Trash & recycling bin theft?

Been at my current house 3 years now without issue. Last week trash can went missing. Annoyed but didn't think anything of it, figured trash truck got a little hungry and ate it, made request for free first replacement, no biggie. Put out recycling this morning and now my recycling bin is gone. Check ring cam this time and see my bin out from this morning, saw recycling truck go by and next frame the lid is flipped open and the bin is still on my curb. See the bin there for a couple hours and then the next frame it's not there and see a van driving past the house. Is stealing trash cans a thing? I don't get it.

Bakeries in the area?

Howdy!

My family recently moved to Aurora and are still finding our bearings.

My daughter’s birthday is coming up and we have been looking for a bakery for her cake.

Looking online there seem to be several nice shops in the area, but they don’t have websites or even Facebook pages, and those that do don’t appear to have birthday cakes for ordering.

Does anyone know of a good bakery that takes custom cake orders?

Thanks a million!

This is how mass deportation will work.

Let me explain this as clearly as possible on how mass deportations will work. Because so many of the posts I’m seeing are hinting this won’t affect people i care about because we are not criminals. If you listen to republican politicians including Trump himself the very act of being an undocumented immigrant makes you a criminal. Doesn’t matter if you’ve been here for 5 minutes or 40 years. Aurora will be ground zero for mass deportation.

The collection and processing of undocumented migrants will go as follows. Every interaction police have with undocumented immigrants will result in processing, from traffic infractions to criminal investigation. Some might not have a problem with that start but it’s just a start. It’s going to be all interactions with government agencies resulting in identification and processing. Trump is proposing using the Alien and sedition act to be able to circumnavigate local law and ignore sanctuary city policies. This means full cooperation with the government on deportation, if you are a victim of a crime and you are an undocumented immigrant it no longer matters. You will be deported.

Now the most craven way folks will be deported is through seeking medical care. This will be a disaster for so many older undocumented immigrants. Everyone and without exception will seek medical care in their lifetime and with Trump also promising to cut off Medicaid payments hospitals will have little choice but to refuse care and report those seeking treatment.

I’m sure I’ll be accused of being alarmist because I’m taking seriously what Trump is saying. Well all the Sunday shows today had republican politicians promising mass deportation not just for scary criminals. They repeatedly said all undocumented immigrants. We are in for a scary couple of months.

Edit: this sure blew up and there are only two sets of people being honest here, those fully in support of the above and those who are scared of the above. The rest of you are being pollyannish as if you have a Trump decoder ring. You don’t, nor will you care or admit fault. Trump’s unique quality is his supporters can see whatever they want in the man.

Come play Killer Queen, an awesome 5v5 arcade game, at FlyteCo Tower tomorrow, Sunday 11/3 at 2pm!

Looking to meet some people and join a community? We're getting a group together to play Killer Queen tomorrow (Sunday 11/3) at FlyteCo Tower! It's an awesome 5v5 arcade game that you have to play in person with a group. It's got a national scene and a really awesome community, and we're trying to get the Colorado scene started up for more regular play.

This game is honestly for everyone. I haven't ever had someone have a bad time playing it. You don't need to be good at video games to get into this! Here's a nice overview of the game.

This is a very easy to learn game that also has a lot of strategic and mechanical depth for people who want to get deeper into it. I've actually traveled to tournaments for this game 3 times this year because I miss it so much (I played a lot in Minneapolis). I've never had someone dislike their time playing.

Come down to FlyteCo Tower tomorrow at 2-5ish! The game is up on the 2nd floor. Feel free to DM me if you have any problems.

If you're interested in playing in the future, come join the Discord server as well: https://discord.gg/pSrfZfMu

Random Question: Public Places with Fast Internet UPLOAD Speeds?

Hi all!

First time joining this sub, but pretty much a lifelong Aurora resident (outside of the last 8ish years)! I recently moved back to Aurora and am kinda in a pickle with work-related things.

I work remotely as a freelancer, and one of my clients is requesting a massive file via upload. It's about 300 GB, and while I was originally planning on letting it do the upload overnight, the file size (coupled with a much slower upload speed) caused it to fail.

I'm trying to see if there are any places in the area that'll let me upload something this massive, whether it's a cafe, library, or otherwise. I know it's a LONG shot, but any leads would be greatly appreciated! Most wifi networks afaik are about 10-20mbps for uploading, so anything faster would be ideal

Moving to Denver - advice/suggestions

I will try to keep this post short and to the point. We have the possibility of moving to Denver and we don’t know much about the area so looking for advice or suggestions on areas to look in. I was told to look in Tallyns Reach as a good option, so that’s why I’m posting to the Aurora page.

We are a young family with two kids, a two year-old and seven month old. We are looking for an area with a great school system, convenience to grocery stores, restaurants, playgrounds, trails, and parks. Ideally would like the town to have a lot of things for young kids, whether it be scheduled events or just places in general geared towards younger kids. We currently live in Florida in a wonderful neighborhood where we know all our neighbors. There are always kids outside playing together and we do block parties from time to time as well. We live within 10 to 15 minutes of multiple grocery stores, target, local restaurants (not chains), Home Depot, a zoo, a science museum, and our town does lots of events for kids. Hopefully that gives a better idea of what we would be looking for. We currently don’t know anybody out in Denver so we are hoping to be in an area with people in the same stage of life as us to make it easier to meet people.

My husband will be commuting to and from the Denver airport, so we would like to ideally stay within 45 minutes of the airport as well. Thanks for any advice and suggestions in advance! We are open to any and all suggestions/opinions.

How's your Halloween going?

One block over, the yard displays are really good! I saw 3 or 4 families going down the street there.

Unfortunately, our block is not so lucky. We've only had 1 family walk down so far.

How are the people in your part of the neighborhood? Was it all trunk-or-treaters, or are they keeping it old school too?

EDIT: This is a bigger-kid night, it seems. Things really started picking up after 8pm.

Looking for recommendations of No Kill animal Shelters.

As the title states, looking for recommendations of no kill dog shelters in aurora or surrounding areas.

My Dad has fallen on hard times, and unfortunately has to give up one of his dogs. She's a very sweet and loving dog. Unfortunately she has some behavior problems that have made finding her a home difficult. Separation anxiety that leads to destructive behaviors. Plus tons of energy. She's around 6 or 7. Blue tick mixed with Treeing walker coon hound. Trying to find a place that can hopefully find her a home. Thanks on advance for any recommendations

Volunteer opportunities for kids

I'm looking to instill some humility and compassion into my 6 and 8 year old kids. They're good kids, but like many kids they're kinda spoiled and I'd like to work on that. Only problem, i'm having a hard time finding opportunities for younger kids. Food Bank of the Rockies was 10+ for volunteers and most others are 16+. We live in Southeast Aurora but would be willing to drive a bit if the opportunity was a good fit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Realtor Recommendations Please

My husband and I are looking to buy in the winter/spring and would like some realtor recommendations if you have them. First(ish) time home buyers. 2 person family with a small dog. We're looking at condos and townhouses.

We're moving from out of state so we need someone who is very knowledgeable about the area and can communicate by email/phone, and schedule a couple of days of showings all in one fell swoop. VA benefits available but we do plan to put money down and we have excellent credit.

Thank you for any advice.

Commuting via A-Line

I work near Anschutz/Fitzsimons and have been touring different units nearby. I haven’t been very interested in many, so I’ve been looking further out and found a place I’m pretty happy with I would need to take the A train towards DIA because I don’t drive.

Does this sound doable?

I’ve heard from other friends who use transit that often different rail lines go down or are incredibly slow. For my specific commute, I could either use the A train and then bus ~8 mins or scooter/bike after. Any help is appreciated, thanks!
