This is the spot for all types of tabletop terrain. From D&D to Infinity, we'll take all comers. We love to see what our fellow Redditors are making for their games. Post your work in progress projects and completed works. The regulars here are always happy to answer any questions you may have about materials or methods!
Why was my post flagged as spam and deleted? This sub uses an auto moderator to clean up spam. If you make a new post on r/terrainbuilding and your account has less than 100 Karma it will be flagged as spam. Moderators will manually approve terrain related posts throughout the day by checking the queue. This is to combat the increasing issue of spam. Once your account is above the 100 Karma threshold your account will not have this issue. We do apologize for any inconvenience as your original post may appear hours after it was originally posted.
Before You Post Kickstarter Links are frowned upon: If you are the creator of the Kickstarter - by all means post your work in progress photos, some of your painted final products, and please talk about what you're trying to accomplish. Members of the community can easily locate your product by clicking on your Reddit Profile or using Google. This rule has been implemented for the continuous Kickstarter topics that are posted that contain a simple link with a 3d render and it's Kickstarter goals.
Auction Links will be removed. No direct links to eBay or your Etsy store. You can mention that the piece of terrain is for sale in the comments and members of the community can direct message you for the link. r/terrainbuilding is not responsible for any financial transactions that occur through comments or personal messages. Offering Services: Less is More Do not post frequent topics offering services or links to your commission website – these will be deleted. r/terrainbuilding is not responsible for any financial transactions that occur through comments or personal messages. 3D Printing
You are not allowed to post unpainted 3D Prints or advertise for 3D print kickstarters. We allow the creator or pledgers of kickstarters, commission painters, and YouTube personality to post their videos, products, and services but within reason. This sub can easily turn into an advertisement list of products, webstores, or STL download sites. We want to keep the homegrown forum community vibe thats welcoming to new players without spamming them with products to buy.
e.g. User crossposts a new render every other day in blender posts of variations D&D furniture on ten other subs.
This is disallowed The cross-posts are really low effort
e.g. Artist creates a free STL and prints it out and paints it with a basic drybrush
this is allowed
If someone is PAINTING 3d prints.... they should absolutely be able to post their terrain. 3D printing is probably the future and there shouldn't be any grievances against those who print.

Just got this insert (5x4x1.5") from an Amazon package and I haven't done any terrain building for awhile.
I recently switched from 15mm to 28mm WW2 minis and I'm building a North African campaign.
Any ideas to make this into a fun piece of terrain?
Bonus if you have ideas for supplies I need. I also love watching terrain videos:)
Edit: forgot to post photos the first time!
Hi everyone :) I’m new to building terrains and I wanted to make a dice jail. It’s my second time ever making anything like this so it isn’t beautiful but does anyone know how to mitigate this pattern? I use regular styrofoam and sometimes my cut edges are flat and other times they look like this. Suggestions?
First time trying to tackle a large set piece, wanted something that I could use for easily throwing together combat scenarios without a ton of plot for my party (my kids), for those times I want to throw an interesting encounter at them and I don't have a ton of story planned.
Also playing with the idea of a PvP style gladiatorial arena session.
Has anyone an idea how and in which style I can finish this windmill with wings? Optional could be that they are movable.
I made a small house and finished the roof base. Its a conical roof. I tried using ends of those wooden ice cream sticks of all sizes and ive had a bunch of problems. The thing is, i start to layer them and it goes well until i notice the fact ive layered them away from the base and they are going further and further away from the ending spike. Its like you want two lines to touch in the end, but they end up being parallel to eachother, i dont know how else to describe it. Ive seen someone make tiles in rows out of thin cardboard and stick them around the base for each layer. The problem with that is that the cardboard row wont bend around the base without ripping between the tiles. Any advice?
I'm trying to teach myself how to do rock textures on foam. I'm also fairly new to painting, so I'd like some feedback on the textures look and the coloring.
I’m working on my first 4’x4’ board and looking for flocking and sealing supplies. Thanks!
My son and I usually play at home and we are tired of tupperware terrain. We decided that tomorrow we're going to the hobby store to grab some foam and fashion it into buildings.
We have never done this before. I figured I would get some of that pink foam if they have it a Joann's or Michaels, then some adhesive and razor knives and just build.
If there is something I am missing, or better stuff to get, or easy ways to do this, I would love to know about it. We don't need anything super pretty and we don't want to break the bank.
Planning on building a man o war for games of age of sigmar (the concept behind the battles is a man o war besieged by smaller vessels from other factions).
Planning on making the man o war somewhere between 3 and 4 foot long, about 2 foot wide roughly. To achieve this, I need to be able to bend wooden strips, and I was wondering how to manage that.
Anyone have any tips or tricks?
Looking to make my display case pop a bit with a fiery warp portal terrain piece to put behind my Legion of the Damned minis. If anyone could help or point me in the right direction, I’d greatly appreciate it!
After discovering blue stuff thermal putty my imagination exploded. I’ve been using it heavily with green stuff epoxy putty to pull details off of my expensive GW Kharadron Overlords models to add to cheap or homemade terrain pieces to better mimic the faction’s style. Eg: turning a generic fantasy dwarf brewery into a KO kantina.
The blue stuff seems equally capable of casting larger molds though that green stuff seems less appropriate for. I’d like to cast one of my larger model’s balloon endrins (a 28mm vehicle sized hot air balloon battleship)and turn it into a crashed hulk scatter terrain piece. Any advice for a material more appropriate to casting such a large piece?
I’d like to basically duplicate the upper hemisphere of the circled sphere, slightly deform it as the material dries, then slap it on a small polystyrene base and paint it up like debris.
