Quinn

When do you think Quinn started to fall for Carrie? He didn’t like or trust her at all in the beginning

Sassy Saul

“So tell me what’s so important it couldn’t wait?”

“Abu Nazir, David, remember him? Two horns, long tail, strong scent of sulfur?”

I just choked laughing. I love when Saul is sassy. What’s your fave sassy Saul moment?

Finished watching the season 8 finale

Last night I finished watching Homeland's final episode (s8 finale). Now that I've seen every episode from s1-8, I am overall satisfied with how the show ends w/Saul & Carrie.

The only few issues I had with season 8 was with how the writers brought back Haaqani & Yevgeny Gromov. It was difficult trying to feel any sympathy towards Haaqani & Gromov. Haaqani's execution was terrible and tough to watch but this was also the same Taliban leader that invaded a US embassy & killed Farah. Shot his own nephew in the face. He also set up innocent people by allowing an airstrike to bomb a wedding with his relatives just to fake his own death.

Theory: Issa was not Nazir son

Some may not understand me here. I believe Issa was not Abu Nazir real son, but planted as one because Nazir got the wrong coordinates deliberately sent to cia so the school was droned instead of his home. THAT was how he completely turned Brody. What else was the point of Issa? Nazir knew his death would be it. Brody was ready after that.

Recall, each time Brody wavered, Nazir would tell him, REMEMBER ISSA. The reporter told him so he would believe she knew, Nazir by video , after he went for groceries and snatched by his people, etc. Yes a terror leader would make kids collateral damage, they are bad people with a mission. And yes Both Sides do it.

Homeland joke (dark humour)

Sergeant brody followed Abu Nazire because he was trying to find a soul to fit in his body after it failed with the marines!

Season 6 and season 7 reflect some timeline of the IRA.

There's a weird thing I noticed yesterday thinking about my play at uni. The season 6 and season 7 terrorist group against the government has a parallel with the ira.

Think of Brett okeefe as mac Stoifan. Lots of people were arrested and then came a mass murder who killed off Peter quinn ( RIP :( miss you) which was bloody Sunday. During bloody Sunday the killing of an Mi5 officer occurred but not revealed to the public until 2010 when an official document was released. I'm betting that Brett o keefe (don't spoil it im s7 e4) will be arrested around 50 days after the killing of Peter quinn. The immediate arrests link nicely also.

If you Google the ira around the lead up and the fall of bloody sunday then hopefully you'll understand. Only difference is this is set in America.

There’s no other shows like Homeland

I seriously tried to watch other shows that people recommend like The Americans, The diplomat but I found them to be boring or not as good acting as the main actors on Homeland.

Homeland is/was on another level when it comes to storytelling, acting and the music.

Carrie's "Faces"

Misleading title maybe..

Props to the actress. How does one person look so different and dispalys so many emotions using their face! Also get a crazy lady vibe across the screen from the emotions she displays on her face.

There are times im not even sure its the same person or a standin...

Anyone else notice Jody?

In S1E1 when Jessica arrives home from Mike’s apartment after their date.

Chris was playing COD or whatnot on Xbox and when Jessica walks in. Chris/Dana werent expecting her home home so early from a night out at the movies with her friend “Jody”

Jody is a name/slang in the military for a guy who sleeps with your wife while deployed.

Think it was an accident or on purpose?

Or an inside joke between Mike and Jessica about a made up friend named Jody 🤷‍♀️

Edit: English

Brody's family: why

I'm rewatching the entire season for the third time (healthy, I know)... and at the end of S2, I was so thrilled to be done with the Brody family (specifically Dana). Then, S3 starts and I remembered about 30% of the first several episodes follow Dana through her mental breakdown and gallivanting around with her twerp emo boyfriend .

I'm on S3E4, and maybe there's something I've forgotten... but couldn't S3 have been just fine without all these sidebars on the Brody family? Hell, maybe even S1 and S2 as well.

I'm sure the actress who plays Dana is a wonderful person but her in this role is just...

*claws eyes out*

Carrie ffs

Just finished S3 and I need to vent. Carrie (whilst brilliant) is so jarring. I understand this is the brilliance of the character but christ she is irritating so erratic and all over the place messing up other peoples lives and mission plans.

Modern music carrie would love?

The one I'm suggesting is Raye because she seems to be like jazz and gives off erratic untamable woman which I love so much!!

It is literally so cool. I love her so much.

I'm just seeking new music really!

Also I wore my homeland t-shirt today I got from etsy :))

Love/Hate Dar Adal

So I recently started watching the show from the beginning for the first time less than a month ago. Im at mid part of season 7.

Dar Adal is the only character that's made me have a love/hate relationship feeling toward the character. I couldn't stand watching the villain side of him come out in season 6. Every episode made me despise him more & more. Then by the s6 finale it turned out he wasn't 100% evil & may have been right in some ways (except him being a "dirty old man." That I can't accept. Yuck lol)

Season 7 now makes me miss his presence on the show just as much as Quinn's. Anyone else have a similar love/hate attitude for F. Murray's brilliant performance as the sinister Dar Adal?

The last movie/TV show you watched gets a crossover with Homeland. How does the plot go?

I watched 24, so a possible team up with Jack Bauer, Chloe O'Brian, Tony Almeida, Michelle Dessler, Curtis Manning, Edgar Stiles and Bill Buchannan with Saul, Quinn, Farah, Max Vergil and Carrie.

Homeland has a sense of humor

Possible Spoilers

Okay but just a little. I’ve rewatched the show a number of times, and when an episode gets boring I read snail mail or do stuff on the computer, like ya do on a rewatch. This last run through I saw two things that made me almost choke on my coffee. And I’m sorry I don’t know which episodes they were in but here goes.

  1. Saul is stuck in his office and goes to a cabinet looking for something to eat and finds peanut butter and crackers, goes back to his desk and pulls out a ruler to spread the peanut butter. Laughed MAO, cause I won’t tell you what I’ve used to spread peanut butter on a cracker in a pinch.

  2. Carrie’s in her apartment, in the bathroom, and uses a pregnancy test after a pee. Looks at the results, opens a drawer next to the toilet, and puts the test in the drawer among what looks like about twenty other tests. LMAO, what the hell was she saving them for?

Even a small laugh in an intense drama like Homeland is welcome. Notice any laughs while watching?

Jess and Maggie

Am I the only one super annoyed because the stereotypical portrayal of Jess and Maggie as GOOD WOMEN ? Not criticizing the actors, I’m sure they are phenomenal in doing what the writers wanted. But damn I can’t watch more of them, have to fast forward when I rewatch

Probably an unpopular opinion about the ending, but...

I wanted to see Saul track down and kill Carrie. Yeah yeah, Carrie's long term goals were always for good, but there was waaaay to much collateral damage to basically get away scott free.

I definitely didn't hate the ending, I'm happy with it, but i believe there's no way Saul would forgive her or trust her ever again.

Also Saul's asset would have given him Intel of the box, cause she saw it in the US. Problem solved. But psycho blonde went and ruined that.

I'm giving away 3 Steam keys for my Homeland-style interactive fiction game "There's Always a Madman: Fight or Flight" that releases on Steam in just two days

Hi - my name is Adam, and I'm the solo developer behind the spy thriller interactive fiction game There's Always a Madman: Fight or Flight (Steam page here). To celebrate the game's release coming up on March 22nd, I'm giving away three copies of my game to the fine folks of this subreddit. The three winners will receive their copy of the game tomorrow March 21st, one day before the game's release to the general public March 22nd!

To be entered in this giveaway, all you have to do to enter is leave a comment below with the code phrase "Peter Quinn." That doesn't have to be your entire message (you can say other things as well), but you do need to include that phrase to be entered. Tomorrow, I will randomly select three commenters who use the secret code phrase. These three lucky commenters will each receive one copy of the game.

About "There's Always a Madman: Fight or Flight"

There's Always a Madman: Fight or Flight is a single-player spy thriller interactive novel where you step into the shoes of the suave secret agent Franklin Benjamin. In this high-octane, two-hour satire of James Bond and Mission: Impossible, you'll drive fast cars, seduce beautiful women, take on false identities, and do whatever is necessary to save the world.

But as a secret agent, your best weapon isn't your firearm - it's your quick thinking and your quick wit. Because there's always a madman, and you're the best agent we've got!

The game releases March 22, 2024, but you can wishlist and play a free demo on Steam right now right here! The Steam page has a trailer and all the intel for your mission to stop this madman.

There's Always a Madman: Fight or Flight also plays well on the Steam Deck in my own testing. Here is a company blog post with tips to get the most out of the game on the Deck straight from me, the developer: One Easy Step to Play the Free Demo of There's Always a Madman on the Steam Deck.

Why make this game

I believe there are not enough great spy video games out there. Sure, there are plenty of games where you shoot a hundred enemies each level and do a few spy things along the way, but I want to make a true spy game - a game where the main character carries a gun and is empowered to kill when necessary but largely uses their wit to get out of a sticky situation. In other words, a game where you’re not lining up headshots but instead deciding whether to fight vs. run, to trust a companion vs. go it alone, to make a quip vs. stay on high alert, etc.

With this in mind, I feel there’s a place for a spy thriller game that plays more like a visual novel than a standard shooter (i.e. it relies on careful consideration of options presented to succeed in your mission rather than on quick-trigger reflexes to mow down everyone in your path). Surely there is great enjoyment in stepping into the shoes of a secret agent and seeing if you have the intelligence and wherewithal to accomplish the mission, save the day, and perhaps even get the girl.

The game is text-based. This is because James Bond, Jason Bourne, Jack Reacher, and Jack Ryan all started off in text format with novels. And as they say, the book is always better, so I think a more book-like experience works for this game. That said, although the game is text-based like a novel, an emphasis is placed on visuals and music to set the appropriate mood for each scene, changing based on whether you're in a safe location or you're exposed to danger. And of course, YOU get to decide exactly how to handle each situation, unlike a book or film with a set path that you observe passively. Here, the success or failure of the mission is up to you and you alone.

Similar games for reference

For reference, here are some similar games to help you get a further sense for what There's Always A Madman is like: GoldenEye 007 (and other James Bond games like Everything or Nothing), Mission: Impossible N64, Alpha Protocol, Hitman games, Splinter Cell games, Henchman Story, Agent A: A Puzzle in Disguise, Framed, I Expect You To Die, Batman Telltale Series, The Wolf Among Us, Agent 64: Spies Never Die

It also draws inspiration from non-video game sources such as: James Bond, Mission: Impossible, 24, Get Smart, Austin Powers, Archer, Jack Ryan, Jack Reacher, the “Threat Level Midnight” episode of The Office, and the “You Only Move Twice” episode of The Simpsons.

Please wishlist and play the free demo of the game on Steam here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2390500/Theres_Always_a_Madman_Fight_or_Flight

And please remember to leave a comment below with the code phrase mentioned above for a chance to win a free copy of the game.

After all, if you don't save the world, then there can't be a sequel!
