Go figure...
Just thought I'd post about my experience with the Sac Fanfest overall and specifically the autograph portion.
Overall, it was a terrible day weatherwise but a surprising amount of people showed up.
There were a lot of different tables for different things and giving things out. The biggest highlights for me were of course Posey's surprise appearance, the plinko board and the special events table where they were showing off some actual special event items for this upcoming year. (The Peanuts jacket was SO cute)
For autographs specifically, show up EARLY. I was through the doors maybe 20 minutes after they had opened and the line for one of the autograph sessions had already ran past the queue and went alongside the building.
The line seemed well run and organized but some people weren't following the rules about the number of items that could be signed and photos. They allowed photos but no "posing" for photos and I guess some people defined that differently...
No one working the event seemed to know who was coming next so it's a bit of a crapshoot on who you get by the time you reach the front of the line. I missed Logan Webb by about 15 minutes and ended up getting Fitzy's so not too bad! I heard the other station had two players signing at the same time but obviously didn't make it over there in time for that.
I didn't end up going to the other autograph station since that line was way worse than the first one I went to. They also had a separate line for season ticket members but I'm not one so I didn't want to deal with that mess.
Staff seemed friendly and helpful but again they didn't seem to know who was showing up when or when they would be leaving.
Don't assume you can come back to the autograph lines when they're shorter as I felt the lines never seemed to get shorter.
It got really windy towards the end so I dipped out before they ended so don't know what they did for the long lines still there for the autographs!
Anyways, what was everyone's experience with fanfest/the autographs?
My biggest criticism about Farhan was that he went along with the ownership groups desire that they never tried rebuild and just tried to stay relevant. I really wish they'd just be honest with fans and admit that that's what they need to do. I'm not saying purposely lose 100+ games and tank. This is still a .500 team as is, but its finally time to start allowing some players to go through the aches/pains of developing at the MLB level. You can't have every prospect be 25-27 before you even give them a shot, but sadly that's how old most of their pitching prospects are.
They have a ton of players on the pitching side that need to get MLB experience, which is my biggest criticism of signing Verlander. I just don't get signing a 42 yo with a 5.31 ERA last year when you have so many 25-27 yo starters you claim are MLB ready. But that one signing aside, it will be good to start seeing some of these arms more over the course of the season because every team is going to use 8+ starters over the course of a season.
On the position side, seeing JHL develop, getting more opportunities for players like Luciano, Matos, McCray, and Meckler. Seeing if Ramos and Fitzgerald are actual longer term players or just flukes. They could all bust, but if Ramos and Fitz are JHL are all decent and even one more position player emerges, its still something to really build on with Chapman and Adames in the fold.
They need a season to evaluate and take stock of all these guys. And frankly, its going to be fun to see it all play out. I have no expectation of them making the playoffs (though you never know with the WC race these days) but its finally refreshing that they will at least hopefully be giving some of these guys more MLB experience and hopefully sorting out what they have for the future.
I’m taking a trip to SF this summer and plan to take in a Sunday afternoon game. We’re looking at View Box seats in from 313 to 318 for about $75. Is this a good choice, or would you recommend a different area in that price range? Any lunch spots rec’s or anything else to know?
TIA!
Edit: game is against the Braves, for price reference
Was shopping this weekend and saw it so grabbed one. $79.99 for two lower level seats, not bad.
Just check online first for available games and seats if you’re looking for a game in particular. Was a little disappointed with the selection this year and I noticed some I clicked into had an odd number of seats available and it doesn’t left you leave the one.
Would you rather the Giants lose 100 games but go 12-0 against the dodgers, or win 100 games but go 0-15 against the dodgers including a playoff sweep?
Edit: Or (for those who are so upset by this) yet another season of profound mediocrity?
What impact do you think new pitching coach JP Martinez will have? I'm hoping he can help get Kyle Harrison and Doval back on track. It seems like the Giants are banking on internal improvement since Price was a bad fit for the team.
I've seen r/49ers and many other football subs doing this. So basically on Day 1, people in the comments say a good Giants player that is loved by fans (current or OAT just had to play a minimum of 1 game for the Giants). The next day, the player with the most upvoted Giants player gets put on the grid and the people in the comments say a Average Giants player that is loved by fans. So on and so forth until the grid gets filled. Should we do it?
I co-host a Giants podcast and we always have a trivia question in each episode. I Iike to dig deep or find questions that cause a little bit of a reaction. A recent question, for example, was Who is the only Giant in the Oracle Park (Pac Bell, AT&T, etc) era to steal 30 or more bases in a season? Answer: Dave Roberts stole 31 bases for the Giants in 2007.
What are some of your favorite Giant trivia factoids?
And how much would you think is a good deal for him?
If it were Eldridge, Villar/Wisely/Schmitt, and maybe one of any of the younger pitchers like Wisenhunt, and we could sign him to a 10 year $500m extension, I’d be thrilled. Easily the best infield in the league for the next 3-5 years. And with young speed and defense already in the outfield… seems like a no brainer to me.
Daughter and I are going to FanFest in West Sac today. Is anyone familiar with the parking situation? I would normally just figure it out but the rain has me nervous 😬.
I'm particularly looking for any details/articles about the 1970s team.
Here's how:
The Pirates and Cubs had a game on April 20, 1986 that was suspended because of darkness (!) after the 13th. They resumed play Aug. 11, after Pirates called up Bonds on May 30.
Here's a look:
Being Barry, he entered in the 17th and hit a 2-run single in the 17th. Being the GOAT, his AB had the highest WPA for any Pirates play in the game:
... and so they won.
Q: Does that mean Bonds got a hit in his first at-bat?
Can we write to haters like this and tell her to stuff off?
Does anyone happen to know how the first 15k ppl get to win the free giveaways during special events. Basically what I’m asking is what gate do ppl go to or is there a specific floor etc ? I’m hoping to get this upcoming seasons Hello kitty merch 😆 pls
Many thanks !
Going to Fan Fest in Sac this weekend. Any advice for a first timer?
Hey everyone. I'm finally able to go to spring training and I'm looking to hear some recs for things I can't miss or tips on when to show up to the stadium, inside stufflike that. We'll be in Scottsdale only three days and have tickets to the first two games of the exhibition season. Thanks ahead of time!
Hi Giants fans,
I am baseball fan whose hometown is out of U.S. mainland.
I plan to start my stadium chase in 2025.
My goal is to collect paper ticket.
Could you still get paper ticket at box office in 2024 season?
Any tips to get one?
I found two articles posted in 2022.
