The old Safeway Building would be a great place for some mixed use residential business fronts and apartments. With the housing issue in the valley, the apartments would fill, which would create a captive audience for a restaurant, convenience store, and maybe another business or two. It's prime location with access to transit, the rec path, and more.
With the public transit access, there is stronger incentive for the city to allow less parking than normal, reducing the amount of non-income generating space. All of this making it a stronger financial prospect for any developer. It would also reduce the amount of urban sprawl that is going on.
You could even do the same thing with the old Carbondale City Market. It's detached from the other buildings in that plaza, and would again provide new business to those that exist already.
I am looking to stay year round and I will be working in snowmass. What is the rental price range after April/May when people leave after winter? I'm thinking snowmass or basalt for cheaper rent. I'm assuming a lot of housing and apartments will open up and wondering if prices go down. I am looking right now and the prices are insane, but is it just that high for winter right now?
Potentially dumb question, but what airport makes the most sense to travel out of if we are moving to Glenwood Springs? I know Eagle and Aspen are closer, but I’m assuming smaller and potentially more expensive?
Is the best bet Denver? And if so, are there any shuttle or train services worth checking out?
TIA!
MacBook Repair
My MacBook Air stopped working last night and now won't turn on/charge. Apple want to charge me 500 bucks to send in to be repaired. Anyone now somewhere in the valley that can fix this for a more reasonable cost?
Hi all, was wondering if anyone has any general guidance as to what the general commute time is to Aspen from Glenwood Springs during the Christmas to New Years holiday time period? I know weather is the biggest factor, but am curious if there is usually a bunch of “holiday traffic”?
Will be visiting some family who have a home on Snowmass Golf Course, and am trying to decide how far away is too far away to commute daily for visiting them and skiing, walking town, etc.
TIA!
Hey there! My fiancée has lived in this area his whole life and when we get married I’m uprooting from Orlando FL and heading all the way up there with my dog! However the price difference in literally everything has me a little nervous. I’m a vet tech so before I get a job there I’m going to have to retake my exam again to be certified, so it’ll be a minute before I can pick up a job of the same caliber I’m at now. I really would love to find a 1bed 1bath place that we can live in that won’t drain all my puny Florida money within two months. Any ideas of places that aren’t too expensive? Anything would help. :)
Hey all, as the title explains I’m (M21) moving to roaring fork in a couple weeks. Will I have a hard time meeting friends? What’s the dating scene like? Any other information is also really appreciated thanks!
There is a cool event at Explore Booksellers in Aspen on Oct 5 at 7:00 pm. Author Ben Goldfarb and Roaring Fork Safe Passages Board Member Tom Cardamone will discuss wildlife crossings and connectivity and Ben's book Crossings. Light refreshments will be provided.
Hey guys, Colorado couple looking for a room or apartment for rent starting November. Both been in the valley for years just had to take time away for family. Please let me know if anyone has anything!
EDIT: Anywhere in the valley from Aspen down to Carbondale would be ideal. Looking for rent no more expensive than $2400.

Myers was my high school principal 20 years after he lived in Carbondale.
I'm working on a documentary about him and I'd like to talk to people who have stories about him. (I've done 17 interviews so far.)
I'm not ready to publicly announce the project yet so I'm not revealing my identity at this time, but if we talk in private I'm happy to tell you who I am.
If you have something to share, or even just a suggestion, feel free to contact me here or at stevemyersproject.org
I'm living in Snowmass Village and am a huge nerd and would love to either play Dungeons a d Dragons or mini war games but I can't seem to find any stores.

Hi,
Long time local here and have heard of a mysterious fountain up ruedi that has drinkable water. I can easily get water from my tap but love the forging mentality anytime I go up to fish. Does anyone have any inside information on this. If so please PM me as to keep it private. Thanks in advance

My 20 year old kid wants to ride an e-bike from Aspen to Crystal Mill as a day trip. It’s 120 miles round trip. I said it’s crazy. He would need to carry 2 extra batteries along with a pack for food and water. He said I’m an idiot. Who is right?
I've been nerding out over transit for various reasons lately. One of the things the valley seems to be missing is transit to the places people want to be, reducing last mile travel. A lot of the BRT stops are not really convenient for night life, or anything other than serving Aspen from Park and Rides and almost dense housing.
The thought occured to me that a second BRT route that runs more to the city cores. Largely so that the BRT serves Glenwood and Carbondale in more than just sending people out of these two towns from Park and Rides. The stops that make sense to be for a CBRT are:
Glenwood Shopping Mall Glenwood Train Station Carbondale 6th & Main El Jebel Willits Downtown Basalt Intercept ABC Ruby
The shopping mall due to the new density apartments, library, and shopping. (You could run special routes to get to the West Glenwood Park and Ride to time with the BusStang.) The Train Station because it's right at the Glenwood Core of social activity, and to help connect to transit out of the valley. Carbondale 6th & Main also for the access to the more walkable spaces of Carbondale. El Jebel and Willits due to the density and shopping available. Downtown Basalt to improve access and walkability with the new parking. Intercept to connect with Snowmass and that it is a major transit hub. ABC for airport and airport tourism, and Ruby to help people get from Aspen to Downvalley.
This would be a longer ride time than the current BRT, but one that serves the middle of each town far better. One that would make it a lot easier to chose to take the bus to go to evening events and gatherings than your car, especially if it's head times were more frequent in the evening vs typical commuter hours.
My initial thoughts were to hit secondary Park and Rides such as Catherine Store and Two Rivers. And these should have more access as well as commerce opportunities to make these stops more convenient. But the CBRT seems like it would be more self sustaining, and could run on the half hour, opposite of the current evening BRT schedule. This way there is more coverage to these areas to help bring commerce to these towns, and make it easier to not suffer the shuffle of HWY 82 during commuter hours by running focused commuter traffic schedules as well.
Current SkiCo employee leaving soon to go back to college, need someone to take over my lease for mid September until the end of October in Snowmass Village. Please dm me if you are interested or k ow anyone looking for a place to live for a bit
Hey y'all I am looking at possibly starting up Service in Utah. I lived in the Valley for a few years and know there is obviously a big need for estate management. Is there anyone that is a Owner or Operator for these services that is willing to chat about some basics?
I'm curious as to why there are not evening BRT stops at the Glenwood 8th and Pitkin Ave stop. It would seem like getting people from Up Valley to Glenwoods Walkable Core, and back, would be a trip generator. Yet every time I go down there, I wind up having to transfer buses in order to get to that space or deciding to drive.
I also wonder if there is interest in having a more frequent train service to/from Grand Junction and Glenwood than the current once daily. My thoughts are two fold: if we can easily get to Grand Junction, the airport is only a few miles away from the train station. Currently it does take half an hour on public transit (15 minute ride hail) to get to the airport, but with enough use it would make sense for GJ to have a BRT between the airport and the train station for this traffic. The GJ Airport is more reliable, and cheaper by ticket cost than ASE. My hope is that this would also help bring airfare prices in GJ down closer to Denver prices.
The second thought would be to get commuter stations in New Castle, Rifle, Parachute, and Palisades. With 4 or 5 trips during peak commuter hours, and faster rolling stock than Amtrak runs (trackage permitting), this could make commuting to work up valley far easier. Especially if there was an express bus, or BRT that connected Union Station in Glenwood to the rest of the system. This would also help fund the route to Grand Junction in order to make this a more viable airport for RFV residents, and any trackage upgrades that would be needed to make this trip more reliable and faster.
Thank you so much!
Hey everyone, my radiator broke while I was traveling through the area last night near Glenwood Springs. I am broke and can't afford a new radiator or lodging. I have basic camping gear that can get me by, but I need to make money for a new radiator and food for the week or so it will take to be shipped to the AutoZone.
Does anyone need any help over the weekend or tonight? I have steeltoe work boots and cougar paws.I can work outside in any weather. I am good with computers. I am college educated.
I also have my gaming computer with me that I am willing to sell. I can provide the specs if you might be interested.
Anyone know where to play adult soccer in the area? Just moved here- would love some recs. Thanks!
Hey friends, headed out to my buddies place in Basalt in a few weeks and was wondering if there were any good alpine lakes around for some trout fishing.
Not looking for anyone’s secret spot, just some suggestions on how to identify/get to one for a day trip.
Thanks all!
