Figured it was time to reach out to either Texpats or just other locally-grown Stars fans in the northwest. I went out running errands and such a few days ago and several people recognized the Stars logo on my hoodie, so I know y'all are out there.
Is there a meetup location for games? Putting out the beacon! 🚨💚 🖤 🤍
Edit: This is turning into more western washington than just seattle... and that's a good thing. 😊
Hey everyone,
I'm a recent transplant to the area (over a year now) and a big hockey fan. Living near Las Colinas, I've been on the lookout for some good hockey bars or just people who are passionate about the sport.
With the Kings playing the Stars this week, I'm hoping you all can point me in the right direction for a great game-watching experience. No hate, just hockey! I've been a Kings fan since the Gretzky days. Let's keep it friendly and enjoy the game together.
Any recommendations are greatly appreciated!
Hey y’all!
It’s been a minute since I’ve checked in with this amazing community. I recently moved off of Long Island and I am now living in southern Delaware. This transition has been absolutely insane but I’m finally settled in and getting back to watching hockey and engaging on reddit again.
Due to the absolute piss show the Isles have been putting on I’m just about ready to go full Stars mode for the rest of this season in support of my favorite fans in the league! Furthermore, I’m gonna do what I can to have yall gain some fans in this state as not many here seem to follow hockey (not yet at least).
That’s all! I just love engaging with you guys so I wanted to check in.
LFG STARS!!!!

i remember watching klingberg play for the stars for most of the mid to late 2010’s, and then the big cup run in ‘20. i kinda tuned out of hockey after 2021 and didn’t get back into to it until 23/24. i know the stars couldn’t really keep klingberg for salary reasons, but looking at his stats, he completely fell off a cliff after leaving dallas. even more surprising is the fact that he remains unsigned by a team. what happened to him? thought he was a decent offensive minded defenseman. insight is appreciated

So it seems like for the time being we’re probably still stuck with Spott. However (and this was just shower musings this morning I haven’t had the chance to look at stats yet), per the eye test it looks like the Stars are one of the best in the whole league at 5v5 which shows up in being ranked where they are while the power play is near the bottom and penalty kill can’t handle strong PPs like Carolina and Winnipeg. So I know conventional wisdom is put more forwards out when you have the man advantage, more guys who are specialised at scoring, but it also seems like conventional wisdom for anyone playing the Stars is just make a blue line stand and intercept the drop pass and either clear it right back down or if they’re coming fast maybe make a shorthanded break. Why not just keep a normal 3f 2d group out there? They do well with that at even strength, so it seems like more space, and maybe less aggression and resorting to nonstandard tactics would help since the team can create with those normal groupings but can’t play up a man. Basically we all see this is a good team, and yet going on the power play makes them actively worse, so why change anything at all about the guys on the ice and how they’re playing until strategies change so it’s actually an advantage.
Obviously this ramble only deals with the power play so trying to figure out how to make the PK hold against good teams is going to take action from someone, but both sides of special teams gave up two goals last night and either one holding would have saved the embarrassment that was the ending of that game.
Anyway, a bit longer than I thought this would be, I’m just annoyed and disappointed from last night’s collapse, sorry all. Hopefully they bounce back tomorrow, wish I had a longer layover at O’Hare. Go Stars!
Looks like our usual treat of being able to sync Josh and Razor on the radio will be unavailable as the duo will be broken up for this game. Josh will have commentating duties on the TNT broadcast.
Edit: Brien Rea confirmed filling in as play by play on stars postgame 2024-11-27
We all know this is a problem at this point. I was hopeful at the beginning of the year but it seems the coaches are trusting him less and less. He played 10:43 against TBL and 13:52 last night (compared to Miro playing 26 lol). Essentially paying over 3m for a borderline 3rd pairing defenseman. Hoping he gets better as the season goes on because as of now this contract is looking BAD. I do think his physicality could help in the playoffs but so far has been offset by his mistakes.
Bobblehead moving sale. Priced as listed or best reasonable offer. Cash or Venmo at pickup is preferred. (Farmers Branch area)
I'll edit the items as they get claimed.
Hi folks, we are packing up and moving out of state. These bobbleheads were the extras the wife and I got at various games over the years. They are unopened.
Priced as listed or best reasonable offer. Or $300 for the lot
It sucks to say because I thought this team would be able to avoid it, but with the abysmal special teams (especially the powerplay) i don’t see any other path forward. The powerplay is unable to generate chances even against bottom tier teams, we all know PDB will refuse to fire Spott, and he’s run the same system for years, so it’s not like he’s going to change overnight either. And even if he did change something, we have the right players on the units and coming up with new strategies like that on the fly isn’t a good idea to be honest.
I don’t really see any path forward for this team in regard to serious contention unless Otter plays around a 1.50 GAA and a .935 save percentage in the playoffs (like the Calgary series) which we shouldn’t rely on or expect. The one problem I expected us to have this year was the blue line, and it’s actually been decent.
So where do we go from here? Just have a fun but uneventful 2-3 years until Pete (and thank god Spott) are fired? Change up the powerplay strategy on the fly and hope it works (which Spott needs to do, and history shows he won’t)? Or simply live with it and try to become a dominant 5v5 scoring team? Trying not to doom but without a top 10 powerplay i don’t see us going far lol
Plus TWO shorties? (I know the second wasn’t technically a shorty, but it may as well have been.)
If there wasn’t already enough reason to replace the PP coach, THAT should have put the nail in the coffin. I don’t care how good of friends you are with deBoer, for a team at the top of the rankings to be in the bottom quarter in PP is unacceptable.

Most Stars fans here, if not all, agree that our PP has become abysmal. I believe in our last game, a highlight was brought up during the broadcast that on the road, our PP is middle of the pack. And at home? Dead. Last. And now with 2 short-handed goals given up, 2 of many in the first 1/3rd of the season so far, where/how do we adjust?
I know many will say that it comes down to the players and their ability to move the puck and score. But the powerplay is based on drawn plays specifically to take advantage of positioning. When the puck is cleared, we are somehow transitioning poorly or thinking there is some other layer to our defense that isn't there. What that implies is that our positioning, the gap b/t our D and forwards in the zone is to large. Yet we don't occupy the net much, we don't have a dangerous tip man in the high slot, and we don't even really use the bumper. We are relying on cycles which can work, but that should be left for 5v5 when trying to create space. We're a man up, yet giving up goals. The players can only do so much when they have to buy into a system that forced them out of position while also not scoring. Not to mention the more we don't score, the more time is available for the opposing team.
TLDR: it's not the players; it's positioning --> positioning = plays --> plays = coaching.

My 6yo and I will be in Houston tomorrow and I know he will want to catch the game. The friendly folks in r/Houston don't seem to understand why we'd want to watch the only NHL team in Texas in a city in Texas. Does anyone here know of any good kid-friendly sports bars that might carry the game, or should I just bring my Apple TV and set up Victory+ in the hotel? We will be downtown.
So I bought the Holiday Hat Trick for my parents for Christmas, does anybody know how we are supposed to get the tumbler? I didn’t see any shipping info or further instruction when I checked out.
Where can I take my 5yo for public skate? We’re gonna be just eastish of Dallas out past Mesquite, and I’d love to be able to get her some ice time while we’re here on break.
Y’all are the locals, and know which ice I should avoid, which is the only reason I’m posting instead of googling.
She really needs to work on her confidence on the ice, and it’s hard for us to do so in Houston, after school hours.
