I visited Duluth during the Thanksgiving week and I saw this. This is a very foreign concept to me as someone who grew up in a tropical country and now currently lives in AZ. I can see myself paddleboarding in warmer weather conditions but if the lake is freezing cold with literal ice floating, do these suits actually keep you warm if say for example I slip off the board or somehow lose my balance and fall off?
I'm looking for a mechanic or shop that isn't crazy expensive. I'm newer to driving so I'm not super knowledgeable with vehicles and I can't afford a ton as a single mom so hoping to find a place thats fair and wont prey on my ignorance lol. I rely on my car for work and to get my kiddos around of course so I can't afford to be without it for long!! I know for a fact my ac compressor and serpent belt need to be replaced and was quoted $1250 from one place.I guess what I'm wondering is, is that a proper price? or what should I be expecting to spend and where is a good mechanic or shop to go to!?
hey guys, I'm planning to attend UMD next fall and was wondering about how diverse/welcoming UMD is. I've been told that Duluth is a pretty conservative town, and I wouldn't know any better since I've never been. so this question is directed to those who attend UMD, please enlighten me with the culture and how life is at UMD.
Hello, I am mildly interested in moving to Duluth from out of state (I work remote) and a house listing just popped up that seemed too good to be true -- single family, built 2005, 3 beds 2 full baths, 1135 sq ft, attached garage, right next to Amity Park which google tells me is a good area, listed for $183k. The house doesn't appear to be in disrepair or anything either, though obviously it could have some issues that aren't immediately apparent in photos. The only catch I noticed is the last paragraph of the listing - "Home has appraised market value of $345,000, but is being sold $162,000 below value to income eligible households. Buyer’s gross annual income cannot exceed $89,500. "
I do appreciate that they are making the housing market more accessible for the middle class, but sadly I'm a little above the income eligibility requirement. I'm curious though as to why would the house be listed and marketed at way below its market value in the first place. I thought maybe it's in foreclosure but I assume the listing would have to mention this and I don't see it mentioned. Maybe the house was fully paid off and the owner died and had no living family members to leave it to so the state took possession? The maximum income limit seems mysterious to me as well, I thought it might be related to some sort of affordable housing qualification but I can't find anything in the MN statute supporting this.
Whatever the case, would it be unrealistic to ever expect another move-in ready property to hit the market in Duluth for half its assessed value, with the buyer being subjected to a maximum income limit which is slightly higher than $89.5k?
Hey, I’m Benny and I’m looking for friends preferably 17+ I like dungeons and dragons and photography. Feel free to hmu to know more about me :) LGBTQ friendly <3 I’m a bisexual cis male who loves anything cute and yeah. Feel free to reach out!

I will be arriving in Duluth later this month and I would prefer it if I didn’t have to bring cannabis from Atlanta since it’s technically not legal here . I’m very happy that my stay in Georgia is done I should have never come to an illegal state but now the question has come up . I will be staying about 2.5 hours from Duluth and I have never been to minessota before , is there anywhere I can pick up weed in Duluth before I reach my final destination in Minnesota ? Also is there anything you guys can tell me about the area in regards to the local culture in how it compares to maybe Boston or New York ? How safe is the city how friendly are the people ? Things to do during winter months ? Thank you in advance
When do city outdoor ice rinks open for the season? Any websites with schedules, conditions, etc?
I mostly am in Superior and my car isn't that great at hills. I tried Stonehouse, they cost over a tenth of my monthly income. So... I'm looking for budget karate lessons that isn't up too steep a hill. A side note: I've made it up to hermantown before, but my car was breathing funny for days afterwards.
I have a few questions about working here, as I am looking for something part time on top of my full time job. If anyone who works or previously worked there, please let me know? TIA!
There’s a vacant building on Haines over by Costco and today there was some construction-y workers. Anyone know anything?

I am looking in to move asap for a studio or 1 bedroom ideally no more than $850 and I have been calling around everywhere and no one will answer my calls. I an open to superior, proctor, and Cloquet and still no one is answering and I’ve been at this for weeks. If someone has any information I’d greatly appreciate it thank you. I don’t have pets and have no bad rental history and good credit.
Hey Duluth! I was just wondering if the XC ski trails are good enough to ski on yet?
Has anyone ever looked into a creative reuse store in Duluth? Would there be a need or market for something like that? I remember there was one in Superior a while ago but it’s now closed. I want opinions :)
i'm new to duluth. just moved away from another state to start fresh in my early 20s. i love to try new things and meet new people, but where do i start? i have no friends and very little connections here so im having a hard time getting out. does anyone have any suggestions for local clubs or group activities with friendly people that i could try? thanks :)
Said 4 units on scene and 2 en route. Found out because a quint just zoomed by my house going at least 30 over the speed limit towards that area. (Time was 9:12 pm)
Anyone closer to there know what happened?
The sky by Chester is a beautiful purple. Anyone have an explanation?
I have a woman in my complex who absolutely insists on smoking outside my front door. The entrance to the upstairs units is directly next to my front door, but the remainder of the porch is exclusive to my unit (per management).
The MICCA law doesn’t regulate how far you have to be from an entrance to smoke, but says that local laws may restrict it. So far I haven’t been able to find anything on Google for Duluth that isn’t cannabis-related (this is tobacco), so I’m curious if anyone here knows where to find the Duluth ordinance for smoking? It’s stinking up my apartment’s living room bad.
Every so often savers doesn't have just overpriced trash... if you are a person with limited means who needs household goods I highly recommended heading over this weekend. There are occasional drops from what I surmise could be an adult child clearing out an aging adults home, or from folks who just don't know the value of things or have discretionary income? Unsure. Either way, grateful for these occasions.
There's quite a few items I tore myself away from that are high quality "buy it for life" type items: le creuset enamel pan, solid wood furniture that could easily last another 50+ years, designer looking midcentury end tables, etc. Check it out and have fun!!
Does anyone know where I could properly dispose of disposable vapes in Duluth? I know they can’t go in the trash due to the lithium batteries. Does WLSSD take them? They didn’t specifically say on their site that they take rechargeable ones.
There is a lot of drama in this article. And it is fascinating to see the different folks' posture
The Mayor-
People should be mad/upset about the decision to go with an out-of-town firm (now out of state firm at that) because Reinert continually beat Mayor Larson over the head with this and campaigned on bringing those dollars home. (it is worth noting that Reinert has continuously sent local money away- out-of-town lobbying firm, out-of-town firm for the sports court plans and now the tourism marketing) The issue with this is not the process of selecting the best firm that applied, and sure, the process is fair (one that Reinert hammered when Mayor Larson did the same method and it wasn't good enough for Reinert). Also of note- Reinert is now setting this up as a council decision- he does have the authority to choose a local firm if he so chooses, but is choosing not to. While that may be the right decision, again it goes back to Reinert bemoaning and building his campaign off this issue. That and roads (which he is now doing less than Mayor Larson did and now claims is exactly the amount needed to be repaired). Also worth noting all city contracts have "local" preference points, this isn't unique to Reinert
Aimclear- glad to see he is equally pissed regardless of administration. But the reasoning is so flawed- "because you have x client means you can't serve y client." pretty sure Aimclear is able to serve many folks and entities that compete with each other! Will be interesting to see if Marty self-funds and runs ads against Reinert. I get it hurts to lose out to other firms but it's all a part of the game.
And finally- Councilor Mayo. This kid's job directly benefits from the tourism contract (he is the marketing person at Glenshen Mansion). He will be working with the firm that is selected, and if tourism numbers increase or if Glenshen is part of the marketing campaign, Mayo directly benefits from that (Glenshen also receives a large sum of tourism tax dollars, which is how this contract is funded, and paid for) as most tourism entities in the city tout their numbers to ask for increased tourism tax funding. The lack of integrity from Mayo to comment so heavily, let alone vote on a subject that directly impacts his job and one where he could have undue sway, is incredibly inappropriate but not surprising. He should recuse himself from debating and voting on this topic.
I remember reading somewhere I am not entirely sure where that the city of Duluth was planned/ built for much more people. This was due to projections that Duluth's port would import/ export much more than it does now. Cities on the East Coast, West Coast, and Gulf Coast took much of the Midwest Coast share as many people ended up moving to the sunbelt. As a result more housing, infrastructure, and capacity was built than Duluth needed.
My question is - is this true? I believe I got it from a book, but every time I've searched online to see if this is in fact true, nothing has come back to me. Is Duluth overbuilt or is this some myth?
Ugly is preferred as it's not my dog, but I'd like something that wouldn't be thrown out right away. So something quality, but ugly.
Any suggestions are appreciated because I don't want to drive around Duluth all day shopping. I'm thinking Fleet Farm, ... ?
I was recently gifted a sewing machine and would really love to learn how to sew. Has anyone taken a beginners class in Duluth they can recommend? Thank you!
