Random Question: Public Places with Fast Internet UPLOAD Speeds?

Hi all!

First time joining this sub, but pretty much a lifelong Aurora resident (outside of the last 8ish years)! I recently moved back to Aurora and am kinda in a pickle with work-related things.

I work remotely as a freelancer, and one of my clients is requesting a massive file via upload. It's about 300 GB, and while I was originally planning on letting it do the upload overnight, the file size (coupled with a much slower upload speed) caused it to fail.

I'm trying to see if there are any places in the area that'll let me upload something this massive, whether it's a cafe, library, or otherwise. I know it's a LONG shot, but any leads would be greatly appreciated! Most wifi networks afaik are about 10-20mbps for uploading, so anything faster would be ideal

Moving to Denver - advice/suggestions

I will try to keep this post short and to the point. We have the possibility of moving to Denver and we don’t know much about the area so looking for advice or suggestions on areas to look in. I was told to look in Tallyns Reach as a good option, so that’s why I’m posting to the Aurora page.

We are a young family with two kids, a two year-old and seven month old. We are looking for an area with a great school system, convenience to grocery stores, restaurants, playgrounds, trails, and parks. Ideally would like the town to have a lot of things for young kids, whether it be scheduled events or just places in general geared towards younger kids. We currently live in Florida in a wonderful neighborhood where we know all our neighbors. There are always kids outside playing together and we do block parties from time to time as well. We live within 10 to 15 minutes of multiple grocery stores, target, local restaurants (not chains), Home Depot, a zoo, a science museum, and our town does lots of events for kids. Hopefully that gives a better idea of what we would be looking for. We currently don’t know anybody out in Denver so we are hoping to be in an area with people in the same stage of life as us to make it easier to meet people.

My husband will be commuting to and from the Denver airport, so we would like to ideally stay within 45 minutes of the airport as well. Thanks for any advice and suggestions in advance! We are open to any and all suggestions/opinions.

How's your Halloween going?

One block over, the yard displays are really good! I saw 3 or 4 families going down the street there.

Unfortunately, our block is not so lucky. We've only had 1 family walk down so far.

How are the people in your part of the neighborhood? Was it all trunk-or-treaters, or are they keeping it old school too?

EDIT: This is a bigger-kid night, it seems. Things really started picking up after 8pm.

Looking for recommendations of No Kill animal Shelters.

As the title states, looking for recommendations of no kill dog shelters in aurora or surrounding areas.

My Dad has fallen on hard times, and unfortunately has to give up one of his dogs. She's a very sweet and loving dog. Unfortunately she has some behavior problems that have made finding her a home difficult. Separation anxiety that leads to destructive behaviors. Plus tons of energy. She's around 6 or 7. Blue tick mixed with Treeing walker coon hound. Trying to find a place that can hopefully find her a home. Thanks on advance for any recommendations

Volunteer opportunities for kids

I'm looking to instill some humility and compassion into my 6 and 8 year old kids. They're good kids, but like many kids they're kinda spoiled and I'd like to work on that. Only problem, i'm having a hard time finding opportunities for younger kids. Food Bank of the Rockies was 10+ for volunteers and most others are 16+. We live in Southeast Aurora but would be willing to drive a bit if the opportunity was a good fit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Realtor Recommendations Please

My husband and I are looking to buy in the winter/spring and would like some realtor recommendations if you have them. First(ish) time home buyers. 2 person family with a small dog. We're looking at condos and townhouses.

We're moving from out of state so we need someone who is very knowledgeable about the area and can communicate by email/phone, and schedule a couple of days of showings all in one fell swoop. VA benefits available but we do plan to put money down and we have excellent credit.

Thank you for any advice.

Commuting via A-Line

I work near Anschutz/Fitzsimons and have been touring different units nearby. I haven’t been very interested in many, so I’ve been looking further out and found a place I’m pretty happy with I would need to take the A train towards DIA because I don’t drive.

Does this sound doable?

I’ve heard from other friends who use transit that often different rail lines go down or are incredibly slow. For my specific commute, I could either use the A train and then bus ~8 mins or scooter/bike after. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Walmart Neighborhood at corner of Iliff and Chambers mismatching prices

Hey! So just wanted to share since I’m sure most of us are having a hard time with the prices at grocery store. This Walmart location has mismatch prices listed all over produce and products in the store on their electronic price tags. After trying to explain to the cashier, they couldn’t do anything about it. I talked to one of the “managers” and they said they’ll try to fix it. In case they don’t, I wanted to bring awareness. So you don’t end up upset like me for having to pay way more than what you thought you were going to pay.

Family-friendly neighborhoods on a budget?

We are a family with a young kiddo hoping to move to Aurora to be closer to family. We’re looking for a neighborhood that’s safe and reasonably family-friendly. Also looking for a good elementary nearby.

We’re on a budget (up to $600,000ish), and we’re willing to be flexible. We love older houses like ranchers, but new construction is just fine, too.

Can anyone recommend a neighborhood that might be for us? I’ve heard Aurora can vary wildly from block to block like our current town, so I figured I’d ask the community for any insight.

APD Incompetence

I know this likely isn't a surprise to anyone, but had to share this particular incompetence that's been frustrating me today.

TL,DR; calling APD for a non emergencyis a nightmare.

I had someone cash a fraudulent check from my account, not sure how they got it, but the check has all their info on it, and I can see their name, drivers license and DOB through my bank app. I reached out to my bank and they basically said we can take care of it, we just need you to submit a police report.

Went online and saw there was a section of APD's site specific to check fraud, but the catch is if you have any suspect info they want you to call the non emergency number. NBD, just need to file the report so I can share it with my bank.

I called, was on hold for about 20 minutes, NBD it's not an emergency. Finally get a hold of a dispatcher and explain the situation. They start working on a report but have to jump to an emergency call. On hold for another 5 minutes, new dispatcher jumps on, I start my explanation over and they basically say, well if you don't know that the name and info on the check is legit then you should file online, I'm like ok I guess that makes sense, but they decide to transfer me to the fraud department to be sure. I speak to an officer in that department who tells me I should definitely submit online.

I specifically ask them "Are you sure, because the online form said I needed to call you if I had any suspect info." They say oh yeah, just say no on that part of the form and add the info into the narrative and it'll be fine. So I go back online and follow their direction. Submit my report and get a confirmation email. Great! Took about 45 minutes start to finish.

An hour later, I get an email back from them saying, hey because you have suspect info you have to call and talk to an officer, so the report you filled can't be accepted as a police report...

So I get to start the process all over again. Cause someone doesn't know how to do their job.

Such a waste of my time and theirs. Could've been easy to confirm with a colleague instead of just guessing incorrectly.

Rant over.

Children’s Hospital Colorado

Hey all! Looking to get transparency on working as an RN at Children’s Hospital Colorado. Specifically in Aurora in their PICU or ED. How is the hiring process? Insight on pay for a second year BSN (or any pay related info). How firm are they on their offers? Will they budge if it’s too low for me? Overall environment, management, or personal experiences good and bad while working there. Pros and cons. Anything else you may want to add. Feel free to message me too🌞🫶🏻 Thank you!

Trouble finding home improvement vendors/contractors

Talking about electricians, plumber/sprinkler, auto body, HVAC...I've had terrible luck. Most of my contacts have been to those with good feedback through sites like Yelp, Google, FB. I always check the "Connections" and other mailers stuffed in my mailbox each week. But it's amazing how many just are completely unresponsive and I've had multiple who have just flat out made appointments and not shown up. I did have a couple of separate plumbers come (one sink, one sprinkler), and both charged (what, to me, at least was) an uncomfortably high amount and their work was poor (which is why I'm still in need of help). With a recent furnace issue I was set to just bite the bullet and pay more to a "reputable" company like Applewood--they were responsive and polite, but their prices were literally triple of their competitors.

I think first and foremost I need to recalibrate my expectations regarding price, as everything just costs more now. But generally, how do you go about finding these services? Specifically, I'm talking about small to medium jobs in auto body, plumbing, electrical on the SE side of town, although if there is some good general advice I'd love to hear it.

Trick or treat spots

Haven’t lived here long. Can anyone tell me the best neighborhoods in Aurora for tricker treating? We live in a new subdivision and there aren’t many children that live there yet. So, it was no fun for our son last year. I’ve had a few customers come in the business I run and mention coming to their neighborhoods because they do it up and have lots of fun. I just don’t know where they are.

Area near North Middle School safe?

I used to live in Denver for 6 years but near South Broadway and now am moving back after being in Seattle for 7 years. We are starting to look at houses and am not familiar with Aurora at all.

How is the area in between Moorhead Recreation Center and North Middle School? There are quite a few homes in our budget (500k) and that meet our specs in that are but I’ve heard northwest Aurora can be not the nicest.

We also have friends that live west of Central Park so we are trying to live close to that area. Open to suggestions, thank you!
