Hi! I am planning on moving to Minnetonka in a month or two. I have heard the water is harsh on the skin, even softened. There is a water softener in the home I am considering. I have pretty sensitive skin and scalp and have been losing hair at my current apartment in Maple Grove, even though the water is softened. The TDS level is high and there are still a ton of deposits left behind by the water. Minnetonka has relatively high TDS as well, but not as high as Maple Grove. I feel there is nowhere in MN with good water (except Duluth and maybe a few others). I lived in Bloomington for a short time and the city softens the water to 5 gpg and that amount of hardness was too much for me and I lost a ton of hair there too. Any insight on the water quality in Minnetonka would be appreciated!! Thanks
Off-year local elections like this year's always attract significantly fewer voters than presidential elections, but the offices to be filled and issues to be decided are still very important. This is the time for you to use your power to influence the community you live in!
Here are links to locate your polling site, verify your registration status, and, if necessary, register to vote. If you are unable to cast your ballot on Tuesday, early in-person voting is available at Minnetonka City Hall between 8 and 4:30 today and on Monday 11/6.
You can view a sample ballot here. In the City of Minnetonka, voters will choose city council representatives in Wards 1, 2, 3, and 4. The ballot measure to amend the city charter to repeal ranked choice voting is also up for consideration. In the Minnetonka School District, four school board members will be elected and voters are asked to renew a Tech Levy.
My husband and I are from the northeast (NY/Canada) and have been living in the Los Angeles area for the past 15 years. We have a toddler and another on the way. With no true roots in CA, and my husband now remote (my job isn’t but there’s others in my industry throughout the US), I’ve been daydreaming about moving somewhere more livable. Winter doesn’t scare us as it’s all we knew for 20+ years.
Things that are important to us:
What areas would you suggest? I love the architecture in Minneapolis proper but it doesn’t look like the public schools there are good (or are there pockets of good schools by neighborhood? That’s the case with LA public schools). In doing some internet searching, Plymouth and Minnetonka came up pretty high, and we knew someone in college from Edina. Would these towns check our boxes? Any more urban than others? Anywhere else we should consider?
Traffic on hwy 7 is increasing and it is also getting louder. Any idea on where/ how to request for noise barrier to be built? Should it be directed to the city? Or county?
I see the water tower at Ridgedale is getting new paint. Does anyone know if that moss-y green will be it's new color? I quite like it, it seems like it fits in nicely with the marshy theme the city has.
I just moved here a year ago and found Minnetonka's water to be extremely hard. I did some research and Minnetonka get water from same source as other cities like Eden Prairie. EP's water is excellent. Any reason why we don't treat the water so we don't need water softener?
Curious about any advice on moving to MN from MA. MA is way too expensive to live comfortable for a family of four.
I work remote but my husband bartends so would be looking for a bartending job. Is bartending a good option in this area ?
Southways, the historic Pillsbury mansion, stood on the shores of lake Minnetonka for a century, but it was just demolished in 2018. As I've driven by, I've noticed that an insanely huge new mansion has taken its place on the property.
Does anybody know what the backstory is with this behemoth of a new home? Do we know if anybody notable owns it? There are some big homes on lake Minnetonka but that new place is gargantuan, so I'd imagine whoever owns it isn't some average Joe millionaire.
I’m new to the Minnetonka/Wayzata area and looking for recommendations:
I’m near 494 and 394, but I’m willing to drive for something that fits the vibe.
Does anyone know what happened yesterday around 3pm at the beach? We saw a fire truck, sherrif boat, ambulance and multiple police cars. Havent seen anything from local news yet.
Me and my GF will be moving to a suburb of Minneapolis in late June/early July for a year or so. She is a pharmacist and coming to do a residency there and we are planning to live probably in the Chaska/Minnetonka/Eden Prarie/Shakopee somewhere in there area as that is the best place since she will be splitting her time between two hospitals. We are both kind of small town people from the south and this is gonna be a huge change for both of us. Anyone have any general advice? I know the winter will probably be brutal on a level we've never experienced. Anything is appreciated.
We’re moving to the Orono area and discovered that Xfinity does not service this area. Any recommendations?
Looking for a builder for a small single car detached garage. Affordability is prime but want something with a bit of character. Thanks in advance
Just looking to try out some new electronics before a trip up north. any of the lakes in the area are fine. Promise I won't steal your "honey hole". :)
Not sure if I can post this here.. Neighbors app isn’t what I thought it would be. What do Minnetonkians use to connect, share, and discuss crime ? Anything?
Hello everyone!
I’m a genealogist & I am trained in discovering local Minnesota family lineages and stories through historical records.
This is the interest form I put together for anyone interested in learning more about their Minnesota family history. I create family trees, historical road trip itineraries, ancestral maps, etc! It’s a super cool way to connect with your own history and great knowledge pass down to future generations.
Here are some things you can discover from my research:

Ironic the a Reader shouldn't be allowed in a school and a Christian needs to be kept away from kids. And since he was endorsed with them, Salyards is out, too.
I'm having trouble finding anyplace to compare candidates views and qualifications side by side. It shouldn't be that difficult in the information age, but i've found BallotReady and even the League of Women's Voters to be unhelpful.
Thanks for any help!
I've been hunting for a shiney psyduck I'll offer a mew or a zarude or any of my legendary please get back to me. 2182 1290 0354
