Stray/Lost Cat Seen By Overpass

Hey all,

First timer poster, but my girlfriend and I were driving South on 225 through Aurora when she suddenly saw a cat struggling and slowly sliding down the overpass slope on the corner of East Alameda Avenue and South Potomac Street, the overpass right to the right of the Circle K on that corner.

We made our way to that gas station to look for the cat, even going down to where we could look at where we saw the cat on foot, but by the time we got there it was gone and there were no signs of it on the road or nearby.

Just wanted to call this out in case anyone knows about/has seen/sees the cat again. The cat was a small young gray cat with a white strip on it's face, vague I know but that's all we could make out while we were driving.

Thanks all.

AI Roasting Aurora

I asked ChatGPT to roast Aurora and this is what it came up with. My wife and I couldn’t stop laughing.

Ah, Aurora—Denver’s awkward, sprawling stepchild that refuses to admit it’s basically just an extension of the airport. If Denver is trying too hard to be a major city, Aurora isn’t trying at all. It’s just an endless stretch of chain restaurants, cookie-cutter suburban developments, and strip malls that haven’t been updated since the early 2000s.

You want culture? Too bad. The closest thing Aurora has to a defining identity is “that place you drive through on the way to somewhere better.” It’s a city where half the residents swear they live in Denver just to avoid explaining where Aurora is.

The food scene? Let’s be honest—it’s a graveyard of Chili’s, Applebee’s, and questionable hole-in-the-wall spots where you’re either getting the best meal of your life or a trip to urgent care. And don’t even start on the traffic. Somehow, every road in Aurora is either under construction, riddled with potholes, or a lawless wasteland where turn signals are considered optional.

The one thing Aurora does well? Sprawl. It’s like the city planners just kept drawing roads until they got bored, leading to a vast, soulless expanse of townhomes and shopping centers, all with the exact same beige aesthetic. If you ever get lost here, good luck—every street looks the same, and half of them are named after something generic like “Pine Ridge” or “Meadow Creek.”

And of course, there’s the crime rate. Aurora somehow manages to be both boring and sketchy at the same time, like a Walmart parking lot at 2 a.m. But hey, at least it’s cheaper than Denver—if you don’t mind living in a city with all the charm of a parking lot and all the excitement of a DMV waiting room.

Board of appeals - Planning and development

Curious if anyone has received a violation from this body and gone through the appeals process? We are on the other side of our partially failed appeal and I would love know what happens if we simply do not make the changes they want? It's regarding a fence and for us it's a safety issue. So curious what penalties may be involved. I emailed them directly, but haven't heard back.

Costco- store at DIA or Havana better

I am about equally distant between the Costco on Havana near Mississippi and the Costco near DIA. Would love to hear opinions as to differences specifically do they have electric carts and are they always all in use? How is the parking? How is their meat department? any difference in amount of gluten-free products? Thanks!

Is Aurora as bad as people in Fort Collins make it out to be?

Hey y'all - my wife works at the Children's hospital and we're looking at moving closer so she doesn't have 3 hours of commuting between the hospital and Fort Collins 5 days a week. We don't know Colorado very well, so when we say to neighbors that we're looking at Aurora and get the "oooh, Aurora..." reaction, I feel the need to ask if it's really that bad, or if it's just a bunch of white bread college town people who find older homes and minorities distasteful?

I imagine there are parts of town to avoid at certain times of night, and I know the Aurora PD is notoriously shitty, but if it meant being less than 30 minutes away from a job that you really care about - knowing what you know about Aurora, would you still move to Aurora, or would you go somewhere else? We have kids - one that's about to start college in the fall and one that's about to go into middle school - but 'quality' of the school is less important than whether she's going to be bullied for being a weirdo neurodivergent girl with dyed hair and loving fantasy books.

Anything we can do to oppose immigration processing at Buckley?

Just saw the Guantanamo announcement and am actually starting to get scared. Does anyone know if there is a way to oppose setting up ICE in Aurora?

Harvest Ridge/Murphy Creek

Hi everyone,

I am looking to buy a home in Aurora and saw the new town that was being created in Aurora; Harvest Ridge. It's near Murphy Creek. Or I am not sure if it is a part of Murphy Creek as I am not from here originally. I did see that there is a landfill known as DADS near there, it's about two miles away. That is what it says on the maps.

Is this landfill a bother to you if you live in that area? I also saw that on the development maps, they are building homes closer and closer to the landfill. Think it's gonna be townhomes, not sure.

Just wondering about long term impact, not sure how many homes will be built in this area. Not sure why they are building closer and closer to the landfill. Is there some new plan that will take into factor the landfill for these new homes? As in will the landfill alter their plans? Not understanding the reasoning behind the expansion of the harvest ridge or whatever home builder is building closer to the landfill.

Any thoughts or any information you would have on this area would be very helpful.

Thank you

Looking for video game donations

Hello, I work with special needs kids and I have donated my Nintendo Switch to them but unfortunately I don't have any rated E games for them to play. I was hoping to find some kind folks with some extra Switch games they could donate to some local Aurora kids. Literally any "Everyone" game would be awesome for them. They just need to be physical cartridge games. We also have a Nintendo 2DS that can play 3DS, DSi or DS games if you have any of those. Please PM me if you are interested in helping out. Thanks for reading!

PS I'd be willing to provide verification in PM if you need reassurances.

God king froze Medicaid spending today

Every single hospital in Aurora would be closed by weeks end if Medicaid payments froze. This isn’t hyperbole. Great work MAGA.

Edit: the chimpanzee had to resend the order today because it did exactly as i stated. MAGA stfu.

Front Range Furniture Bank

Hey everyone I wanted to introduce you to Denver’s furniture bank serving the metro area (including Aurora),  GraceFull Home! They originally opened earlier this year as two organizations: a nonprofit furniture bank (On the House) and a companion junk hauling company (Furnishing Hope Junk Removal). Together they helped furnish the homes of over metro area 200 families exiting homelessness in 6 short months and diverted over 325 tons of material from landfills! In recent news, the two organizations merged and are now operating as the nonprofit GraceFull Home, and they have been invited to join the Colorado Nonprofit Development Corporation. This means they can now accept tax-deductible donations for everything they do. You can learn more about GraceFull Home from a recent CPR Colorado Matters story as well!

While it’s been an amazing start, GraceFull Home needs support from the community to keep helping our neighbors work with caseworkers to get into secure housing. The demand for furniture and housewares is high and keeping enough inventory is always challenging. Please help them spread the word to anyone looking to do a cleanout of a residence, business, or storage unit. Please use them to remove your excess or to declutter so they can help those exiting homelessness. Also please consider making a donation via their website if you’re able. They are the only organization in the metro area providing this truly important service to the general community, and every little bit helps. Please consider GraceFull Home for your houseware and furniture removal needs as they prepare to scale to help more families!
