This is a 501st list that I plan to run on my first tournament. I really wanted to utilize the 501st since I don’t see them get too much love, and I really liked the idea of fielding 4 arcs. Tactics - so from general play this is what I’ve found with this list:
Utilizing “Leaders of the 501st” R1 is what allows me to got that Indomitable early game, plus with practically every unit having scout, this list is great for Recover the Supplies and Hostage Exchange (to get my units closer to both hostages). Also, War Weary is pointless for most my army since all units (except Fives) is courage 2, not affecting my play but could be detrimental for my opponent.
For intercept the transmission, I’ve seen echo play such a pivotal role for me, especially with rapid reinforcements. He just stays in the back lines and holds the home objective, and since it’s a full unit they can hide while Echo throws pod shots at other units towards the middle. And with all the clones staying together, they can invade the center objective like nothing.
The biggest downside I’ve seen so far with this list is going against saber users. The reason I say saber is because I’ve had units like Sabine come in close and deal quite a blow to my arc troops line. I only played one game against grievous, but that saber bomb card of his really took out most my lines in just round 3. Definitely not a positive start to this list, but it’s had good points. If I’m able to hold my ground after round two, then the games go smooth sailing. For instance, I played a game against a Blizzard Force Vader and 4 bikes list. While having my arcs focus their fire on the bikes as they approached, I delt with them pretty easily. But the pivotal moment was managing to keep Vader docile most of the game. Now it can’t be clear stats, since round 2 (playing Payload) Vader managed to take 5 wounds with an arc pistol shot (thanks to take that Clankers) and fire support with fives. After that, the Vader player chose to keep him down low behind cover until round 4 when my troops drew near to him and the objective. Overall, that game went nicely in my hands, and I trusted my boys in blue.
Thoughts before post: I believe that not having Anakin is a bit of a sad addition since I won’t have a unit to properly dispose/deal with melee units. And every time I use Rex, it just feels like he dies too early for me to use. Overall, I like this build but would like to hear opinions on how to make this better (especially when going against armor and anti-gunline lists)
Mandos shooting at 1-2 is a bad idea. Bus with only a medic is a bad idea. Pykes with Whip and Frags is a bad idea.
Gunline it is!
Gar Saxon got sniper rifle, to allow him to engage with targets at safe distance. He has Cache:Dodge and Transponder to get him Aim or Dodge. In case of melee unit coming at him he got Flame Projector to set them alight, in case of Jedi... we hope for the best and curse our bad positioning.
Mandos Commandos go Marksman. To help with 1-3 alpha strike they have Jetpack Rockets, so that one guy can fire a rocket, Marksman does his thing and 2 guys add their carbines to the pool. This gives 2 red, 3 black and 3 white dice, with blast, Critical 1 and Precise 1.
Pyke Capo got Improvised and was reworked from close support unit to long range mastermind. Keeps himself at far 3 of his courage bubble and recovers when he uses his Improvised.
Pykes got Dirsuptors now! 4 long range supports is good.
Truck is trucking along with Frenzied Gunner, Quad Laser (I lacked Impact last games badly) and Astromech to double up the 7 dice pool of glory into something that needs killing.
Hostages got scrapped, Payload and Supplies were decent, added Sabotage and Intercept too as they may be better than Bombing Run for my brain to handle.
Think it looks better for my needs.
So, I’ve always wondered about what to do with the Mercenary units who can issue orders, like the Rogues (bounty hunters). For example, with Cad Bane’s CC “I’m In Control Now” cad bane issues an order to himself, but where does the second order go? Allies of Convenience doesn’t specify if this works with a merc issuing (if they don’t have allies of convenience) and the rules say orders can only be issued to their respected sub-faction.
I'm 3D printing my way into this game (no longer sold in my country) and got my first squad of stormtroopers painted. I consider it a half-decent paint job at most, so any advice here is welcome!
These are the last of my commandos for now. Will probably get some more eventually. But have as many as I'll ever need for play now.
Hi I'm new to SWL and coming from 20+ years of WH40k, played SWL the other day with a mate and had a ton of fun, he played Clones and I played Droids.
The rules are so much nicers and the models are great and the best part is everything you need for a unit comes in the box, no screwing over you customers GW! ;)
I've decided on Shadow Collective (to begin with lol), obliviously not painted or based :)
And he is expanding his clones.
Was thinking about modeling "Nite Owl" Helmets for them, even though lore wise wouldn't make much sense.
Ready to get tabled now lol
From TLD, just posting for visibility:
Announcing the LVO Invitational
We are excited to announce a new Invitational System for Star Wars Legion at the Las Vegas Open (LVO). Over the coming weeks you will see announcements from us about the new system, qualifying, dates, format, etc. In the meantime, we are hard at work developing a central hub website for TOs and players alike for LVOI event rules, LVOI player and event rules packets, application info, qualifier event schedule, player points list and more!
Generally speaking, placing high in a large qualifying tournament, winning a qualifying tournament, or earning enough qualifying points, will earn you a spot in the main LVO Legion Invitational. Additionally, there will be a Last Chance Open at LVO for those without invites to try to qualify. LVO will still feature the Doubles event you all have come to love.
Stay tuned for more details! We are excited to offer the LVO Invitation to Legion players
I may finally get around to assembling and painting my storm troopers and I was curious what the wisdom is for assembling before or after painting.
Some of the arm poses really seem like it'd be hard to get everything painted.
Should I paint stuff before assembling?
Bonus points for paint recommendations for the storm troopers. Currently have some Vallejo stuff, but specific colors to use for the white would be appreciated.
Hi! newer player here, played probably less than 10 games so far, playing Seperatists for each one. my question is, is there any reason i SHOULDNT just give HQ Uplink to all of my B1s, B2s, and Droidekas? not only do i get a faceup token, they never have to worry about their AI trait. Am I missing something or should I use this upgrade for my droids, like, always? thank you!
