Agroforestry is an integrated approach of using the interactive benefits from combining trees and shrubs with crops and/or livestock. It combines agricultural and forestry technologies to create more diverse, productive, profitable, healthy, and sustainable land-use systems. A narrow definition of agroforestry is "trees on farms."

Advice for an up and coming agroforester?

Hi, interwebz.

My in-laws are starting a new tree plantation for Paulownia over in Eastern Europe. They want me to be part of their not-so-small start-up business and now I'm trying to catch up by learning all I can about how to grow, harvest, process, and sell Paulownia lumber. Problem is that my in-laws aren't great with English and I'm not great with their language, so I can't always ask the questions I want to. Enter Reddit.

- What general advice do you have for someone just getting into the industry?
- What industrial-scale equipment would be recommended for turning Paulownia into lumber for furniture, construction, and fencing materials?
- How do you find buyers for your product? Do you just cold-call random stores that might need lumber?
- How do you establish a market where there might not be one?

Any and all advice would be appreciated. Thanks, interwebz.

Any examples of agroforestry land zoning?

In investigating land for a potential operation, I've become more conscious of municipal land zoning. Obviously zoning restrictions vary greatly from place to place, but I'd love to know if there is somewhere a dedicated "agroforestry" zone , and if so, how the rules differ from existing agricultural zones.

Career in Agroforestry

Hi,

What does a career in agroforestry look like? Types of jobs available and their tasks, earning potential, job opportunities etc

I have a masters in food science and don't want to work in food but want to more closely with nature and conservation. Agroforestry seems like a good intersection between the two. I have a bit of savings left and am wondering if I should extend my degree to do some courses in agroforestry or sustainable agriculture.

I have been studying for a while and would also just like to get stuck in a job and start earning a bit more. So unsure if 1) the career path change is the right choice and 2) formally studying it is necessary or if I can use my current MSc as a base and add on online courses in my own time

What could be wrong with the blackberry? Has anyone encountered something like this?

https://ibb.co/DfVp8Nq At the beginning of ripening, the berry discolors, shows almost forced ripening symptoms, then dries up and either stays on the bush or falls off, but no mold develops. It is certain that it is not a mite or a fungus. There was also a laboratory plant examination, but it did not show anything.
