The Boston Celtics are built for a championship run, but trading Jaden Springer could be a mistake that costs them the title. While he might not be the biggest name on the roster, his defensive versatility, energy, and ability to contribute off the bench are exactly what a championship team needs.
Springer is a tenacious perimeter defender who can disrupt opposing guards, which is crucial in a potential Finals matchup against teams like the Nuggets, Bucks, or even a healthy Suns squad. His defensive presence allows Boston to maintain intensity when key starters rest, something that could be the difference in a seven-game series.
Offensively, he’s still developing, but he brings hustle plays, transition scoring, and spot-up shooting that fit well alongside Boston’s stars. If the Celtics trade him for a short-term piece or a player who doesn’t fit their system, they risk losing valuable depth—something that has been their Achilles' heel in past playoff runs.
Championships aren’t just won by stars; they’re won by depth, defense, and role players stepping up when it matters most. Moving Springer could be the move that backfires when the Celtics need him the most.
Bontemps: One Memphis player to watch over the next week is guard Marcus Smart. League sources told me there has been plenty of discussion about the former Defensive Player of the Year in recent weeks.
With more than 100 playoff games under his belt, Smart could be an interesting option for playoff teams, though he has played only a combined 38 games overall across the past two seasons in Memphis due to a series of injuries and is currently out with an index finger injury on his right (shooting) hand. Smart's absence has created opportunities for young players such as Rookie of the Year contender Jaylen Wells, GG Jackson and Vince Williams Jr.
Memphis would also potentially benefit from opening up salary next summer to both get a contract extension done with Jackson Jr. and re-sign Santi Aldama. That all makes Smart's situation one to monitor.
Grizz looking to dump Smart 38 games into his tenure was absolutely on my Bingo Card. I stand by every word I said when we got rid of him: "I’m super interested to see if his career rondos into a journeyman from here.. I think we sold high on Smart. I get why Memphis traded for him and maybe it will work out as well as trading for Tony Allen, but I think he’s a puzzling player and could be difficult to get the most out of. Wouldn’t be surprised if a couple years from now we are seeing Smart struggling to get minutes. I also don’t think he does shit for their culture. I think his leadership and maturity are dramatically overrated."
Loved Marcus and his intangibles, but the simple fact remains that in a league that prioritizes offense from the guard position, not many teams have the system and talent to stomach a lead guard shooting 37% from the field and 32% from three.
Of course he is. No one compares to JT. What do you guys think?

I'm looking for a good Celtics podcast to listen to a couple times a week - I'm thinking something in the style of Morning Bru, where they record a couple episodes a week, typically between 40-60 minutes in length, and almost always directly after a game. What are you recommendations?
Just announced on TNT that he made the all star team! Well deserved.
Adding more text to get around automod since this was deleted the first time.
According to his ESPN page, Pritchard has made 154 three-pointers this season after last night's win against the Bulls. Just an interesting stat I thought would be fun to share. He made 2 last night and 5 against Houston, meaning he started the week tied with his last-season total.
He's shooting a lot more 3's this semester compared to last; 73.5% of his attempts this year are 3's (369/502) vs. 60.1% last year (382/635). Seems unlikely he'll break 300 for the regular season, as we're already at 47 games, but maybe in the playoffs.
I don’t know if there is anything this man can’t do
He started off the season playing undeniable MVP basketball. As of late just seems like he’s struggling with putting the ball in the basket.
I have us as the clear favorites in the east but I don’t think we can repeat if he doesn’t snap back into playing how he did earlier in the season. Trust me I know he’s not the only inconsistent one, but I consider him to be the head of the snake.

Silver mentions going to 10 minute quarters to match what they are doing outside of the NBA.
This could have a lot of impact to roster construction because of the need of fewer players to soak up minutes.
