This is the spot for all types of tabletop terrain. From D&D to Infinity, we'll take all comers. We love to see what our fellow Redditors are making for their games. Post your work in progress projects and completed works. The regulars here are always happy to answer any questions you may have about materials or methods!
Why was my post flagged as spam and deleted? This sub uses an auto moderator to clean up spam. If you make a new post on r/terrainbuilding and your account has less than 100 Karma it will be flagged as spam. Moderators will manually approve terrain related posts throughout the day by checking the queue. This is to combat the increasing issue of spam. Once your account is above the 100 Karma threshold your account will not have this issue. We do apologize for any inconvenience as your original post may appear hours after it was originally posted.
Before You Post Kickstarter Links are frowned upon: If you are the creator of the Kickstarter - by all means post your work in progress photos, some of your painted final products, and please talk about what you're trying to accomplish. Members of the community can easily locate your product by clicking on your Reddit Profile or using Google. This rule has been implemented for the continuous Kickstarter topics that are posted that contain a simple link with a 3d render and it's Kickstarter goals.
Auction Links will be removed. No direct links to eBay or your Etsy store. You can mention that the piece of terrain is for sale in the comments and members of the community can direct message you for the link. r/terrainbuilding is not responsible for any financial transactions that occur through comments or personal messages. Be smart! Please check out r/miniswap
Offering Services: Less is More Do not post frequent topics offering services or links to your commission website – these will be deleted. r/terrainbuilding is not responsible for any financial transactions that occur through comments or personal messages. Be smart! Please check out r/brushforhire for hiring other artists through a better avenue than this sub.
3D Printing
You are not allowed to post unpainted 3D Prints or advertise for 3D print kickstarters. We allow the creator or pledgers of kickstarters, commission painters, and YouTube personality to post their videos, products, and services but within reason. This sub can easily turn into an advertisement list of products, webstores, or STL download sites. We want to keep the homegrown forum community vibe thats welcoming to new players without spamming them with products to buy.
e.g. User crossposts a new render every other day in blender posts of variations D&D furniture on ten other subs.
This is disallowed The cross-posts are really low effort
e.g. Artist creates a free STL and prints it out and paints it with a basic drybrush
this is allowed
If someone is PAINTING 3d prints.... they should absolutely be able to post their terrain. 3D printing is probably the future and there shouldn't be any grievances against those who print.

My empire of unfinished green lol.
Planning on painting the trenches with a Modge podge base then using a grout mixture to emulate mud.
Planning on carving stones into the bridge and supports, basing black, and then dry brushing gray. Used bondo to seal cracks on supports which is not idea but I think will still be workable.
Planning on using these for 40k, killteam, Legion, and Turnip28. Any advice? Is the bridge too tall?
I have resin and a pressure pot. How would I make the explody bits that chilled into walls of glass?
Hi fellow terrain nerds 😊✨
I am building a diy static grass applicator, and since Negative ion Generators are scarce/almost unavailable in my country, I am going with a High Voltage Generator. I know it should be as good as a N.I.G.
-But the wiring is different (see attached image)
On a Neg. ion gen. There are usually +/- in and +/-/ground out
On my HVG there are +/- in and 2x HV + out
My questions are:
Can i just use the -/N from my 12v input to both the HVG input and to my crocodile clamp? And the HVG (15kv) +/L to my applicator sieve?
Or am i totally wrong here?
And: how about the missing ground wire, is that important?
Thanks in advance!

Can you recommend any sources or designs for improved guides and fences to use with the Proxxon Thermocut benchtop hot wire cutter?
Would like to use the full height of the hot wire without my pieces wobbling. People use add-on fences that look like aftermarket kits, but what are the product names?
Are there products available to purchase or maybe an open-source design? Even if it's just the design files, I can have a friend 3d print the pieces or use my woodworking tools to fabricate something.
Thanks for any suggestions.
EDIT: Thank you for all the great suggestions. Checking 'em out!
Hi guys, I do not have a picture yet because camera is bad, but I recently received a big foam box which I cut "ruins" for 40k. I got 8 big ruins (2 or 3 story high) and some walls to completr the board. The idea is to play with them soon enough (2 weeks) at local store because we kinda need some more terrain feature (more and more players are coming to play and we only got enough for 2 full size board and 1 Combat Patrol terrain).
So I cut everything to size, and now, I'm wondering what I could use to kinda seal the whole foam for a few game and then be able to work them to be more enjoyable and cool. I found there is some spray that I can apply or "paint". The main goal is for the foam to not fall into pieces in front of us (its is a solid and thick one, but still, losing bits everytime in the store will be annoying).
Anyone has any idea please? :)
I figured I’d ask y’all, as you seem to have a better grip on getting through complex recreations.
I’m trying to make some stalagmites in order to make some almost alkaline looking caves (think Luray Caverns).
My initial thought was using Hot Glue layered on top of itself into mildly cone shaped stalagmites followed by coating them in a texture paint, but I’m not super sure about if there’s a better or more efficient way.
Any recommendations is helpful!
My prototype stone tiles. Look at https://www.tiktok.com/@plantain_jack?_t=8mV0uM37cPd&_r=1 for more. I’m making them actual 3 by 3 tiles now, since I missmeasured the first 4, and my pizza-box sized battle map got soaked in the rain. My new ones will also be more detailed.
Rounded stones of different sizes, I’m trying to build some stone houses, maybe a barn and a church, and eventually once I’m good enough a castle. Also I’m wondering if anyone sells miniature straw and/or medieval roof tiles for the roofs of these buildings. Any resources/ websites for terrain building are also welcome.
I'm probably trying to think of this the wrong way. Is it just normal western themed terrain? I'm used to AoS so I think of a particular faction to inspire the architecture. IS there even an architectural cue for weird west?
I'm almost certain that the 2 items will work together but I'd like to make sure before I waste any of this stuff trying to do it, it was rather expensive.
