CS2 Advanced Video Settings Crash

I play CS2 through Porting Kit and GPTK and have no problems in the normal game apart from some random "driver out of date" lag spikes that only last for about 1 second at a time. However, every time I try changing the advanced video settings, the game freezes and I can't do anything or click any buttons. I can still hear the audio, but every time it gets stuck like that and I have to force quit.

Any way around going into the game and changing video settings, perhaps in launch commands or fixing this bug?

Running an application via Whiskey

Hey all,

I have recently encountered a problem running software with Whiskey. I always get the error

"

Run-time error '339':

Component 'threed32.ood or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid

"

Is there anything that can be done by using winetricks or something else?

Cheers!

Review: Crossover is very cool software with a lot of issues.

I pay for the subscription, and I feel I've already gotten my money's worth out of the product. I've been able to run and enjoyably play Hogwarts Legacy, Deep Rock Galactic Survivor and Skyrim through Crossover. For the most part, the experience of playing these games is really great! I've frequented this forum for several years, and to me this seems like a big step in the right direction for folks who want to game on the mac.

That being said, there are a lot of problems I've experienced with Crossover. Here are some areas where it could use improvement (let me know in the comments if there are both solid AND simple solutions to any of my problems):

  • A lot of times it just doesn't work! - Sometimes, I'll launch crossover and some of the bottles I select just won't open. I have no idea why. I click on Skyrim and it should just open, right? Sometimes, if you wait a long time, it will... But other times it never does, and it seems really random why games won't work and when they will. Also some games I haven't been able to get functional. I tried Crash Bandicoot It's About Time, and couldn't get it to work with the controller. Maybe that's a Steam thing, idn.
  • There can be weird glitches and oddities in the games that DO work - This may not be an issue exclusive to Crossover: I'm not familiar with how these games play on a Windows computer, so this section may not be entirely to blame on Crossover, THAT BEING SAID, they are annoying so I'll bring them up. Games like Hogwarts Legacy will just randomly close sometimes and the frame rates will drop randomly. On Skyrim, so far it's been good, some odd stuttering glitches in the graphics and audio. Deep Rock Galactic Survivor has been fun, but it will randomly disconnect from my ps5 DualSense Controller (CFI-ZCT1W). It also will randomly close or freeze as well.
  • It's confusing software - A lot of things here: Run Commands, D3DMetal, M/ESync, what installing an application into a bottle does, heck, even the term bottles doesn't mean anything to the average gamer, and I don't really understand it myself. I think the way around this is incorporating some introduction to the software when you first download it that makes the tutorial very engaging and informative (while also being able to opt out of it). Sure, I can probably dig through articles or watch a Youtube video to learn, but the point isn't that I can learn if I want to: point is that I don't want to learn. I just want to play video games.

These are issues that make it hard to fully recommend Crossover to people eager to play Windows games on a mac. I'm sure a lot of other great games work wonderfully on Crossover. I've noticed the games on the Install list in Crossover, as well as others mentioned in this forum. But still the point here is that I want to play every Windows game on this software, not just a sampling that are verified. It's for this reason that it's definitely a 7.3 out of 10 for me. I'm hopeful they get it to be a seamless experience in the coming years (or sooner!).

Xbox / Apple Studio Display

(I hope this is allowed as I’m using an Apple product for gaming?)

This question is to all of you who use your Xbox with a USB-C monitor such as the Apple Studio Display.

So I’ve been using the Club-3D HDMI-USBC converter cable for over 6 months and it has been working perfectly. Just recently I plugged everything in and the monitor doesn’t turn on (acting like nothing is connected).

My first thought was the cable has burnt up (which I have heard of happening due to overheating etc), but I can connect my PC laptop to the monitor using the same cable and it works perfectly. Also I can connect my MacBook Pro to my Apple monitor and the monitor works great.

So not sure what the problem here is as it seems as though everything works separately but for some reason they’ve just decided not to work together.

PS: I bought multiple new cables which do the same thing and none of them worked either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Anyone used the Amazon Luna controller for offline gaming on macOS?

Title, basically. I could swear I've seen Amazon say that their Luna controller wasn't compatible with offline play on the Mac, but according to this page it is. I've been thinking about picking one up when they go on sale but obviously don't want to do so if it's not going to work with my MBP. Hoping someone here has tried it.

any good n64 emulators for mac

I am on a m1 macbook air

I have tried using openemu and sixtyforce for playing ocarina of time majoras mask combo and this is how they work for it.

openemu:

  • runs good
  • customisable

sixtyforce

  • laggy
  • no sharp pixelated edges

Ship of Harkanian

  • Runs good
  • looks great
  • very customisable
  • Doesn't support anything other than the base game

If anyone knows a way to run project 64 on mac or any other emulators please let me know.

Does Anyone play COD MW2 (2009) on a mac?

I'm considering buying the greatest COD of all time on my mac, but read a while ago that (for multiplayer) people playing on a mac can only play with other mac users. Is this true?

In the case that it IS true, do any one of you play it on mac? or do you know if any people even play it? because I know that you can't play with bots in mw2, and black ops III (the only other mac supported cod that has bots) is 4 times the price...

Can you play Skyrim on Steam other ways than with Porting Kit? And does it run better? M1 Air

I've just tried installing Skyrim through Porting Kit and finally got it working, but it runs pretty badly on my M1 Macbook Air and 16gb ram. Have to rune everything on low and it still lags. I know Parallels can work for some windows stuff, don't if it'll work with Games though? And are there other options than that?
Anyone has any experience running Skyrim on an M1 Macbook Air?

Got Amazon Prime? Try LUNA gaming

It's not a perfect solution but it's probably the best option for games like Fortnite.

You can also link your Ubisoft account to play any games you own on that service.

I found out about it by accident and so far it seems to work well. I don't have the best internet speeds but I've been enjoying Farcry 5 at a very good framerate with minimal issues.

I guess it's similar to the Nvidia cloud gaming but I just wasn't aware it was part of Amazon prime.

Worth giving it a try!

New on Mac Source Ports: Unreal (1998)

The OldUnreal project has been given the go-ahead to release a Mac version of their Unreal build, which I am now linking to on Mac Source Ports.

https://preview.redd.it/ewr2gabzeisc1.png?width=3592&format=png&auto=webp&s=9924d3084e15365ba5ddba03ce70ce9682b86bcd

These are the guys who did the Mac build of Unreal Tournament too. It runs on 64-bit Intel and Apple Silicon Macs as a Universal 2 app, and it' probably the first time the game has run on Mac since... never mind how long it's been.

It's using a new Metal renderer and there are some graphical glitches but as a preview it's available and playable. You will need the files from Unreal to play it. Epic delisted it from everything but if you bought it beforehand you should be good to go.

What mouse do you use with your mac for gaming?

What mouse do you guys use for gaming on Mac? Having to use a dongle for the USB-A is a pain and adjusting the cursor sensitivty still feels off compared to on windows. Is there something similar to 6/11 settings on windows?

Can M-chip Mac Run Games that Require Intel Processor?

Some games I bought on steam specificlly list Intel Core as the minimum processor required. And weird enough, M-chip Mac can run some of them (I played Behind the Frame, The Darkside Detective, Return of the Obra Dinn on my M1 Macbook pro), and some can't be run (eg. Avairy Attorney).

And I wanna buy Darkwood. Its store page also lists Intel Core as minimum and recommended processor. How can I know if this game (and many others out there) can be played on M-chip Mac?

Sharing wineskin bundles with other Macs

Hello,

So the question is simple, let me explain. I have made a port of some abandonware games(Yu-Gi-Oh Power of Chaos, all three of them) via PortingKit, everything works how it should be. Now I am puzzled if I can just zip Port.app and share with other people, can they just click on it a the game will run even if they don't have PortingKit installed?

I can see that there are links in .app, for example:

https://preview.redd.it/v1i7dihcagsc1.png?width=383&format=png&auto=webp&s=00f154eabac407b5360f1003ae6508bff96615a0

There is a crossover link, I am not sure where does it point to. Does it point to something inside the port or does it point somewhere to PortingKit's files?

Since the game is abandonware I think I can share the link here that I uploaded to public folder on my google drive. Tell me if you are interested. Btw port is made on Intel Mac, It probably doesn't contain Rosetta for apple silicon.
