I saw a post asking why Long Fen would hide the war from the King and I suddenly realized something. How does the king nor know about the war on the first place? I ask this question because when thinking about the post I mentioned I thought how Long Fen just needed to keep the king ignorant since the city has been untouched by war for centuries, but it hasn't. IROH managed to cross the walls and that was like 10 years before the current timeline at most. The king seems to be at least in his 30s so how can he be unaware of the war?
Thinking about it the only answer I can think of it that Iroh didn't manage to get to the inner circle where the royal palace is, it is possible since I think it was said the siege only lasted for 600 days and the army likely spent a lot of time just getting through the first wall. If that is true then it could kind of make sense since the show explicitly stated the king had never left the palace. However, even then I find it super strange that the palce wouldn't have taken measures when Iroh crossed the outer wall. Plans for evacuation, preparing for a defensive battle, at least have the people be completely terrified... SOMETHING.
I don't know why I never thought of this, never thought about the fact that Iroh's siege and the king being in Ba Sing See happened at the same time.
What the titel says! Who are your favourite and least favourite characters?
My favourite characters are Iroh, Suki, Sokka and Momo ( Momo might be my favourite of them all )
My least favourite character is Ozai the only thing he wants is power.
Both of these shows handled the censorships they were given very well, especially Korra, but I think having just a slightly higher age demographic, while not making it strictly for adults, would be the ideal compromise. I don't want a full-fledged adult TV-MA series, but I would appreciate one that is geared toward older audiences and can explore more mature themes. Most kids can still watch TV-14 content without any problems, but even a PG rating would give them much more freedom with their storytelling capabilities. The majority of viewers are at least teenagers or older, so it would appeal to the majority of people while still being appropriate for kids who can handle more mature content, which I believe most kids can since many kids watch content intended for older audiences. What are your thoughts? Do you think it's a good middle ground that raises the age demographic without completely alienating the original one?
So I'm planning on doing an avatar AU swap based on a what if toph was the avatar and so far it looks like this:
raava=vatoo
sokka=zuko
yun=kyoshi (I'm planning to change the avatar cycle too)
hakoda=ozai
more ideas?
Any one know if any things changed in popularity?
What's the point of him doing this to Kuei?
Am I the only one who majorly loves enemies to lovers or opposites attract? I love Katara and Zuko, Draco and Hermione, Harry and Luna (I suppose in a way they could be opposite? Or would that be more Luna and Ron?) Anyway, for those that love the aforementioned couple, share with me the first time while watching the show that you started rooting for them. What kind of fanfics starring them, do you gravitate towards? Have any of you fans tried writing fanfiction of your own?
Thanks for reading!
P.S. Kataang fans.. I pretend that didn't even happen, but I respect your choices!
My boyfriend and I made a last minute halloween costume for a birthday/halloween party.
I made his robe and did his make-up! Most of the clothes we had bought from the shops, while his shirt underneath was a roman costume lol.
My Mai isn’t totally accurate, but I still think it’s pretty cute. My boyfriend said to post it here cause he felt cool as Zuko.
Not gonna write much down here, but I’ve been rewatching some episodes of ATLA randomly and this thought just occurred to me. If Zuko had a scar, and they already know he changed his hair, how come no one recognized him ?
It always interested me the extents that bending could stretch to outside of the ‘standard’ elements (lightning, metal for eg). Knowing that there are minerals and metals in human bones (calcium & zinc off the top of my head but I imagine there are traces of others) do you think Earth benders could potentially “bonebend”?
I kinda imagine a powerful Earth bender & Water bender going to war with each other but bone & blood bending their armies into a zombie-esque puppet show battle. Dark af for the atla universe ik but my brain thinks this way sometimes 🙃
We all know Iroh’s influence profoundly changed Zuko. But if Azula had a mentor to guide her, someone to support her and offer a different perspective, who could have filled that role?
There's a few reasons why he can't detach himself.
One he has a family that depends on him, he can't just detach from that.
Two is he has a lot of responsibilities. Rebuilding the entire air nomad people is placed squarely on his shoulders, how can he possibly forgo that.
He essentially has to babysit the avatar since the red lotus went after them I think. Possibly the balance of the whole world is literally resting on his shoulders.
The avatar has a shortcut with having an ultra powerful spirit literally inhabit their body, so they always have an edge in spirituality even with all that responsibility.
The air nomads are usually pretty calm nonchalant people who lead simple lives, tenzin isn't that, dudes the most uptight guy ever likely because of all the obligations and responsibilities he has to take up.
I mean, seriously. He won with the avatar state, the bending cheat code that comes with the automatic skill boost of literally every avatar before you. He could have spent that time picking his nose and riding giant fish and it would have accomplished the same thing.
Here's the setup: zuko in his fire nation uniform and talks to his father that the avatar is still alive this makes fire lord ozai angry and zuko tells him that he needs him to stop the avatar. And aang toph and sokka find zuko and fire lord ozai and aang triggers his avatar state for getting betrayed by zuko.
Hey guys I'm just planning for the orchestral show tomorrow and I was wondering do VIP guests get Early Access? Sometimes I know that's quite common of a perk for VIP but I'm not sure with this. I thought I read they did but maybe I'm mistaken. Was there early access at any of the other shows?
So I remembered that this game was supposed to release to the App Store this month and went to go check the date and saw that it now says February? Was there a delay that hasn’t been announced? I couldn’t seem to find anything when I googled it or on Reddit, anyone else know anything?
What are your top 5 favorite fights?
One of the best things about the Avatar series is the fights. Some are massive set pieces where hundreds of fighters are going against each other. There are epic duels between the strongest benders in the world. Or our favorite protagonist going against against your average no name fodder. I wanted to rank my favorite fights.
While I love massive set pieces as much as the next guy, I wanted to rank some of the more intimate fights. Though don't let my parameters affect your rankings.
The Crystal Catacombs: This fight is awesome. We see how far Katara and Zuko have progressed as fighters as well as how Aangs new abilities don't translate into fighting prowess. I think this set up the Last Agni Kai well as it showed us how Azula struggles against Katara's more defensive style. The only thing that brings it down is how awful Aang fights in this battle. This fight has plenty of low lights for the young Avatar.
Mako, Bolin & Kai vs. The Dai Li: This is probably the shortest fight on the list clocking in at less than a minute. But it is intense, the music is great, and the bending brothers work great together in this comfined space. Kai also got his vengeance on the Dai Li agent that was mistreating him, which was very satisfying.
Aang & Appa vs. Zuko and Lila: This fight is often forgotten about since it was in a pretty lackluster season 1 episode, but it is my favorite fight in ATLA. It showcased both combatants' skills, and the fighters were evenly matched. It was intense, yet the small intermission with Iroh being Iroh brought some levity. To add to this, watching Appa straight up fighting the Shirshu was fun and added something a little extra to the fight.
Korra vs. Kuvira: This is my favorite season ending duel. Korra and Kuvira battling it out in the control room of the giants mech was awesome. It was intense, the music was great, and neither woman showed any desire to back down. The fight being in a metal dome also allowed Kuvira to keep up with Korra, so I thought the environment played really well into the overall fight.
Korra & Lin vs. The Lieutenant and Equalist: This is my favorite fight in both series. We got to see what a metal bender like Lin can really do, and how she used her cables in this fight was awesome to watch. Then you have Korra, who is an absolute beast kicking ass with only firebending. Then you have the amazing music and the cracking glass that adds so much tension to the fight and foreshadow it's ending. This fight really tied together a very goof first half of a season.
This ranking is highly subjective. Please let me know what you think and what your list is.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it to the Nov 23rd show so I'm selling my tickets.
They're listed on ticketb@st@rd here: https://my.ticketmaster.com/ds/vQGA7XN2Ze/event/090060B7DA4E6965 but I will sell at face value ($150 ea) if connected through here.
I'd much rather a fan get them and ticketb@st@rd not make any more $ from the sale if possible.
Please pm me if interested.
Yes it would probably include and many wanted and (I would) love to see the story of zaheer and his team first kidnapping attempt on Young Korra but it should be focus on not just the entire order but also their founder Xai Bau.
In fact, if I was the author, especially someone who read the Darth Plagueis novel I would probably make Xai Bau the Hego Damask/Darth Plagueis type character essentially no ones that he is the founder of the red lotus or at least the group other then he is a former member of the white lotus but is still respect as a political philosopher hence why he is allow in certain circles like the elites even meeting Team Avatar a couple of times. In fact I would have Unalaq being the personal student of Xai Bau essentially their dynamic is similar to Palpatine and Plagueis from the Darth Plagueis novel.
Much like how the Darth Plagueis novel helps re-contextualisation the prequel trilogy mainly TPM and ATC this red lotus prequel story could reframe and elevate some of the more controversial or questionable aspects of The Legend of Korra and make them interesting
Besides having Unalaq developed more by making him the main student of Xai Bau. But also Xai Bau was the one that encouraged Unalaq or gave him the idea to manipulate events with the bandits/barbarians and the conflict in the spiritually sacred land to get Tonraq banished.
Heck Xai Bau would still be alive during the events of 158 AG the year that Korra was almost kidnapped by the Red Lotus albeit he is kinda retired from the public by this point essentially he is the man in shadows (like the role of retired emperor.) while Unalaq is the leader of the entire red lotus.
Also Unalaq killed Xai Bau in dinner as they were celebrated their plans before finishing off he will told Xai Bau that his goal will become the Dark Avatar. (This wasn't part of Xai Bau plan yes he wants to release Vaatu but still.)
I also love a scene where Unalaq meets a young Tarrlok getting to their interactions since their character designs look similar?
Because we know he was representative in the republic city council while Unalaq was Chief of both south and north so I like to think that Unalaq had something to do with appointing Tarrlok as representative in the Council for the North.
Now I don't tarrlok was a red lotus member or he knows of Unalaq plans of becoming the Dark Avatar. I just think that Unalaq saw the ambition of Tarrlok and power Hungary especially knowing that Republic City problems is growing as well such as crime rates going high and Aang’s health becoming in decline. I like to think that he saw that Tarrlok wants what’s best for him and his tribe. Who like many from the North, he supports unity between the North and South, but only under Northern rule. With his Pro-north agenda in mind Unalaq decided to appoint Tarrlok as his representative to makes thing more difficult for The United Republic and allow the City to focus internally while he is planning to become the Dark Avatar.
In terms of how ties back to book 1-4 of Korra Xai Bau and the Red lotus being the ones who manipulating events in the Avatar world that lead to Kora's era.
For the events of book 1 have Xai Bau and the Red Lotus being the ones sowing seeds of discontent, funding anti-bender activism, and covertly supporting various non-bender groups and leaders. Their goal was to create an environment ripe for a populist, anti-bender movement to take hold. I know there is theory that Amon was a former red lotus But I like the idea of him being more a happy accident like regardless even if Amon and the Equalist movement were around an idea for anti-bender revolution was going to happen just that Amon come in at the right place at the right time. Kinda like how the Dance of the Dragons were inevitable or better comparison the events and cause for WW1 as Europe was a powder cake ready to explode.
I always get the sense that Yakone himself was his own thing like he wasn't funded by the Red Lotus or anybody. He just simply was the Al Capone of Republic City. Heck his bending was taken away by Aang in the 120s AG which in real life when Al Capone was active in 1920s. Have the red lotus activity started in late 130s to early 140s AG when not only Toph resigned due to what happened to her daughter but also Aang health was in decline as well as Sokka becoming Chieftain of the South after his father Hakoda death leaving a power vacuum of politics within the republic city council and the police force and that when when the Red Lotus begin manipulating the tensions between bender and non bender as i kinda assumed that Toph, Aang, and Sokka were the big triumvirate of stability for republic city given their political roles at the time of Yakone’s trial.
For the events of book 3 and 4 obviously you have Xai Bau and Unalaq recruiting Zaheer and his team into the Red Lotus but also in this book I would have Xai Bau having a business relationship with Hou-Ting the Earth Queen similar to Hego Damask/Darth Plagueis business relationship/partnership with Gardulla the Hutt but much like that partnership it also fall part in the later years. (Which makes her death very ironic.) have it be this partnership in which not allow Hou-Ting becomes the Earth Queen but also lead to the reformation of the Dai Li, maybe his advise for her where she convinces her to manipulated the political system in Repubkic City in terms of diplomatic where she sent someone (the earth kingdom representative from boon 1 who was in the council.) to sabotage the city from within and make it easier for her to retake the city, or at least keep the city occupied with itself so it couldn't expand outward.
For some reason much like the Sifo Dyas moment where Plagueis provided the funds for him to commissioned the clones on Kamino I would have Xai Bau being the one who funded the resources that Suyin Beifong needed for the construction of Zaofu yes she is from the Beifong family and yes her husband or at this point boyfriend or finance Baatar Sr is an architect but the reason why I include it is because it will be the moment that Xai Bau introduce Suyin to Aiwei for the first time who at this point would be Xai Bau's young accountant. At least when it comes comes to both funding her city or at least give her the amount of money she needed or being the one that granted her the land that Zaofu will build and being the one who introduced her to Aiwei?
Part of the reason why he did that is because after his fall out with the Earth Queen (in which he actually funded or at least allow the rise of bandits/barbarians in the Earth Kingdom That we see in book 3 Although most of it was Earth Queen’s terrible reign.) he recognizing of Suyin hatred and plan to build a city Not to mention, having an independent city would probably have been a sign of sorts. Where when the earth Queen died then the earth kingdom will fell into anarchy with independent states.
Like I said But overall not only it would ties everything together. but also kinda make some of the criticisms that were place on Korra in a new and much better light. Kinda like how Darth Plagueis book did by reframing the Prequel Trilogy?
But what do you think of this idea let me know in the comments below?
One of my friends brought up that healing takes a lot of focus, but still. I think it’s a really interesting concept.
She says she can’t read or see pictures but I don’t think that’s entirely true. When you use a pencil, after a while, the tip gets smalls, that’s why we have sharpener. and when you write on paper the pencil puts the grey stuff (don’t know name) on the papers. if You draw on an entire page. The paper becomes slightly thicker. Because if you zoom in, you see that it doesn’t color the paper but on top of the paper, same thing with paint too, because if you keep painting a room it gets smaller. But when things are printed, it’s just paper, no pen and no paint, just writing on the paper. So I feel like toph should be able to read. What do you think?
