Fun things to do in Dallas w my 20 year old son

Just curious if anyone had ideas of fun things to do when I’m visiting my son (20) at college in Dallas. There are no football games that weekend, and he’s too young to drink, but I want to make it fun for him. Thank you!

Family visiting from Nepal, best Wagyu steak?

Title. They requested, for the first time in their life, to try a good piece of steak (they're Hindu so beef is normally no-no). This would probably be a once in a lifetime thing so I want to treat them to the best steak they've ever had.

What are your recommendations? They've hears of Australian Wagyu and heard mixed reviews on it. I've explained the difference between Aussie and Japanese

Music Hall at Fair Park… anyone know if there’s free parking for concerts?

I recall going to a show at Dos Equis Pavilion and there was free parking. Anyone know if it’s the same situation for the Music Hall?

Thanks.

Need a vet, cost friendly.

We have a small dog that we are pretty sure got in the trash and ate something he shouldn't, unfortunately this could be anything from toilet paper to feminine pads.

I wanted to see if ppl had a suggestion on reducing cost for him.

Can I sign up for pet insurance or is it to late?

Would anyone know a vet maybe further out of town that is good and charges more reasonable prices?

I have taken him to after hours vet they have given him nausea meds and hydration. He has eaten some and drank some, he is doing better but is about 40 percent himself. I took him back to the after hours vet again, and they were super nice, they rehydrated him again did a sonogram at no cost. But x-rays were going to be super expensive and couldn't do any surgeries if they saw something. At best just make him vomit or refer me to some place.

He is able to urinate and has pooped very little, I am trying to monitor it. He may pass what it was but until he is drinking regularly and eating better with better bowl movements we are concerned.

It is 9:13 am and he is eating on his own slowly, I have been trying to give him small cups of water to help him get fluids.

Money is tight, this is my daughter's dog, and she has special needs. He essentially provides physical therapy without the cost of it officially. She doesn't handle stress well, her brain is literally impacted from her conditions.

But right now it is a matter of spending rent money on the dog and we are trying to limit that, we just moved to get my daughter out of a problem home.

We are north of Dallas in Garland.

Thank everyone so much.

Parents visiting for the first time, what to do when it's raining outside?

I moved here a year ago, and my parents (60M, 58F) are visiting me. It's their first time in Texas. They arrive on Saturday and are here through Wednesday. My dad is in his mid-life crisis/reliving a childhood he didn't have era and so he really wanted to go to Six Flags but I'm not sure if that's going to happen depending on Sunday's weather.

I'll likely take them to some museums and shopping at some outlets or malls but I'd love other recommendations for indoor things we can do/see. Thank you!

Single moms looking for safe and kid friendly apartment (Dallas, TX)

I am 22 year old single-mom with a 2 1/2 year old and my cousin is a 23 year-old with a 3 year-old, we are looking for apartment recommendation in Dallas, TX. We are from Lee County FL but I have been living in Dallas since April 2023, my cousin is relocating from our home state noted above. We want to live somewhere safe and quiet with parks close by (preferably on-site) and easy access to a major highway. Our budget is $1,500/mo for rent. Having to drive to entertainment is fine for us. We prefer the following features: white walls, tile/carpet flooring, island kitchen, open design layout, walk-in closets, attached patio/balcony, pool, attached fitness center (gym), elevators. Where should we live? Thanks in advance!

Moving to DFW

My wife and I will be moving up to Dallas in a couple months. She took a job in Irving (office on North Royal Lane, just northeast of the airport). We're 37, no kids and coming up from Austin. We're looking to buy (under $400k). We have a dog, we're active, love music and food. Areas around the Trammell Crow Park and Bishop Arts area seem to check the boxes for food, arts, areas to walk, access to live music in the Deep Ellum area, etc.

Basically trying to balance her daily commute to Irving with access to things we'll enjoy in Dallas. Coming from Austin we understand traffic can be terrible but in a perfect world she'd have a 45 min or less commute to work and we'd still be 15-20 mins from music venues, place to run, take our dog out, climbing gyms (I see Bouldering Project and Movement Design District).

I'm seeing some houses that seem to fit the bill east of Bishop Arts and just east of 35E but google maps says "35 mins to 1 hr" for rush hour commutes. Any thoughts or suggestions? Should we figure that east of Bishop Arts and just east of 35E would be routinely closer to an hour commute? Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

Relocating

Hello!

I 22F will be relocating to Dallas for work and I’m looking for neighborhood recommendations. I like the city feel of downtown Dallas ,but the area is not the safest. I’m prioritizing safety and in unit washer/dryer. I’ll be working in Cockrell Hill so I’m looking for a 20-30 min commute max. A gym that is open 24/7 would be a plus. I’d be willing to give up downtown living for safety and maybe a nice city view from afar. I am more on the social side either networking or hitting up a local bar I’d like to be in an area with nightlife uber distance away. Let me know any recommendations as I will be in Dallas next week touring apartments.

ISO Dallas podiatrist recommendations

Hi! I sprained my ankle pretty badly when hiking at Cedar Ridge a few weeks ago. It's worse than I thought as I'm still having discomfort, so I think I need to get it checked out. Looking for recommendations in Dallas proper ideally but I don't mind driving a little further north if needed (Richardson/Plano). I have BCBS through my employer. TIA :)

Urgent: Moved to Texas and need to register vehicle

We moved / drove down our vehicle to Texas from Michigan on Oct 2 and have scheduled an appointment at DPS for Nov 4 to get a Texas DL. Thought we would be able to do everything including the registration at the appointment there itself.

However, it seems we need to “register” our vehicle in Texas within 30 days of moving. For this, the DMV website states we need to take our vehicle to a certified Vehicle Inspection station and obtain a passing Texas inspection. Have to also bring insurance card with you. (We have Progressive)

After this, it says: To get your Texas license plates and registration sticker, visit your local county tax-assessor collector office.

Should we be doing the “registration” today itself so as to not pass the 30 day deadline? Would having the insurance still attached to Michigan be an issue?

Anything else we should be doing/need to know at this point?

Thanks in advance, DFW!

Do I need to own a car to get a driver license?

Just relocated to DFW from out of country. I’m getting all my requirements ready to get a drivers license. I was told I need to submit my car registration and insurance. Do I really need to submit those docs if I don’t own a car yet?

I couldn’t get a straight answer so asking here.

Recommendation for where to stay for upcoming work trip

I will be flying into DFW and have work for two days around the colleyville/bedford area during the day with onsite arrival around 8 or 9am. Would like to be somewhere that I can walk to restaurants after work is done. I most likely wont have time to do any sightseeing since its a work trip so being downtown in either Dallas or Forth worth isn't a have to have. My goal is to keep commute times minimal while still having some decent nightlife/ food options.

Im considering the area right near the canal walk and Honda music factory venue but open to suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Apartment suggestions

Hey all! My husband and I (23 and 22) are moving to the Dallas area in January and I’m in desperate need of some suggestions on where to look for apartments. Our budget is around $2000, I’d be willing to spend a little more for something spectacular but would prefer to stay under that. We have a dog (a little toy poodle) and walking him is part of our daily routine, so I’d love to be somewhere that’s safe to walk around. I’d also like to feel safe in general wherever we end up. I know Dallas is a big city so it won’t be perfect but are there any areas that we should absolutely avoid (or any that you love)? (I’d also like to mention that we’re willing to be outside of Dallas as well, just want to be in the general vicinity) We’re coming out in November to find a place so any advice is greatly appreciated!

Are there apartments in Plano, Richardson, Frisco or Allen that will rent to a person with a criminal record?

Im trying my best to move back home from Virginia to be closer to my mom who has been having health problems but it’s been really hard finding a decent place with my record.

I have a dui from 2017 and 2022 and in 2023 a class c misdemeanor family violence from pushing a physically abusive x gf off of me in Virginia. I would’ve gone to jail for that last one if my ex gf didn’t admit to being physically abusive towards me for the entirety of our relationship over text message the day after it happened. Text messages which I still have saved. I’m not trying to justify it, I wish I had never pushed her. I’m on unsupervised probation (good behavior) until 2025 for that.

I’m 34 have a 720 credit score and make 75k a year working in hvac. I have a lot of good references from previous employers, coworkers and friends. I’m trying not to pay over 1500$ a month for a 1br but I just can’t find anyone who will give me the time of day. I get it though.

I have a great job lined up if I can find a place. Main goal is to be in a place where my work truck won’t get broken into and my tools stolen. I’m a little discouraged right now but I know I’m not a victim and I know Ive made my bed. Any help appreciated.

Similar music venues

Reaching out to find some clubs/music venues similar to Starck Club, Club One, Aqua Lounge, Beauty Bar, etc. places with good vibes only. Bonus if I can get a martini, sit on a couch and vibe on the crazy crowd and insanely loud music simultaneously.

Apartment Recommendations around Uptown Dallas

I've been living in McKinney for 2 years and I'm looking to move near the Uptown area of Dallas. I'm okay with surrounding areas like Highland Park , Lower Greenville as well. I will be getting a 1B1B apartment, budget is at the most $2000.

I would like to prioritize proximity to Katy Trail or any other good trails. I've been trying to go hiking to Cedar Ridge every weekend so being able to get on 75 or DNT would help me get there faster. Having good restaurants and social places within walkable distance would be great. Given the number of hailstorms, I would prefer having a closed parking structure. I'm not big on apartment amenities, so as long as the maintenance and pest situation is not too bad, I'm okay. I'd probably need to move around March 2025, so no real rush.

Any apartment recommendations based on these criteria would be appreciated. Thank you!

So sorry if this is a really stupid question but this is my first time airport parking at DFW. 1. Is it safe? I will be gone for 2 days and will make sure I clear my car. 2. Along with the fee to park, will I have to pay the gate tolls to enter and exit the airport?? Thank you!!

Moving to Dallas next Spring! Need recommendation on where to move

Hello guys,

I will be moving to Dallas next April, and I would like to know your opinion on where would be the best place to live in. These are my main considerations:
--> I enjoy the urban vibe, so I would prefer living Downtown than in the Suburbia for example.
--> I am passionate about running, I run A LOT. So the place I move in should be accesible to running trails, or pedestrianized roads.
--> Commute time is very important to me. I will be working in Las Colinas, and I would like to keep the commute lower than 40 minutes. \—> My budget is up to 2k

Thanks a lot!

Recommendations for Live Music in Dallas / Arlington?

Hey guys! I'm flying down to see Linkin Park in Arlington on Friday, November 8th. It'll be my first time in Texas. We're seeing the Cowboys game on the 10th as well!

Our hotel is kind of halfway between Dallas and Arlington - just looking for recommendations for places to go / things to do in the area. We have the Saturday night through to the Monday night all without plans. Would love to see some live music if there are any areas similar to Broadway in Nashville. Or any historic / creative areas that are nice to walk around / grab a meal in!

Thank you!

Free Meeting Space

Hello! I am a committee lead for a non-profit organization and am looking for a location to host an in-person meeting this Saturday for 6-8 people. We will need space for our laptops and WiFi to allow a virtual component for members who can’t make it in-person. Irving or Grand Prairie would be the ideal middle point to meet.

I’m considering a boba/coffee cafe or a Panera bread. I would really appreciate any other recommendations.

4600 Ross Apartment Reviews

Anyone here live at 4600 Ross that can provide me with information on how you like living there? I remember touring this property back in August 2023 and loved it but it was super expensive back then, 1600+ for 1 bedroom apartments. However, the prices have significantly dropped now to almost 1600 for 2bd2ba. Is there a catch? I value safety so I genuinely would appreciate any insights on the property.

what are some safe parking areas in downtown dallas?

i’m driving to see a concert at house of blues on friday and, to be completely honest, i’ve lived in suburbs of dallas my entire life and have no experience at all with driving to cities and figuring out parking. i was just hoping to get some insight on some of the safer parking areas near HoB so i can walk to and from the show easily and not have to worry about my car (which by all means is not nice, i’m just a very cautious person lol)!

also, pricing is not a giant concern for me if i’m parked somewhere pretty secure and close to the venue, but i will be there for probably at least 6-7 hours (no idea how late it’ll go but i’m planning for sometime around 11 or 11:30 and atm i’m planning to get there an hour or two before doors at 7) so preferably something i can stay at for that long and not be more than like $30 would be great! sorry this post is a bit long but thanks in advance for any advice!

Is there a sign that reads "Dallas"?

Hey guys, I'm visiting Texas next week and was wondering if there's a sign in the city that just say "Dallas"? My name is actually Dallas, and I thought it’d be fun to snap a picture with a sign that has my name on it. I’m guessing maybe there’s something at the airport or a big city sign somewhere, but I’d love to know if you’ve seen anything around town that would work!
