The sub for Neptune's favorite salty salad. This sub should become a source for everything seagrass. Citizen science, restoration projects, new findings and papers, news - if its about the oceans greatest plant, it belongs here. If you organise/take part in any project that needs volunteers, feel free to post and promote your project.

Emerald Sanctuary Short Film

I recently got the chance to do a short film about the importance of seagrass to our environment and our culture, and the impact of its loss. It features scientists, fishermen, and a ton of wildlife. Feel free to give it a watch if you have a minute. And Happy World Seagrass Day!

We visited charity Project Seagrass at their nursery in Wales to find out what they are doing to protect seagrass around the world. Anyone else know of any projects like this?

Thesis Questionaire on a Seagrass Mapping Device

Hello everyone! I am a final-year Product Design student. As part of my final thesis, I am designing an autonomous boat that will map the coverage of seagrass meadows to aid scientists and citizen scientists in the monitoring process. From talking with experts (marine ecologists and citizen scientists), a significant problem they face is not knowing the exact location of seagrass meadows, making continuous monitoring very difficult. The current concept is an autonomous boat that will take geo-referenced images of the seafloor to inform the user where the seagrass is. Please look at the image in the link below (within the link) of the present concept attached.

Dugong Conservation is helping revive seasgrass in India

Recently, India listed her first dunong sanctuary off the coast of Andaman and Nicobar Island. This was after much research on their habitat and disturbution. Much work is being to restore the seagrass beds to help conserve the dugong in India.

It is definately interesting to see how the conservation of one keystone species can lead to ripple effects in terms of habitat restoration

Grow Lights for growing Seagrass (specifically Eelgrass)

Hi Seagrass enthusiasts,

I am a high school researcher looking to grow Eelgrass for an experiment, testing seagrass wasting disease against salinity while it is infecting eelgrass. Would any of you happen to have grown seagrasses before and know what type of lights are needed or how powerful the lights need to be to sustain eelgrass for a short amount of time?

Any help is much appreciated,
Thank you
