Date Night ideas

Hey all! New to Bemidji and we are hoping someone can help us find some fun things to do. We don’t drink just as an FYI. I was looking at the Hatchet House as an option but wanted to see what other places would be good to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated! 💙

Difference between the Rezs

Just curious if each of the three surrounding reservations has a different vibe, culture, economy, resource, etc.

Does one have more farmers and one have more wild rice? Do any have bison herds or outstanding fishing? Any famous people? (Besides Winona LaDuke) Any really rezzed out places that I shouldn't drive at night? Any with cool programs for kids?

Any info is nice to know!

Am I safe to come here? (I’m 🖤⚫️)

Hello, African American here. Is Bemidji a safe place for me to move to? I am a veteran that has gotten a job offer at the VA there, Interview today. MN is a place I am very curious about and like the nature I see online and the lifestyle I read about. But I am unsure about my safety as a black person. Research online says theres less than 2% of blacks that stay there. Do You think I’m good to go? Or do I have something to worry about?

Job Fair kinda...useless?

Ok, provocative title aside.

So, my backstory, right, is I recently moved to Bemidji with my family, and I've been a stay at home parent since 2021. I'm also a trans woman.

I'm doing some paperwork and i notice there's a job fair downtown and figure I can take a look and maybe make a few connections or something. I jam out a resume and print them at the library and head over.

Maybe it's just the jobs I was intereste din that did this, but almost all of them were essentially, "Visit our website and see what's available!"

And, just, idk, man, but this seems like such bad opportunity for job seekers. Like, I'd like to expect, idk, some interviews being done and these businesses there actually looking at the pool of people coming to this.

Is it better than nothing? Sure. But its honestly no different than if you just went to a bunch of business/local website from home. In fact that's what every job i had interest in just told me to do.

So, I guess, just seems like a wasted opportunity. And maybe the logistics of "Come here and be interviewed and maybe hired!" isn't possible but, honestly, not much point in a fair if all the booths tell you to go find a computer and apply online.

What's Bemidji like to live in?

Considering a move to the area. What's it like? What is the college like? Seems to be geared toward humanities and environmental issues. Is that reflective of the community?

I know it's surrounded by 3 reservations. There seems to be conflicting info on whether that lends to more crime. I'm not a white asshole though and will be living in the country. I'm guessing I'll be fine?

What're the politics like? Is there a moderate mix?

What are the people like?

Thanks for any input

Marathon

I’ll be visiting next month for The Blue Ox Marathon. Any tips or suggestions to make it a good experience? Where to stay? How to get there? Park? Where can I get a good plate of spaghetti to carb up the night before? What’s the best pizza delivery for after the run? What else should I do while I’m in town? I’ve never been! Thanks in advance.

Wildfire smoke sparks air quality alert for parts of northern Minnesota, including Bemidji

Officials with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency say smoke from Canadian wildfires is drifting into the northern part of the state Monday making the air unhealthy for everyone.

The agency has issued an air quality alert for north-central and northwest Minnesota. That includes Brainerd, St. Cloud, Bemidji, International Falls, Roseau and the tribal nations of Mille Lacs, Leech Lake and Red Lake.

Bears vs Dumpster

Hello,

My little neighborhood is struggling with a bear vs our community dumpster.

We reached out to the DNR for potential relocation but were told that the bear would come back. lol

I would appreciate advice for bear proofing our dumpster that will not cause harm to the bear.

Thanks!

Bear Tax.

Experience with Bemidji driving test?

Hi, I'm looking to take my road test in Bemidji and am wondering others experiences with the test. Google reviews say the examiners are mean and use confusing directions but some older pre-2020 posts on Reddit say the test was quite easy and no issue at all. Please let me know if it went well because the process of getting an appointment through the MNDPS site is agony.

MN PTC in Saginaw, MN

Please feel free to delete if not appropriate- but I am an instructor who teaches firearm safety and would like to introduce myself as a Veteran small business owner. I don't have a website aside from my USCCA site that does my scheduling/registrations of students- but I do have an active Facebook following. www.facebook.com/IndividualTacticalFirearms

The reason I'm posting on Reddit is that I don't have a budget for commercials/billboards/etc. and I have spent literally half my life teaching and working with firearms. I am passionate about safety and quality education. I want to teach people who want to be taught. I'm not just trying to 'check the box'.

If you're still reading this, I thank you. If you are interested in obtaining or renewing your permit, please feel free to email me at IndividualTacticalFirearms@gmail.com and I'd be happy to work with you! I am intentionally not putting my registration link in here as to not be seen as a spammer.

Humbly,

Nic

Looking for option to do Bemidji - Minneapolis

Hello Bemidji,

I have been in your city since a few day for the unicycle competition, I'm looking at option to leave Bemidji on the 22 late evening or early 23 July, as I have my flight leaving at 4:35pm from Minneapolis International Airport.

I looked for bus shuttle but they arrive too late on the 23 or leave too early on the 22 (as I have my final competition finishing at 10:20pm that day)

Any suggestions or tips would be deeply appreciated.

Cheers,

Gab

Single-wheel enthusiasts from around the globe descend on Bemidji for Unicon 21

It was likely a first for the Sanford Arena. On the second night of Unicon 21 the Bemidji venue hosted unicycle sumo. And by all accounts, the event was a slobberknocker.

Competitors balanced on unicycles battled around a large chalk circle drawn on the arena floor.

Like traditional sumo wrestling there are two ways to win: either force your opponent out of bounds or knock your opponent off balance so they topple over and touch the ground.

Zach Strassberg-Phillips emerges as the unicycle sumo champion.

His approach: flatten the competition.

“Take them out while you can. While they’re off guard. I even won one battle with just like, my interpretation of a haka,” he said, referring to the war dance performed by the Māori people of New Zealand. “And then they just like backpedaled out. No contact required."
