Rules

  • No profanity: We like to try and keep this subreddit clean. Please refrain from the use of profanity.
  • No torrent links or P2P of copyrighted material: Please refrain from advocating piracy in this subreddit. For legal reasons, we want to avoid such links.
  • Flag your posts: You are required to flag your post. If you do not, it is grounds for removal, or it will be left up to the moderators to decide how your post is flagged. Please flag your post.
  • Questions Must Have Adequate Information: You must provide the thread with information about your build, to know more on what you're required to share, check this post.
  • Search Before Posting: If your question has already been posted before (even if not by you), please make sure to read the other post before posting. In the event it doesn't answer your question/problem, please link prior post you read and then ask about what you don't understand. Low effort posts will be removed.
  • No distro/beast tools: We do not not support the use of tools such as UniBeast and Multibeast as well as distros such as iAtkos, Niresh, Olarila and such. The reason for this is that these tools do more damage than good as they neither teach you what you're doing and can also damage macOS itself with unneeded framework changes.

The Dortania guide provides ways to install macOS without a Mac device with macOS sourced from Apple directly.

  • No self-promotion: Please keep all paid services and advertisements off the subreddit. This community does not wish to be affiliated with such sources so all paid work and such should be kept private

  • No Mac or VM posts: Regardless of what methods were used for installing, we are a subreddit focused on PC hardware running macOS. Please keep macOS specific, virtual machines and Mac hardware posts to their respective subreddits.

  • Don't distribute EFIs: Do not share your EFI folders, instead point users to the subreddit's vanilla guides. If you would like to share your work, document the specific items required to build your Hackintosh that were not covered in the guide instead. Pre-baked EFI posts will be removed as they are not guaranteed to work and they spread a low-effort sentiment in the Hackintosh community.

  • Note: You can share your EFI in order to ask for help, but you cannot send EFIs to the requester as a way of helping.

  • No Youtube Videos: While we understand some users may be more visual learners, please understand that most(if not all) youtube guides either:

    • Steal the work of others and hide behind paywalls
    • Become easily outdated
    • Largely incorrect and spreading false info

So we highly discourage uses of these videos, instead much preferring users follow the written guides in our FAQ and Sidebar. The main offenders of these types of videos are from TechNolli, Morgonaut, and TechTunerLife.

  • Alpha/Beta Software releases are unsupported: Because alpha/beta software is full of bugs, supporting beta software makes it difficult to troubleshoot issues. Please avoid posting about beta software help until it has reached GM.

  • Success posts of these softwares are welcomed with proper documentation and [IT BOOTS! (WIP)] flair. Help and question posts will be removed.

    What is a Hackintosh?

A Hackintosh is a non-Apple computer that runs macOS.

    • AMD USERS READ THIS: While it may be more work, the AMD hackintosh scene has gotten quite a bit easier. Do note we're primarily an intel subreddit but feel free to ask questions relating to AMD based systems. (AMD Laptops and AMD integrated GPUs are unsupported)
    • You can find the AMD OS X discord here
    • OpenCore Install Guide

    • macOS INSTALLERS NOTE: This sub is dedicated to legally obtained copies of macOS. Please do not ask, or post, about things like iAtkos, Niresh, or any other modified macOS installer that may have malicious code in it!

    • Pre-Built EFI NOTE: We provide minimal to no support for Pre-Built EFIs from GitHub, Hackintosher and such due to generally being heavily outdated, poorly made and users not knowing what their hackintoshes are doing. You may still ask for help but please be prepared to remake your EFI from scratch following the OpenCore Vanilla Guide

    • UniBeast and Multibeast NOTE: Unfortunately we do not support the use of beast tools due to being closed sourced, can modify MacOS files and users generally not know what these tools are doing(more info here). You will be requested to restart your installation following the OpenCore Vanilla guide to properly learn hackintoshing or face public humiliation and be stuck with your broken Hackintosh

Check out the brand-new FAQ! Don't ask before you read it fully, twice.

Make sure you post your Hackintosh's specifications when you ask questions. (Posting guidelines in the FAQ or further down the sidebar)

Regarding info/guides posted to this subreddit, we reserve all right to remove posts we feel either break the rules, provide poor info or redirects to other poorly made guides. Please understand that we want to keep the subreddit clean and a place where people don't have to worry about getting false info

Is this laptop good enough for Sonoma?

Before I ask anything, I apologize. I hope I'm not at the wrong place to ask questions. Also, English is my fifth language so please be patient with me. If this post is considered inappropriate for this place, there is no need to ban me, I'll delete the post. Thank you in advance.

I want to install Sonoma on this device ( setup in the picture ) since it only costs 200€.

1.a. Will this setup be good enough for everything to be smooth? ( She's gonna use it for storage purposes, browsing the web, office, et cetera ).

1.b. Also, iServices are imperative to be functional. I'm buying my sister an IPhone with AirPods Pro 2nd. It was a fortune already and I can't afford a MacBook. I need those iMessages, calls, AirDrop, AirPods connection to work, ergo, all of the hustle.

    1. If this setup is not " it ", can some of you that understand this thing better help me out by finding the right kind of a laptop?

It just needs to be affordable, smooth for basic functions, and iService ready.

    1. Do I need separate WiFi/BT antenna/dongle to buy in order for iServices to work?

Also, I'll try to test this thing on my PC in case the laptops are expensive. Here are the specs:

    R5 5600X ( Vermeer ) 6750XT ( Navy Flounder ) 32GB DDR4 MoBo: A520M-K 1TB NVME

    1. I couldn't find the EFI for non-Intel processors.

    2. I don't have built in a Wi-Fi/BT card into this excuse of a motherboard so it wouldn't be able to provide her those iServices.

    3. In case I manage to install this thing with the help for the things above, are there USB dongles/cards or whatever that I could plug in ( in USB ports, not mobo ) and enable those services or does it needs to be plugged into the motherboard?

    4. ( For PC only: How do I dual boot all of the above with Win11 ).

Guys, thank you so much in advance and sorry to overwhelm you with so many information. Also, I beg of you to stick to the topic. No, she doesn't need Linux installed. I'll appreciate highly if I get answers for the things I only asked or. Blessed be.

    Lenovo m710q Success?

I haven't tried to hackintosh since Mavericks. I was given 2 m710q mini PCs and someone mentioned they can run MacOS pretty well.

They have an i7-7700T with 32 gigs of ram and both a NVMe and a SATA SSD.

Has anyone had success with these specs?

How hard is it to read the sidebar and guide? Possible fix.

I've built them since 2010 and know. This question is for those who have built our share, and those of us going back to the days of TonyMacX86.

Is the sidebar difficult to see or read? The guide itself is a lot of info and takes some time to digest, but we've done. Does the guide need dumbed down into a flowchart or series of web pages where the user answers yes/no questions? If people who post "Can I Hackintosh this?" don't bother reading the sidebar, isn't that an obvious indicator that they won't be able to follow the guide? (I understand the need for wanting an answer to see if it's possible before investing time to perform the job, but the majority of the guide shows users how to build it, not what works and what doesn't).

How easy or difficult would it be to build a web-based JavaScript flowchart where the user enters their specs (they are responsible for looking that up), and each step either shows the maximum MacOS or says "You cannot Hackintosh this system". They enter their graphics card or graphics on a chip, and it says the same. If the user's chip doesn't have built-in graphics, the response says, "Must use Nvidia card GTX 650 or AMD graphics card."

How do I patch my DSDT?

So, I got macos ventura installed on my acer aspire 5 like 2 days ago. Ive been ironing out the small kinks so far. But, theres one thing that ive been stuck on, editing the dsdt. I have been looking to fix my brightness keys (the slider works but the keys dont) so i came across this post (https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/305030-guide-how-to-fix-brightness-hotkeys-in-dsdt-ssdt-hotpatch/) and ive been stuck at step 4. I applied the patches and all, but i have no way to save/upload the modified dsdt onto my system. Any help is appreciated.

Help! Sonoma & Ventura no hdd shows at install, Monterrey and bigsur at install gui -no usb-

    Hi!

CPU comet lake Motherboard: asus proart z490 Mem: 32gb ram Nmve m2 1 gb Ssd Samsung 1 gb Video: rx580

Context: I have a 3 year old Big Sur installation. It’s not perfect but all the system work nicely except WiFi & Bluetooth ( I never use them)

Problem: trying to update ( ideally to Sonoma) but I had no luck.

Sonoma and Ventura: Take a lot to start the installation gui ( around 15 to 20 min) and once start there is no hard drives none! ( no sata, no m2, no even see usb drives)

Monterrey: it start in less than 30 second ( the installation gui) but no usb power, if I connect a new mouse for example it blink like 3 to 5 times and then seem like it’s off. So no usb.

I map my own usb map with no luck, I tried usbinject all kext plus added to the config.plist and no luck.

Regarding the hdd no appearing in Sonoma and Ventura . I rebuild afew times the efi folder following dortania guide. And no luck, I tried creatin my own sstd and modify my configplist and nothing!

In the longtime of the starting of the gui of Sonoma and Ventura I see this issue of timeout of applecpicpu and other warning is failed looked name com.apple.logod : no process found.

I tried install from different usb ports. I started to install from a ssd connecting directly to a sata port. I resized the ssd a different sizes same issue. No change.

I’m running ing out of ideas. Can you push me in other direction?

What can I be missing? I have 4 days on this!🥵

All boot options (SSDs) disappearing from BIOS periodically

I have a weird problem. Every 5-10 cold starts and/or reboots the machine goes directly to BIOS because there are no boot drives available. Neither of my SSDs is visible, and so naturally the boot order menu is empty.

I can reboot at that point, and the Windows SSD (which is in the second position) is visible and the system boots directly to it. I can then re-create the OC boot option using bootice, and then everything works normally for a while, until they disappear again.

I'm using the LauncherOption as described in the guide. I originally enabled that so that the boot menu for OC would be recreated in the BIOS after doing an NVRAM clear. Before enabling it I had to recreate the OC boot option in Windows using bootice as desribed above every time I cleared NVRAM.

This is an Asus Z790 ProArt Creator motherboard, and two WD Black SSDs. OC 0.9.9.9 and Sonoma.

Should I try removing LauncherOption? I'm basically done with the testing that was requiring me to clear the NVRAM so often, so it may be less of a hassle to recreate the OC entry manually only if I need to do that again.

Very new at this, I just want to do this:

Basically I want to get into Hackintosh. I'm VERY new, and have only installed Mac OS once in VirtualBox and I know it's not the same, and there's things that I need to know and want to ask to you guys.

    1. My components are GTX 970 (Desktop) Intel i7-4770k, 8 GB of Ram (8192 MB) ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO MOTHERBOARD and an 800 GB (it's 1 TB but I use other systems too, I can delete if I need to, but I prefer not to if I can.) Are those compatible?

    2. I want to make a partition and in that partion make a Hackintosh, is that possible?

    3. I don't want any new Mac Os Sonoma beta nor Alpha, I want a Mac OS that is compatible but not the most new, I'd prefer things as Catalina. Can I do that?

    4. Do I have to install any additional drivers?

    5. Is there a guide in this Reddit?

If you can help me with this question or at least some of them, I would be very happy. Thank you.

Get iServices to work with Airportitlwm.kext in Sonoma (14.4.1)

    Hello everyone :D ,

so yesterday I bought an Intel AX210S PCI-E Card from Ubit. The reason why I bought is because I didn't want to run relaxed security with my fenvi t919. My setup looks like this rn : AX210S with itlwm.kext and Heliport to get wifi and then my Fenvi T919 for Bluetooth, buuuut I can't use Airdrop now so I have to use local send.... and when I switch to the Airportitlwm.kext I get Airdrop but my iServices like iMessage or calling or receiving a call on the Mac won't work.

When using the Airport kext I made sure the Ethernet was flagged as en0 + built-in was also checked.
I changed my ROM from the basic on that comes with the Sample.plist (11 22 33 44 55 66) to my MAC Adress from my Hardware in my Network Preferences but that didn't help and I generated a new SMBIOS and replaced everything so Serial Number, ROM, etc. but that didn't work either.

Has anyone maybe some time to help me or maybe push me in the right direction. I went through the entire Dortania Postfix Guide but that didn't work :/.

Sorry my english isn't the best hopefully you understood what I was writing :)

UPDATE: So ive been tinkering around and ive found out that if you have a spare port on your router or have a wifi repeater with a lan port you can just plug that into your Hackintosh and then in your network preferences set the Wifi to the 1st Place and Ethernet to the 2nd. I also changed my SMBIOS (iMac19,1 and used the MAC address of my Ethernet for my ROM). Now I can use the Wifi 6e speeds of the intel card use Airdrop with Bluetooth with the Fenvi and get iMessages and all the other iServices working through the LAN Port :D

Hope this helps everybody facing the same problem

I couldn't install Hackintosh, no matter what I do, I can't even boot it and couldn't GPU Passthrough OSX-KVM (Linux). After GPU passthrough, my VM won't boot.

What's the best macOS version for VMware?
