So for a little over year I transferred over to Apple. AirPods, Apple Watch and an IPhone. I have a basic smart tv (a Roku onn one) that’s just a TV screen. I found my old chrome cast at my parents house but want to get an Apple TV just for the Apple ecosystem. I have the TV on a shelf in my room. Don’t have the Chrome cast set up as I want to get an Apple TV. I would mainly use it for movies, TV and my switch. Should I buy one? Just looking for suggestions. All opinions are welcome!
I'm trying to understand the purchasing behavior of Apple TV users to better price my apps. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated!
What's the highest amount you've spent on an Apple TV app (one-time purchase, excluding streaming services or content)? Prices are in USD.
Do you have to pay extra for everything on apple tv after signing up and paying for the subscription?
If not is there a spot for the shows that are included?
Thank you
it’s gonna to be a long week
when i watch HDR content on netflix or disney, there will always be a 1 second blackout after exiting the video. SDR content on netflix doesnt seem to be affected.
i read somewhere it has got to do with Frame Rate settings? do i have to live with this brief annoyance?
My current video settings are what have been recommended here:
4K SDR 60Hz RGB High Dynamic ON Frame Rate OFF
TV - LG 55" C1
Brand new. Is this normal? Screen looks distorted or something. Gigabytes Ethernet and LG C3 65.
I think I found the solution(s) to several very frustrating issues with the Paramount Plus app and wanted to share in case anyone runs into a similar situation.
I'm using an Apple TV 4K with a NextDNS profile configured. The same profile as most of my other devices, for ad blocking and tracking/privacy protection.
.
Issue 1: The video previews in the app play, but whenever I try to play a movie/show, I just get a spinning circle.
Solution 1: Whitelist things on NextDNS. This is super annoying to me since I'm paying for the service (ad-free) and other providers don't have so much tracking nonsense. Current whitelist (for Paramount):
.
Issue 2: I would launch the app, and it would crash. Sometimes immediately, sometimes after a few seconds, usually before letting me press play on anything. This issue first popped up while I was watching something (very annoying).
Solution 2: Completely remove (all data) and reinstall the app. Then whenever I'm done watching I: pause, back out of the video, completely close the app. This has worked so far.
Hi Kind of a noob question. Are there any rumours/info if Apple are working on improving movies with Atmos anytime soon? The gap between streaming and 4K Blu Ray is still massive. Pictures are fine but the “ immersive “ experience is lacking somewhat.
What I'm curious about is if anyone has actually done proper testing of this. Is the average bitrate lower when using internal tv apps compared to dedicated streaming boxes like an apple tv? Tv chips don't have the greatest processing power, so I'm naively hoping that the atrocious bitrate is partly due to that. If anyone knows for sure, please tell me.
With streaming services becoming the norm—and physical releases dying out—modern film is degrading in picture quality as a result. Everything being released is guaranteed to have nasty macroblocking and eye searing color banding, now without ever having the option of watching it in its intended quality.
I've avoided streaming services like the plague and am very unaware of the industry, so for those who are in the know: is there progress being made in e.g. delivering higher bitrate plans, laws regulating throttling, downloadable 1:1 copies as a service, etc.
Hello, I have issue on netflix with my Apple TV 4k (last gen) and my LG B2 on last FW version, the LG B2 is OLED TV similar to the LG C2 (120hz but less luminosity).
On some new Netflix show and ONLY on some not all new Netflix I have a drop like when my TV is switching from SDR to Dolby vision. You can see it here https://imgur.com/a/TwHlZjH, this happend every 30sec to every 2min. And I need to switch to the LG netflix app where there is no issue on theses specific show.
No issue on all other content or app.
Bonus question: why Dolby vision with netflix Apple TV don't display black at real black on my Oled but on LG app yes. Any idea ?probably the settings on my ATV (also on the link https://imgur.com/a/TwHlZjH )
Thanks
Right now using AppleTV in room and it’s connected directly to projector via HDMI. The speaker we use (Apple Homepod), connects via Bluetooth.
I’m wanting to upgrade the audio to a higher end sound bar + surround sound (for reference - my 2 top picks right now below).
When I do this, will I always be able to just connect the sound bar/surround sound speakers/Subwoofer to the AppleTV via Bluetooth? Or do I need a receiver that has some more ports.
Audio options:
I guess it's pretty obvious - I plan to buy an Apple TV 4K soon to use with my monitor, which I primarily use for work and gaming. Unfortunately, the monitor doesn’t have built-in speakers, and I’m not the biggest fan of consuming media with headphones. However, I have a Topping DX3 Pro+ external DAC that allows Bluetooth connection.
My question is about latency: would it be noticeable with this setup? My other option is to pair my Edifier speakers directly with the Apple TV. Has anyone tried a similar setup and could share their experience?
I have one of my Photos album as a screensaver on my Apple TV. Before the recent update (which really sucks with no control over the duration of each photo displayed), switching users had no affect on it and everything was fine. After the update, everytime the user is switched, I have to resync the Photos account. Even if I go back to the original user account, I still have to relink. What is going on here? This is incredibly annoying. I don't want to see this Aerial crap. Help...
I've bought and been using since yesterday. Loving ot so far. Now, yesterday when I pressed the power button, my TV went off followed by the ATV box. Today, without me changing anything, pressing power brings up, on screen a wee box in top right of screen with power, wifi, sound options. Any ideas how to go back to the first way?
Anyone know if this is possible yet? If not, what would your advice be in what I should invest in? Budget is whatever it takes.
I have 3-4 people in my house wanting to watch TV late at night. Cannot wake up the other roommates. Is it possible to connect more than 2 headphones to the appleTV, if not, what's a good system to set up for this? Everyone has airpods but also wired headphones.
I own both Apple TV 4K and a 2019 Shield Pro and as many people know the Spotify app on these different OS are entirely different.
Not only is the interface on both completely different, but the Spotify app on Apple TV is lacking many features such as Dark Mode, Lyrics, Queue, Spotify Connect (doesn’t pick up if music is playing on another device)
Navigating to the now playing screen on the Apple TV app is annoying, and the player lacks all of the features mentioned above, and is very basic.
I can’t wrap my head around it. Why those this annoying prick Daniel Ek and the other decision makers at Spotify think it’s a good idea to offer a worse app for Apple TV users? Why not just upgrade their Apple TV app aswell, so it looks and functions the exact same as the Android TV counterpart…
People are really fed up with it, and sharing their frustration with the Apple TV app: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/Apple-TV-Spotify-app-in-desperate-need-of-an-update/idi-p/6087869
Hallo Community,
I have a first Generation Apple tv 4k with a fast blinking light and no image on the monitor. Did all the tips on Apple support but no change. I Should now send the Apple tv to a repair Center. The estimated repair costs are higher as a new unit so that is not a option. Does anybody has a tip how to repair this unit or is it really a lost case?
Best regards, Hans
I am experiencing stuttering when playing high quality 4k videos from a particular website. Is there anyway to work around this?
Hoping I can find a solution to this, curious if folks are running into the same issue.
For AppleTV 4k audio I use the Airplay output to my hifi system (Holo Red Streamer with Gentooplayer software which actually runs Airplay 1 for better quality at the expense of a slight delay in audio loading and syncing). Then I digitally control volume on the AppleTV. This setup has been fabulous and I have not missed using HDMI eARC at all. Until recently at least.
I am having an issue that when I first turn on the Apple TV, or switch apps/streams, etc the AppleTV automatically turns down the volume. Not sure why this started but it is a huge pain as it turns it down low enough that I am hardly getting any output (family sometimes thinks the airplay connection is broken), and I have to turn it back up constantly. The analog volume I keep my Hifi system at means usually using the AppleTV a few clicks from the top of the volume slider, and it lowers it to like 20-30% volume everytime I change what content I am streaming. It is maddening.
I am new to the Apple ecosystem, AppleTV came first and recently switched to iPhone after like the AppleTV so much. I cannot for the life of me figure out what is causing this to happen though. Anyone have any fix suggestions?
I get this issue when trying to stream sport’s from non paid/subscription websites. There is no option to change resolution. I’ve checked all the threads and self help sites but nothing has worked.
I’m trying to stream from an iPhone 12 Pro Max.
It worked for the first few days after I got it but has recently stopped working and showing the red circle above.
Anybody know how to fix this?
Newest gen AppleTV 4K connected to an LG G2 through via the e-ARC hdmi port.
Gen 2 HomePods set as a pair. I also have a PS5 hooked up and there are no audio issues with sound from the HomePods.
When watching movies (Max, Hulu, Netflix etc.) only parts of the sound will play. Background music gets cut out and you’ll just hear speaking parts, or sometimes the background music will cut in and out briefly, so it seems like it’s happening with specific audio channels.
When I turn the audio output back to “TV speakers” the crappy speakers on my G2 don’t have the issue.
Thoughts?
Loving this update
Just noticing this or is it because all the newer movies did bad at box office?
Are the below listed audio features between Apple TV 4K (2nd gen) and Sony Bravia 7 redundant or is there a best configuration? My preference is to have balanced audio levels so that dialogue is easily heard and the volume is not drastically different between content and inputs. At the same time I don’t want to go overboard and miss background scores and sound effects. Not sure if it’s best to enable the options on Apple TV or Sony or both.
Apple TV
Reduce Loud Sounds
Enhance Dialogue
Sony
Advance Auto Volume
Dynamic Range Compressed/Standard
Voice Zoom 3
Thank you!
First, am I going to have a lot of roadblocks if I don't have an Apple phone?
Which box would you suggest? I've heard the 3rd and 4th Gen are nearly the same.
I’m fed up with glitchy Android boxes, and I really want to be able to properly play my media on Plex. That being said, nvidia shield is overkill and I don’t care about lossless audio. I rather stay in the ecosystem since I already own apple devices.
Thing is, there no news that will be a new ATV even though the device is usually replaced every two years.
Would you buy one today?
I have an Apple TV connected to an LG 65 inch 4K TV set. My media closet is about 40 feet away from the TV set. There is a HDMI cord and a Baylun that is connecting the Apple TV to the TV set. Here’s my dilemma… The picture quality That comes out of the Apple TV is horrible. The colors are way off. It’s very dark or it’s very light but it’s horrible. When I do the picture test for the TV set I get a beautiful 4K picture so I don’t think it’s the TV. Could the distance between the Apple TV and the LG TV set be the issue with the picture quality? Do I upgrade the Baylun to a 4K Baylun. Do I hang the 4K appleTV behind my tv and forget the Baylun alltogether? Let me know your thoughts.
I've got an issue with setting up my Universal Remote Control in LG with Apple TV.
At some point, after switching the TV to the HDMI source connected to the Apple TV, a message appears stating that additional settings have been detected for Apple, which will enhance the speed of the LG remote. I select the Accept button, and this takes me to a screen where I need to enter a PIN. The PIN appears in a small window on the right; I enter it. A spinning wheel icon starts, and after a moment, it says that the PIN is incorrect, even though I entered the same one displayed on the screen. I repeated this several times, and each time I get the same error about the wrong PIN. What am I doing wrong? The TV is an LG OLED G4 and Apple TV 4K (128GB) running TvOS 18.
