Genuine question here, im not new to baseball but last year was the first year i watched more then 1 regular season game on tv (i watched about 20 or so) and attended about 5 or 6 games live at the diamondbacks stadium. Ive known the rules and older legends and a good amount of recent players so im not unfamiliar.
Why does it seem like teams dont value young great talent?? I look at a team like the white sox.. They have arguably a top 2 or 3 pitcher in Garret Crothet and a HUGE upside guy in luis Robert on their team and they almost moved BOTH of them last year and just traded the pitcher.. Skubal left, Kyle tucker just got traded, bellinger years ago, im sure there are a ton more examples just of the last 4 years of a lot of 25-26 year old great talents being moved for prsopects.. i dont get it. Traditionally in sports teams keep their young talent unless there is a genuine locker room or team chemistry issue or the front office is just super cheap. Very rarely do we see great young talent moved. I know rebuilding blah blah blah but like are you not going to be always rebuilding if you trade your bright pieces away? Add to it, pay the people that fans want to see.. what do you guys think? Teams in the MLB do this way to much in my opinion. It feels like they want to stay in poverty.
Listen, I know the MLB draft is far more of a crapshoot than any other draft, and baseball is more about development than drafting. Getting drafted 32nd overall among the thousands and thousands of prospects in that class is very good. But the draft does matter, and there are always the big name, "can't miss" prospects. Bryce Harper, ARod, Ken Griffey Jr., Stephen Strasburg, etc. So how did Aaron Judge, who's 6'7, 282 pound of muscle, no personal baggage, all-conference in all 3 years he spent in college, freshman all American, college home run derby winner, fantastic bat (900+ ops Freshman and Sophomore year, 1100+ Junior year), solid outfield glove, quite fast for his size, freak athlete who was recruited to play tight end at multiple big power 5 schools (including Stanford, UCLA, and Notre Dame), and no real injury concerns that I'm aware of, fall so low in the draft?
I believe the people that vote for the HOF did Carlos a great disservice. Now I’m not saying he should be in the Hall of Fame but to not receive 5% of the vote to stay on the ballot another year is ridiculous. 473 hrs , 1500 rbi 280 ave in basically 13 full seasons.
I’ve seen so many people on this sub over the last few days say that Soto left the yanks over $5M or because of a personal vendetta against a security guard. If anyone believes it was for anything other than money, please see the details below and let me know how it WASN’T just money that was the motivating factor.
Yanks offer:
Mets offer:
$765M/15 yrs
Opt-Out after year 5 which would increase AAV to $55M/yr instead of $51
Luxury suite for all home games and an additional 4 luxury seats in the field level bowl
security for him and his family for all road & away games
$500K bonus for 1st mvp win with that going to $1m for any mvp won after that
$250K for finishing 2-3 in MVP
$150K for finishing 4-5 in MVP
22 from Baty without having to give anything up to Baty himself
$75M signing bonus
Lol yeah in other words they just paid the most lol 😆 he could even find the right words to answer this lol
Xander Bogaerts has a very underrated swing. So pretty and effortless. It reminds me of Josh Hamilton's swing except right handed
My dad and I are both Cubs fans. We have never been to Japan before and my Japanese is rudimentary at best. Does anyone have any advice on how I can potentially get tickets to the Tokyo Series games?
I checked online and the machine translation said something about a lottery, but I'm not sure how the process works especially if you don't live in Japan. If anyone else has been to an MLB game in Tokyo, any assistance is appreciated!
Forgive me for not being in the know but I just recently got cable back and was wondering if Baseball Tonight is still on ESPN during the season. I thought it was a good way to follow the league
Growing up roger clemens is the reason I wanted to play baseball and the reason I started to pitch I remember telling everyone I wanted to be just like roger clemens but only difference was he's a left handed pitcher so I have a bunch of old baseball and football and basketball cards I found some rogwr clemens cards worth a couple grand I was telling my friend the same story and I said wtf his gloves on his left hand I thought he was a left handed pitcher and My friend said he is ,we looked it up and it says he's right handed this completely confused me because I remember growing up knowing roger clemens pitched as a left handed pitcher ( does anyone else remember this ? I found 2 prices of residue showing him with his glove on his right hand holding the ball with his left hand either he learned how to do both or Mt whole life was a lie !
Here's the analysis, starting with this pair of comments:
In return for two years of Crochet’s services, Boston is giving up a massive prospect haul. Teel is the clear headliner, ranked by Baseball America as the #25 prospect in the sport. ...
In addition to Teel, the Red Sox are also dealing 2024 first rounder Braden Montgomery. The 12th overall pick in this year’s draft, Montgomery is a switch-hitting outfielder who has yet to make his pro debut but slashed .322/.454/.733 in 295 trips to the plate for Texas A&M this year. BA ranks Montgomery as the #59 prospect in baseball while MLB Pipeline ranks him as the #54 prospect in the sport.
From there, the piece looks at possible next steps by Boston.
Why do homeruns at Camden Yards never hit the warehouse in right field? The only one who has was Ken Griffey JR during a homerun derby. The warehouse is only 460 ft from homeplate. You think since its existence someone would have reached it in regular MLB game. Is there an airflow or something else that stops them from reaching the warehouse?
It’s that time of year again where the Hall of Fame voting has started. Ichiro is on the ballot and should be a 1st year unanimous hall of famer. Unfortunately I foresee him missing the unanimous vote by a few because some writers will protest a blank ballot or not vote for him so their name will be talked about. Griffey and Jeter a few years ago both only missing by a vote or two is absurd. The whole process needs to be updated. There are certain players where we all agree is a 1st ballot HOFer and they miss out due to the ego of a writer.
We have seen the dodgers become the federal kings, Sox, Yankees and Mets put up nearly a billion for Soto and more and more the free agents basically seem to have their eyes on BOS, NYY, NYM and LAD.
It kinda sucks.
What can be done to enhance the competition?
Ok. I recently got back into baseball after being gone so long. Mike trout is one of the greats and greatest ever Angel.
To keep him, and keep him happy, Angels should make a play for Vladdy Jr.
This would make TV and streaming partners, fans and neutrals care
They are in SoCal...with that giant market they need to spend cause they can make it back and grow their potentially already huge fanbase.
Vlads father is in the hall as an Angel and fans would love the connection with his dad and the Halos.
This would show Trout they are willing to spend big money and he would not want to leave.
And its SoCal. Vlads first language is Spanish...obviously Socal has a huge Spanish speaking populous. So for him it could be an easier place to fit in.
I'm not an Angel's fan but thoughts.
This post is here to generate discussion. Please be civil.
Trout still clears, but that post from yesterday was obviously done to exaggerate and mislead.
I met Mookie Jordan Romano George springer and Captain Kirk all of them were very nice
