DLo just declined his $18.6M player option with the Lakers and will enter free agency. While the plurality of likelihoods point towards him staying with the Lakers, it’s possible he’ll go elsewhere.
Plenty of you - and I lean this way too - will say hell no to DLo. I wanted to point a few things out:
His shooting the last two years has improved significantly, jumping from career shooting splits of 42% / 35% up to 46% / 40% (FG%/3pt%). Whereas he used to be sort of a jack, he’s become an elite shooter on volume.
He’s most likely still a defensive liability. He posted a defensive rating of 118 this year, and has never had a good defensive rating period. Those who watch him know he’s kind of a pushover on d.
Fit check - he’s an incomplete fit, to say the least. Imo he plays best off-ball, and we need another guard who we can run the offense through. His liabilities on defense would be flamed by the city in the postseason. And he probably won’t be cheap.
So what’s the right price? On one hand I think that paying him $~12M/year for a medium term contract wouldn’t be a terrible choice. On the other hand I think that if we pay another guard big bucks, it would be so we have another playmaker to run offense through. Also hard to imagine him declining a $18M option just to land on a smaller contract. What do yall think?
I’ve concluded we should throw the bag at OG this offseason
Any info out there on the end of the season clearance sale at WFC? Don’t want to miss it.
Genuine question. After watching guys like Sam Hauser, Bojan Bogdanovic, and Isaiah Joe contribute, why the FUCK couldn't we get a top 5 shooter in the world to contribute?
Every year Joel has come into a new season with an improved skill he has clearly worked on. We have seen it with his jump shot, his post play and just last year with his playmaking ability. Maxey is a young All-Star and coming off a MIP year, but he still has plenty he could get better at.
I would personally love to see Embiid put more focus in on defense, rebounding and positioning. That obviously was a main factor in our loss to the Knicks though I know Joel couldn’t jump much. Also Joel needs to slim down a bit to reduce the wear and tear.
Maxey needs to improve on his playmaking if he continues to run point for us. I’d also love to see him play a little more under control when driving to the rim. He is an amazing finisher but he looks so out of control he never gets a whistle in his favor.
What I really want to see happen next year is Embiid focus more on defense and Maxey take the reins of the offense.
What do you want to see them improve on?
Talking about our needs in the upcoming offseason we all know that only two spots on the team are a lock. We need a couple of forwards and a guard that can handle the ball.
HEAR ME OUT:
PG: Brogdon
SG: Maxey
SF: Oubre
PF: Grant
C: Embiid
We get The President to handle the ball, he’s a perfect fit for what we need. Grant over the last two seasons averages 40% from three on 5.5 attempts, he’s a perimeter-focused player and our rebounding would still suck as I feel the one of two flaws of this lineup. Other being that we got three injury prone guys on the squad.
Bench being: Lowry, Payne, Melton, RC4, Martin, Batum, Drummond, drafted player
Even if one of the three guys misses a regular season game feels like we’re still equipped to handle most teams out there.
Rebounding will again be a huge issue, as Grant might be the worst rebounding four of all time, and Embiid is a below average rebounding center in second halfs of games. Could we overcome those issues with better game planning?

I’m glad the NBA is sticking to their word and calling fouls on these. No place for it in Silver’s NBA!
I’m probably over reacting but I’ve seen too much of him tripping over his own feet and a whistle blows
*One obvious assumption for these all of the questions is that Maxey has to also be signed to be max/near-max
If we were to sign a new free agent to a max or near-max, could we still take in another max/near-max contract via a trade?
If we signed someone to a max/near-max, could we take back multiple $10-20 million contracts via individual trades for one/two 1sts, or would we be limited? If so, to how many? (assumes no max contract signing)
How exactly does our cap space allow us to trade for max/near-max players? Do we basically sign & trade a player (with picks and maybe a paul reed contract) who would go to that team in free agency if they could?
Greatly appreciate any answers and please let me know if you know any good resources for breaking down all the Sixers cap space scenarios
Dr J, AI, and Moses are the three im debating between
Here's a trade idea that may solves a couple of problems that the Sixers have.
My idea is to trade anything random (a conditional second round pick) for Wiggins/Green and whatever future draft assets that you can squeeze out of Golden State as the price for fixing their cap issue.
New starting lineup:
G: Maxey
G: ?????
F: Wiggins
F: Draymond
C: Joel
Here's why it makes sense for the Warriors: The Warriors are trying to take advantage of the couple of good years that Curry has left, and perhaps trying to retain Klay with a decent-ish deal without killing themselves financially. Wiggins and Green both can be good players, but arguably need a change of scenery, and the Warriors probably wouldn't mind dumping that financial burden and whatever tax implications that they represent.
Here's why it makes sense for the Sixers: I defy you to tell me I'm wrong about this: Dray and Wiggins combined check in just about every box for what the Sixers need to get in the offseason.
Backup center that won't crush the Sixers lead while filling in for a few minutes while Joel takes a breather? That's Draymond.
Athletic forward that can run the break and keep up with Maxey? That's Wiggins.
Guy that can throw an entry pass to Joel or participate in an offense as a secondary ballhandler and relieve the pressure on Maxey? That's Draymond. Short of LeBron, there's probably nobody better in the league than Dray conceivably available.
Guy that can set a solid screen in a motion offense? That's Draymond, big-time. It's been since Furkan Aldemir was the only Furkan in our hearts that we had a guy who could do this at such a high level. He'd do for Maxey's career a lot of what he did for Curry's career.
Guy that can throw an occasional hard foul and serve as an enforcer when other teams get rowdy in the playoffs? That's Draymond, and IMO something that the Sixers desperately need to get through a really tough Eastern conference next year.
Guy that can get in his own teammates' faces in the guts of a playoff game when they're acting like they want to lose? That's Draymond. And believe me, if we ever see the Sixers giving up in another game 6 or 7, we'll want him there.
Quality, willing perimeter shooters? IMO, Draymond has become an adequate shooter for a 4/5 that can keep the opposition honest. Wiggins had a down year last year, but was a quality and willing shooter through most of his GSW tenure. I'd bet on him returning to the norm with his family problem behind him and a full offseason to get his conditioning back.
Improve the team defense? That's Draymond in a big way. Almost nobody communicates on defense better than him.
Here are some rebuttals to the potential arguments again this:
Thanks for reading my novel. I'm all for hearing logical critiques, but I think this idea would be interesting offseason approach that would be initially hated, but has the potential to lead up to an amazing roster.
As much as I have my reservations w/ Paul George, I agree with everything in this vid
Honestly Morey has a very tough offseason ahead of him. Insanely hard in my opinion.
First of all, we got two players on contract: RC4 and JoJo. Obviously we’re resigning Maxey and we got money to spend.
Most of our targets are unattainable and there’s at least 5 teams that can outbid us easily.
We’re not LA or Miami so people won’t choose to come here for the lifestyle.
Our team state isn’t ideal, we got a superstar who was hurt in 100% of playoffs he’s been in, Maxey who truly is a treasure…and RC4. We have no continuity, no winning culture, no proven leaders, no synergy and chemistry what so ever. How can we when half the roster gets flipped every six months…
Many players are scared of expectations, and we’re known by booing our own players if we’re down at the half of a random regular season game.. not that I want those players who would run from the grind but it is a factor to consider.
First of all why would someone like Batum choose to come back on a minimum? He can just as easily get that anywhere else and compete for a title on teams that had more success. Or a team that’s in LA, NY, etc. Why would he or any other guy that was on a minimum this year have any loyalty after 8 months or less on the team?
Teams that are thriving right now are very young, agile, physical.. we can’t shoot for veterans, we need young quality blood that will push the pace and I’m afraid that we won’t get it without massively overpaying for it.
Morey has to truly be a magician to find a way to make us into a contender this offseason, the clock is ticking on Embiid and if it ain’t next year I wonder if we’ll get any more chances with him.
A 7 foot forward who shoots around 7-9 threes per game, can rebound and rim protect a bit is the perfect player to add fit wise with the actual roster.
You can sit Embiid and still run a two man game with Maxey and Lauri as the 5, the guy is a shooter and the pick and pop would do wonders for maxey attacking the rim.
27 years old next week as well, so no problem with the long term commitment.
Tell me What do you guys think.
We will have different opinions, feel free to disagree or agree with me
Resign Maxey. If Maxey don't make All-NBA, it would probably be 5 year 204.5 million max extension.
Sign PG or LeBron to 3 year 120-135 million. This is a MUST imo. There are not a lot of good free agents, but if we pay PG or LeBron 40-45 million, we still have about 15 million. It will probably be an overpay, but these players will be better than Tobias Harris, and we can probably trade them away if it doesn't work out like Harden.
Trade for High Level Starters/Stars (Mikal or Lauri). For this to be possible, I'd assume we have to give up 3 first round picks (2026 OKC, 2028 Clippers Unprotected, our 2029 first) or even more, and we would give up Paul Reed to match salary.
Use the 16th pick to draft a 2-way wing, PF, or back-up center. I'd pick Zach Edey, Stephon Castle, Ja'Kobe Walter, or even Bronny if LeBron somehow comes to Philly.
Vet min/MLE wishlist: Nic Batum, RoCo, Cam Payne, Beasily, KJ Martin, Dinwiddie. There's probably more, but can't think of all on top of my head.
I'm aware that lots of Sixers fan want a "deep" roster after the Knicks shenanigan, but more I think about it, I think it was our starters who were terrible (Tobias), there's not a lot of good free agents available in the first place. I'd rather do this rather than resign Kelly Oubre or Buddy Hield for 15 million, or Drummond/Malik Monk for 10-15 million.
Let’s play a game of would you rather.
Trade four firsts for Mikal bridges but have more cap space to sign role players ( KCP, Royce O’Neal, Malik Beasley/ Malik monk )
Obviously mikal may not even be available for this price, but I think it’s worth that big of a price because of Mikals age and fit
Trade two 2 to 3 firsts in a 3 team deal for jimmy butler, (perhaps not have as much money for additional free agents, but target shooters none the less, like buddy Hield, Royce O’Neal)
I’m cool with bringing jimmy back but definitely would want more shooters on the team. (Jimmy doesn’t shoot threes)
Sign Paul George and have five firsts to deal for elite role players ( alex Caruso, deni advija)
I think a lot of the discourse around PG hasn’t been that fair to him. He would need to be our third best player on the team. 34 year old PG would fit into that role perfectly. I trust the first two to three years of the new deal he will still be very good in that role because he’s a very good shooter.
Tell me something I need to know
We need a role player that can on occasion go off and steal us a playoff game, who do you think could best fit this for us?
