Good morning!
George Kirby turns 27 today! The Mariners righty was drafted by the Mets in the 32nd round of the 2016 draft but did not sign. The Mariners drafted him in the first round, 20th overall, in 2019. Kirby was one of five players the Mets drafted in 2016 who made it to the majors, name the other four!
Jeff Gardner turns 61 today. He played 13 games and had 37 at-bats for the 1991 Mets.

Murphy finished with 160 votes. McNeil had 99 and Duda had 84

Good morning!
Lucas Duda turns 39 today! He played eight years for the Mets and hit 156 homers from 2010 to 2017, finishing his playing career with the Royals in 2019. On October 4, 2024, Duda was hired to serve as the hitting coach at Lipscomb University.
On this date in 1983, the Mets signed catcher Ed Hearn as a free agent. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the fourth round in 1978 and was released in 1983. He played 49 games with the 1986 Mets and in March 1987, the Mets traded him with Rick Anderson and Mauro Gozzo to the Kansas City Royals for David Cone and Chris Jelic. Hearn later became a motivation speaker having survived many health issues.

Jack Flaherty is returning to Detroit, as ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports that the right-hander has signed a two-year, $35MM deal with the Tigers. The short-term contract contains an opt-out clause after the first season. Flaherty is represented by CAA Sports.
For younger fans like me born afterwards I feel like it can be hard to grasp how much Tom Seaver meant to the franchise and just how asinine the Midnight Massacre was. Would the Luka/AD trade be a reasonable, though loose, comparison ?
Anyone know if pitchers & catchers workouts are open to the public? I’m going to be in the St. Lucie area next week and want to swing by the facility if they allow fans in.

Good morning!
On this date in 2008, the Twins traded Johan Santana to the New York Mets for Carlos Gómez, Deolis Guerra, Philip Humber and Kevin Mulvey. The trade was dependent on Santana waiving his no-trade clause and an extension with the Mets. In early December 2007, the Yankees had offered a package built around Phil Hughes and Melky Cabrera for Santana. On February 2, 2008, Santana was traded from the Twins to the New York Mets for Carlos Gómez, Philip Humber, Deolis Guerra, and Kevin Mulvey. The Mets and Santana agreed to a six-year, $137.5 million contract. Santana would pitch in 109 games and 717.0 innings for the Mets, with a 46-34 record, a 2009 all-star and of course, the first no-hitter in Mets franchise history on June 1, 2012.
Jason Vargas turns 42 today! The lefty starter was drafted by the Marlins in the 2004 draft, traded by the Marlins to the Mets in 2006 and debuted with the Mets in 2007. In 2008, he was in a big three team trade, sent to Seattle with Sean Green, JJ Putz and Jeremy Reed coming to the Mets. Vargas pitched for the Mariners, Angels and Royals, especially on the 2015 Royals team. He came back to the Mets in 2018. During an altercation in the clubhouse at Wrigley Field after a 5-3 loss to the Cubs in June 2018. Mickey Callaway went with Seth Lugo instead of Edwin Diaz, and then Lugo allowed a three-run homer to Javier Baez back when Baez could hit.
After the news conference, Callaway walked past [Newsday reporter] Healey and other reporters in the clubhouse. Healey told Callaway he would "see you tomorrow," and Callaway responded by calling Healey a "motherfucker." Callaway walked away and then returned, cursing at Healey again and telling him to leave the clubhouse.
Vargas shouted "I'll knock you the fuck out, bro" to Healey. The Mets fined Vargas $10,000 for his outburst.
In July 2019, he was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies for Austin Bossart, a minor league catcher. He never pitched in the majors after 2019.
Adrian Houser turns 32 today, he had a 5.84 ERA with the 2024 Mets in 23 games.

437 votes for Nido. Next closest was Guillorme at 237. Tejada also eclipsed the 200 mark
anyone else fine with the current rotation? i mean people forget senga is a legit ace who had a sub-3 era in his only full season. manaea is great, peterson had a sub 3 era. i’m really high on holmes. this team has never struggled with pitching. and this bullpen really impresses me. cease would be great and i think would put us as a top 5 pitching team in the league.
Since the day Nike started making these I’ve had these in my head. I personally think they’re gorgeous… let me know what you guys think
How can Stearns and Uncle Steve pass on this career??
*40 year MLB the Show franchise, not OC.
I may be a big dork but this makes me smile every year
