I've painted my Primaris Intecessors (4th project since i started my adventure with MIniature Painting in January this year) and i'm wondering what to varnish them with. I've varnished one of my Eliminators with Gloss and it's too damn shiny for my taste, I like Satin but wanted to try something else as well. I've heard that one could achieve a matte finish by mixing satin and gloss varnishes, but i don't know how true is that. Should i just buy a matte varnish (i use Vallejo varnishes) or can i get one by mixing the aformentioned two?
Also, shout-out to the best mini holder - a dissolvable vitamins tube filled with magnets. Keeps the magnetised bases incredibly well. Bonus points for clack noise it makes when attaching a miniature on it.
I'm wanting to get back into painting, but humidity is getting high here (55-60% on a good day, 80%+ on most days). Can anyone recommend some spray primers that are more forgiving of high humidity? I'm hoping I can get some, do some priming, and work on those minis for the next few months until the temperature and humidity become more reasonable!
**edit** I'm looking for a dark gray and a black, if that makes a difference
Hi all. I am looking to maybe step up the types of brushes I've been buying. I have mostly been rocking Bovulo brand packs that are like ~$8.00 on amazon, and they do a pretty decent job for being so cheap, they just don't have much in the way of longevity. Like, by the time I've finished maybe 6 or so models, the tips have started to lose their shape and split a little. So just looking for recommendations for something a little bit more long lasting without breaking the band. The kind of thing you might suggest to someone who has made it past the beginner stage and is heading towards intermediate. If it helps, I use predominantly speed paints/contrast paints, and paint mostly Marvel Crisis Protocol miniatures. (Though I'm having a lot of fun just painting, completely irrespective of the game, so I may branch out to painting other games/minis soon)
Hey all!
I plan to use a matte varnish over gloss for my first (terrain) project ever, with the gloss only being there for protection. The actual looks I'm after are more matte (satin at most).
The specific sprays are Vallejo Gloss spray varnish and Army Painter matte spray varnish.
Will the matte get rid of the gloss added by the first varnish layer or will it not be strong enough? I will add the varnish to dungeon terrain so a gloss finish would not be ideal.
Thanks in advance!
I found that scale color navy blue is pretty similar but I'm trying to find a spray can to make the process faster (got to paint a lot of figures)
CnC very welcome! 1+ year into the hobby, work mostly done with airbrush

Lamp I have right now is just not bright enough and definitely doesn't have a cri of 90
I have multiple games waiting to be painted, but the catch is that I haven't painted anything in decades so I consider myself a beginner. The main game I want to paint is Cthulhu Wars but I'll first try with Mansions of Madness.
I really like the concept of speedpaints but are they suitable for large minis as in Cthulhu Wars? I learnt about slap chop and it seems ok but I'm worried about Hastur: will the speedpaint stick to its large smooth surface? Also I think only white primer should be used when painting with yellow?
So the main question is should I go for normal paints or speedpaints as a beginner when I aim to paint large miniatures? I'm not into fine detail, I just want to get them colored.
Hello, my Gellerpox figure has turned out too bright and cartoonish. What can I do to make it look a bit less flashy and more grim?
I’m somewhat new to painting. I was going for a lava monster designs to practice warm colors. Any advice on how to approach this project?
Wanted to give my orcs for Warhammer the old world a unique feel, so my lore for the force is that they are orc gang that have taken control of a city and their warpaint are the gang tattoos. But I'm a bit stumped on how to capture that location with the basing without just doing generic cobblestone, does anyone have any good ideas, tips, or materials? As I've had a look online and I can't really find many resources about making fantasy village bases which aren't just cobble roads
