

I found that Mantel's main characters are scorchingly well-rendered, and the sharp-clawed machinations are presented with non-stop verve.

Funniest Thing From Alan... Ever.

After watching/listening to all of Alan's media, is there one single joke/line/scenario that always makes you laugh out loud, even after you seen/heard it over and over?

I mean laugh like it's the first time you heard it.

Mine is Alan's "Ey, you cheeky tit!!" to Simon Denton on MMM.

No matter how many times I watch it, it still makes me laugh so hard. Such a great delivery and choice of insult.

Colby, I'm your stepfather and that accords me certain rights! Yes, she's your mother, but she's also my bird! I just don't see why I should take the blame because your dad ran off! He did! He did. Colby, he's not on an oil rig, he's in the Cotswolds.

Does anyone know what this line is from?

Trying to find the episode where Alan Partridge says, "a VERY big bee" but I can't find it for the life of me. I have a gut feeling that he's monologing about something, so I'm inclined to believe it's from the From the Oasthouse audio book/podcast but there are so many episodes (tbf I might just have to go and reslisten to all seasons again...) but if anyone could help me out would be grateful!

In the footsteps of...

Am doing a Partridge Pilgrimage, and trying to get the North Norfolk sites in before Christmas. I started here.

A new Partridge discord with unique features - Wat-er-way to have a good time!

I've been thinking for a while about making a new partridge discord which takes advantage of discord commands/bots that I've been working on, and it's finally at a point where I think it's ready to use.

Through this server you have the ability to easily:

  1. create gifs of any scene in the partridge cannon (more-or-less)
  2. search for quotes from the audio books.

Examples:

Searching for a gif: https://i.imghippo.com/files/uR9924Q.webp

Searching the audiobooks: https://i.imghippo.com/files/VOxu8792DsE.webp

My hope would be that people come to play around with these tools, but stay for some great chat.

"But there is already a partridge discord, why would you make a new one? Are you on an E?!"

If the existing discord was active I would have probably tried to get these commands added there, but since it's not there didn't seem any point in doing so.

Here is the invite link: https://discord.gg/nKABACyy6d

footnote: Some people on here that also subscribe to the RSK subreddit will be familiar with scrimpton.com - this partridge discord builds on top of the work I did on that site. In terms of search it has a lot of the same features but as slash commands rather than a full website.

What is the best thing?

Last week's quick fire phone in only yielded 3 calls. My mistake, perhaps pannel beating was too narrow a topic. So today we are going to open it right out and ask 'What is the best thing? What is the best thing of all?'

So far we've had Sky+, a cup of Brazil nuts (that was amusing), livestock (valid) and wet wipes (which was a fascinating call from an elderly lady in Hebdon)
