I don’t have much going on for Christmas, would rather spend it helping others in need.
Does anyone know if theirs any local volunteering events happening during Christmas?
I will be spending Christmas Eve with a small group and am looking for suggestions on a local restaurant that offers family meals to go that would be available for pickup during the day on Christmas Eve, the 24th. Not sure if any will be open that day. TIA!
Is there any mobile mechanics who can give me a price over the phone? I pulled a dumbass move, drained my trans fluid thinking it was the oil and poured more oil on top of the old. I drove 10 miles to work but I think it can be saved. Please don’t judge I know I’m an idiot
I was involved in a wreck with an 18 wheeler where he crossed into our lane and hit us with his middle tire and we ended up having to swerve to the right to get away from being crushed by his back tire. We hit the right side curb and ended up flipping the car on its head. This was on fort worth drive in denton texas on 11/22/2024. I was wondering if anybody saw what happened or even has dash cam footage??? I know we should’ve invested in a dash cam at the time but now the driver of the truck is saying we swerved into him and the police are taking his side on the wreck report. Anything helps!

Many of you may be interested to know that in the Denton County Commissioner's Court meeting this Tuesday morning, there was discussion about pulling funding or banning books at 9 public libraries.
The original meeting agenda item was basically for the renewal of an annual/routine interlocal cooperation agreement between Denton County and the 9 City libraries. The agreement allows the libraries to receive some county-provided funding each year (ranging from $12,800 going to Betty Foster library in Ponder to $62,900 allocated to Little Elm Public Library; money is allocated based on the service population of the library).
There was a registered public commenter for the agenda item (this is the process you use to speak as a member of the public on County business you have questions/comments about) who basically said (paraphrasing) "Merry Christmas! I don't understand what this agreement is; I don't like inappropriate books in my public libraries where my taxes are funding them and I don't know what the libraries on the list have in their collections, or what this agreement is, but I don't want these libraries getting any money if they have inappropriate books."
Commissioner Diane Edmonson (For Denton County precinct 4, which is most of southwest Denton plus Krum if you divide using University Dr.) responded to the comment noting that "many years ago" Denton City public libraries have opted out of receiving funding from the County because the county requires certain "parental controls" to be included on library computers. She said (about "inappropriate " books) "I do not know about the rest of your question, which is do they have any of the books that perhaps might be deemed inappropriate. That's something I think we'd like to check on and if you find anything out, we'd be glad to hear."
A second public commenter said that "every library in Denton County does have inappropriate books in their library" and said that they provided the Commissioners with a list of these libraries. She said they are doing research this week to see if these books have been pulled from the libraries and explained that this is "something they are fighting for in the state legislature to make sure that the material that these children are reading are age appropriate and are not sexually explicit."
Ultimately, Denton County Commissioners approved the interlocal agreement because the county can either provide the funding to existing libraries within the county OR build and operate a County library. Prior to approval there was a lot of discussion about "inappropriate" materials, and Commissioner Edmonson initially tried to hold the agenda item until they find out whether the libraries have any "inappropriate" books. The Commissioners also did not know which city the Betty Foster library is located in; the initially confused it with a Denton City library, I assume they confused it with Emily Fowler but so everyone knows, the Betty Foster library is in Ponder, which is in precinct 4. (There was also mention of a County library committee, but I could not find any info about this committee or who is on it.)
Just a reminder that local government impacts you and that discussions about book banning in our libraries is still very alive and ongoing. Anyone who feels strongly about books being available should keep up with routine local government happenings as much as you are able and communicate with your reps! Including local government like your County Commissioner.
Denton County Commissioners Court meets almost every Tuesday. This meeting is not fun to watch, but it is the way you can see and participate in government that actually impacts you. Educate yourself about how to participate in this meeting because the people who disagree with you already know how.
I moved away from Denton a few years ago, and only started seeing this recently on Reddit. Someone explain? And is it referring to the one on the South Loop or over by Sam's?
Is there anywhere in town that will buy a broken laptop??
I swear I saw something on Facebook about a venue hosting an early New Year’s Eve ball drop for people with kids and those of us who go to bed early. LOL. Does anyone know where that’s being held? I’ve looked on lots of Facebook pages for the event, and I just can’t find it. Thank you!

Hi everyone,
I am looking to start flying lessons and wanted to see if there were any suggestions for me. I have a full-time job, but have a goal to learn how to fly. I don’t mind driving 30-45 minutes outside of Denton for lessons.
Any advice is appreciated!
