Mlb question what's your opinion on Dustin pedroia. He won a bunch of awards and was a laser show. But does he deserve to be a HOF spot?

Just a NH fan seeing what outsiders think.

What if the Yankees, Red Sox, Mets and Dodgers all take turns with Juan Soto?

We know that Soto wants to have a record breaking contract, but he simply doesn’t have the kind of value that Ohtani has. But what if the 4 prominent teams that are in on Soto decide to equally share the player.

Each team will contribute $200 million dollars and have a revolving schedule with who he plays for. The Yankees will have him next year, then the Red Sox, then the Mets, than the Dodgers and the cycle will repeat for 12 years.

Or we can do it lottery style, a ceremonial meeting with each team putting their team ball in a lottery machine. Then each year they lose a ball as they will naturally be picked and that year they will have Soto. So each team starts with 12 balls, and then each year they choose one and then it naturally gets smaller and smaller.

Another option suggested by another user:

This is a near perfect idea, with the obvious downside being the teams who draw him late in his career won’t be getting the same bang for their buck.

The remedy is easy: the teams cycle his services every month of every season. Multiple of his teams make it to October? No problem! It moves to a per game cycle and then he gets to stick it through with the last team standing.

Move over Yogi! This guy’s gonna need to grow a third hand for all the rings he’s gonna have!

This means all 4 teams get 3 playoff runs with Soto and can even retool their roster when their turn comes around. He would end up with a record setting $800 million dollar contract meaning he is happy. It also ensures he is with a competitive team every year as this is also important to him.

Blue Jays can also get him for spring training covering his vacation fees.

Would like to hear what others think of this idea? I think this would be good for baseball.

Thomas: Soto “ecstatic” after meeting with Dodgers

Seems the appeal of playing with Betts / Freeman / Ohtani might be hard to pass up

when were the last actual MLB fights/brawls

it seems nowadays and for the last 10 years if there is a "fight" it is a bunch of guys running on the field and playing a game of "hold me back" maybe there are some slightly aggressive shoves being thrown, when was the last time there was genuine fight in MLB like guys were throwing punches and seemed like they wanted to kill each other

Used game broken bat/how to see video

I bought a game used broken bat today, I verified the hologram but I’d like to see the video of it being broken. It was Jake Meyers of the Astros against Luis Severino of the Mets on June 30, 2024. But I can’t find the clip!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Rays future home in jeopardy due to hurricane repair costs

With the Rays new stadium in jeopardy, I think they should relocate out of Tampa. Where do you think they should go? My vote is Charlotte, NC. Montreal? Nashville would be cool too but I think they should get an expansion team.

OOops: Rays new stadium deal in trouble

Per the Tampa Bay Times, Pinellas County has already delayed one vote on its portion of financing, and that, in turn, has set back groundbreaking. And, another vote scheduled for today also will apparently be delayed. And, the delay in starting construction is already reportedly adding $$$ to the cost.

“Last month, the County Commission upended our ballpark agreement by not approving their bonds, as they promised to do,” team owner Stuart Sternberg said. “That action sent a clear message that we had lost the county as a partner.

“The future of baseball in Tampa Bay became less certain after that vote.”

Details of how this is playing out, and how Hurricane Milton was and is a factor:

In the hurricane’s wake, October bond votes scheduled by the City Council ($287.5 million) and County Commission ($312.5 million) were postponed for a month. The timeline was already tight for a planned groundbreaking in early 2025, and the bond votes were supposed to go hand-in-hand with requirements the Rays have been working toward. The team needed to have its $700 million financing plan in place, secure a $100 million loan from Major League Baseball and have 50% of the design documents completed, among other things. It was a cascading series of benchmarks with virtually no wiggle room.

The issue was exacerbated when the delays took the council and commission beyond the Nov. 5 election that altered the makeup of both entities. Now, it’s not simply a delay on bonds but a reexamination of the deal itself, led by commissioners Chris Latvala and Dave Eggers. What was once a 5-2 vote in favor of the redevelopment project by the commission is now potentially a 4-3 vote against it.

“If we want to take our time, we can take our time,” Latvala said Thursday morning at a commission workshop. “I don’t, you know, I don’t think we should be rushed. And if the bonds fall through, so be it.”

And how that is affecting that dinero bottom line issue:

Latvala’s saber-rattling and the bond delays caused the Rays to push the pause button on Tuesday with their development partner (Hines), architect (Populous) and other entities that were in the process of setting up close to 100 employees to relocate to Pinellas County for extended stays.

While it’s possible to amend the development deal or renegotiate a new one with city and county approval, the financing component would change if the ballpark’s opening is pushed back to 2029, or later.

Even a one-year delay could cause construction costs to increase. On a $1.3 billion stadium, a 10% increase would mean an extra cost of $130 million for the Rays. The team is also looking at significant losses of revenue for as many as four seasons (2025-2028) while the team plays in smaller-capacity minor league stadiums if Tropicana is not repaired.

Oh, those fixes to the Trop? The paper says throw that $56M price tag you've heard out the window.

On top of that, there is growing concern that planned repairs of Tropicana Field’s roof will greatly exceed an initial $56 million estimate, and the St. Petersburg City Council could balk at approving the expenditure for a stadium slated for demolition in three to four years.

There's other politics involved, including the Phillies' spring training stadium at Clearwater, connections to Latvala and more. It's a big long read.

For 2026? If Trop repairs get hung up, at a minimum, the team could look beyond Steinbrenner:

If Tropicana Field is not repaired, it would not be surprising if the Rays opted to find a Triple-A ballpark with a larger capacity outside of Florida for 2026.

And, this and more have Sternberg using the "r-word" again. More on that at MLBTR. It's memes and shitposts to say Oakland, but more seriously, where WOULD he try to go?

Who is that player right at the median of not quite a Hall of Famer? Like, if you're ranking all-time players, guys above him are HOFers and guys below him are not...

This is a tough question so I'm interested to hear thoughts. Some names for consideration:
- Mark Buehrle
- Will Clark
- Keith Hernandez
- Kevin Brown
- Magglio Ordóñez

Def lots of others, no doubt

Soto really worth $40 plus mil?

Call me crazy but would anyone really want to be paying Soto who will probably be a DH in 5 years, $40 plus million dollars? (I know this is a hot take)

Why dosent baseball just have one rookie of the year award

I know there’s an AL ROTY and NL ROTY but why is this. All the other major sports only have one ROTY and it dosent seem right to watch a guy like Luis Gil get credited with a ROTY simply because he plays in the AL as opposed to someone like Jackson Merrill who performed better than Gil but didn’t get national league ROTY because Paul Skenes is in the national league
