I have an AWD SUV, and decent experience driving in the snow. Planning to make the drive Monday 12/16 Is Hwy 40 usually reasonable this time of year, or am I setting myself up for failure?
Headed up to copper tomorrow from the Golden area. Planning to be on the road around 6/6:30 if anyone wants to join/carpool! My car can hold 2 other people plus our gear.
Headed to MJ today
Hi we (4 adults 3 children) are going to be staying at a ski in ski out lodge in Copper Mountain later this month for 6 days. Can you recommend any good restaurants, supermarkets around the area? Don’t want to eat resort food everyday lol. Any other fun things to do after a day of skiing? We have a car so don’t mind driving.
Runs Sunday-Saturday, ask questions about snow conditions, terrain open, resort information, and everyone’s favorite, traffic questions
I was thinking about getting a Foot Pass and taking my toddler on the magic carpet tomorrow, but I get 404 when I go to make a purchase. Their blog hasn't been updated since March, and I can't find much on Google, except maybe they went bankrupt. Has anyone been up there this season?
Something came up at work and I couldn’t get out there. Just curious whether it’d be worth heading up tomorrow
Good evening guys, I am planning a family trip with to Denver this upcoming march to Ski. This will be our first time out west. We are coming from New England so I really wanted to make the best out of this trip since we finally saved up enough.
I know it might seem banal but I wanted the input from locals hence this post.
We were initially planning on visiting from the 15th to the 23rd, but after reading some posts I was wondering if it would be better to plan to go a week before, so the 8th to the 16th of March instead.
We ski ice here in new England and I really wanted to have the best experience possible with the best conditions, would that week make any difference in the terrain?
When would crows be better and does it actually makes any difference or am I being and it does not matter.
I really appreciate the input and taking your time to answer!
I can do almost all single blacks but haven’t hit my first double black yet. Seeing mostly doubles, how can I enjoy the mountain?
How do I figure out what size bindings came on my kids board? It was from Epic Mtn already put together and used so don’t have much info on it.
MJ side opens today anyone know if galloping goose is running? The website says Shoe fly is open, I called and they said it doesn't look like the goose is open.
If anyone lucky enough to ski there today, can confirm or deny that the goose is running I'd love to hear it got a friend from out of town in this weekend.
Vail, Beavercreek, Breckenridge, or Keystone?
Hi guys! Switched over to Ikon from Epic and getting my first day of the season this Saturday at copper! I mostly ride blues and single black diamonds. Can yall recommend me your fave blues and blacks? Preferably groomed with no moguls lol
Looking for tips to save on Winter Park lift tickets for the weekend of February 8th. We’re heading up for a 35th birthday and have a free place to stay, but trying to keep it budget-friendly.
We usually ski Monarch or Cooper, so Winter Park prices were a bit of a shock. Other than buying early online, any tips for making two days of skiing more affordable?
Thanks for the advice! Please delete if this post has been asked 1000 times and is annoying.
I typically take the bus from Union station up to copper, eldora, and abasin on weekdays. On weekends I might take the snowstang to Loveland or Winter Park. I plan on using the winter park express January onwards if I can coordinate going on a Thursday or Monday and get that $38 round trip.
I know these transit lines have been growing and getting better for a while but Denver has a knack for randomly suspending lines or making them completely unusable (i.e: light rail to DTC that ran once an hour for the past year and a half).
I would like to sell my car considering I literally don't use it for anything but I am worried about them deciding okay bustang doesn't go up to Frisco anymore sorry everybody. I know no one can give me a for sure answer, but folks who have maybe done a few seasons and/or lived in CO for a long time do you think these bus lines are here to stay?
Howdy ya’ll!
Flying in from TX and looking to Rent (or Demo) while we’re up in Vail. We’ll be coming in after 3pm, and have family that need to get their hard passes.
Last year I rented from an Epic Mountain Gear in Denver and it was an awesome experience. Best part was the ability to drop my gear and the end of the trip on the mountain, in Vail, and not have to make a stop on the way to the airport.
Question: I’m seeing Breeze as a rental option, and seeing that they are now part of the Epic network. Would I be able to rent from either the Silverthorne or Denver locations and still turn things back in on mountain in Vail?
Thanks in advance for the help!
Heading out y'all's way from Wisconsin at the end of January. I'm debating about where to stay. I'll have an AWD rental but am not sure how it'll handle if there's fresh snow. Any thoughts? Appreciate you!
So I am renting a Toyota Rav 4 from the airport for my trip later this month. The rental car company (Budget) website doesn’t say if it is AWD or what kind of tires it has. Am I good? How do you make sure rental car is properly equipped for winter driving?
I’m considering applying to volunteer at NSCD (National Sports Center for the Disabled) at Winter Park this season. I’m wondering if anyone has first-hand experience and can share? I’m curious to know what types of work you may do, how many hours per week, and if it was a positive experience and something you would recommend.
I’m not an expert skier but I think I have some other skills that could be useful as well.
Going on a family trip with my brother in law and his family. Picked Granby because staying there was affordable for ski in/out and they have little kids. Was thinking of skiing 2 days with them at Granby and 1 with just my family at Winter Park. Now that I look at the lift prices at WP I'm kind of wondering if we should just do our 3rd day at Granby on a day with night skiing. The one day at WP will be almost $1200 for the 4 of us. We ski about once a year and can have fun (almost) anywhere. My son graduated from Ft. Lewis a couple years ago so he is used to purgatory and wolf creek. Is it worth almost $300 a person for a day at WP vs less than half that at Granby AND night skiing? We live in Austin so any skiing is better than here (just for context).
I was looking to use the service this winter. I had been looking at the timetable only a month or so ago but it's no longer on the website. I can't find any news about cancelling it. Anyone with info?
I tore my ACL and so no skiing for me til I get it fixed. I do want to take the kids to see snow in January so they can toboggan and have fun in the snow. Since I will not be in the slopes I was thinking of skipping a resort area. Do you know of somewhere to go with nice snow and mountains but far enough from the resorts to not be crazy expensive
Hey - just a heads up for anyone who hasn't experienced it yet... Since the latest construction project, the Clear Creek Sheriff and Idaho Springs PD have been extremely strict about speed control. Not consistently... But at times. I travel I-70 through Clear Creek County all the time... I've been stopped three times in the last 2 months, and ticketed once.
My most egregious experience of over-enforcement happened the other night when I was pulled over at 11pm... I was the only car I could see on the highway, doing an officer-stated 64 in a 55. This was west of I.S., miles before the 45mph zone. It's the only time in my life I've been pulled over going less than 10 over. The officer didn't ticket me, but he did surveil the car carefully, even asking me to show him the canned beverage I had in the car (sparkling water).
I'm not posting this to claim that speeding should be legal, or the cops shouldn't be cops... This is just a PSA. Many driving habits you may be used to elsewhere will get you pulled over here these days. Just a heads up.
end of January
Looking to take adult kids for 3-4 days midweek Looking for ski in ski out condo with 3 bedrooms Most of the group have only been skiing once There are two of the group that are very experienced Which mountain would be my best choice Based on cost , crowds and terrain everyone would enjoy
I’m visiting Grand Lake area this Christmas for a week long vacation, probably skiing around Granby and possibly Ski Cooper. I am from Texas and drive a FWD suv, my vehicle needs new tires which I plan to purchase before my trip should I buy cheap winter tires just for this week long trip or would new all season tires be fine along with chains. Another question about the chains are those only used if you get stuck and need to get out or are they used before getting onto a sketchy road?
Question 2: Is it better to avoid Berthoud’s pass and use HWY 9 to Kremmling to get to Grand Lake? What roads areas and or roads should I mostly avoid? (I don’t mind traveling farther since I’m on vacation if it’s a less stressful drive)
Traveling for a living I’ve driven in snow and ice before without issues but never in the mountains which is what I’m worried about the most. Stupidly I didn’t think about my rental being in the mountains when booking or I would’ve looked somewhere else. I’ve thought about renting a vehicle but honestly it’s cheaper to buy winter tires for a one time use than renting, I wish there was a service to rent tires how nice would that be. Plus some on here have noted that the rentals most likely have bald tires as it is.
Question 3: When driving on dirt gravel roads in this area with snow or ice is that more dangerous than the paved roads or easier? My rental is on a dirt road and I’m wondering if I should be using the chains every time I get on that road?
Question 4: If I avoid berthouds pass getting to grand lake but I wish to travel to Granby area is the northern half of that road less drastic?
Thanks in advance if you took the time to read all of this!
Long story short: From TX should I purchase winter tires for a week long vacation to the Gand Lake area for my FWD suv?
My GF and I are planning a trip to Denver and want to spend 2-3 days at a nearby Ski resort. She wants to learn how to snowboard. I am an intermediate skier and snowboarder. Want a place that's beginner-friendly. Some friends have recommended Loveland, Eldora and Winter Park. Leaning towards Loveland because it looks like they have a beginner's area called Loveland Valley. Thoughts? Also recommendations on places to stay would be awesome. Thank you!
