Does anyone have any suggestions on places with good deals on Halloween. I know chipotle used to have half off burritos on Halloween but the last few years they changed it and now the deal is pretty underwhelming.
Hi fam- are there any places people are gathering for election results? I already cannot handle this waiting by myself.
Specifically… hit me up if you’re going to vote for our first woman president. Peace and blessings!
Here is the link for it on Facebook - MCFC 3 | Facebook
Tickets go on sale late January with Nitro Tickets (No Ticketmaster Bullshit :) )
Where do you find information on the judicial candidates? The LWVMN does not invite judicial candidates to participate. I’ve looked at the candidates websites but with the current political landscape of human rights being taken away by the judicial branch of our country, I feel that I need more.
There's a sauna at the YMCA, and there's occasionally (and currently) a sauna at Prairie Island Campground. Where else are the saunas in town? Has there ever been a portable or pop-up sauna at Lake Park Lodge or at the Latch Island beach? Seems like it could be an opportunity and a cool amenity.
Hi all! Please let me know if this belongs somewhere else. My wife and I moved here from Arizona in May so we are coming up on our first winter here, and we have 3 dogs (13yo Shih-Tzu mix, 4 yo Terrier mix, and 5mo Golden Retriever.) Are there any measures we can take to help our house not smell like wet dogs all winter? We didn’t get a lot of wet weather in Arizona aside from the quick monsoons, and it was easy to keep the dogs inside.
I know we need to get a boot mat, and we have runners in the back room. Do you recommend a big rug, towels by the door, a certain air freshener? I’m open to all suggestions! (Aside from moving, getting rid of the dogs, etc.) Thanks in advance!
I'm sure some of y'all have read the recent (alarmist?) letter sent out from Mark Bransford that says,
[Nick] Miller and [Michael] Wojcik share similar philosophies, including their vision of transforming Rochester into Minneapolis. They advocate transferring the city's voting authority on land use matters to the legislature in St. Paul. [...] Tripp Welch, on the other hand, will oppose special interest groups who are aiming to remodel our city after Minneapolis.
It seems to have become a refrain for some local figures during this election cycle. The warning, issued from what appears to be Rochester's own Greek chorus, now feels almost as familiar as it is hazy:
Here's the handful of other instances that come to mind most immediately:
But it hasn't been clear (to me, anwyay) what that all means, in terms of specific policies and their concrete ramifications. I guess Bransford does at least reference a supposed threat to the "city's voting authority on land use matters," but he doesn't elaborate on the implications. And, Powers did caution that all these supposed Minneapolitan machinations would be "unfavorable to business interests"—but why? What EXACTLY is at stake? (And yes, I understand that FiMN is based in St. Paul, but I don't understand how someone could take that fact and then extrapolate it to mean substantial and specific policy changes that would "remodel our city after Minneapolis.")
Or, is the "Twin Cities" just a shadowy symbol for a Big Bad Liberal Mecca? Is it a dog whistle aimed at those who believe Minneapolis is a tragically fallen city that "burned down" under progressive leadership?
WHAT DOES IT MEEAAANNN
Kind of random, but I live near the Rochester area so I figured I'd ask. I'm looking to make a little more space and replace it with a second bird for my Green Cheek Conure to have a buddy. I've asked a few friend groups and no on is interested, facebook marketplace doesn't allow animal sales, and I don't want to just give away a snake and it's full setup that I have 700 dollars invested in. It is just a standard morph ball python and is very docile and will eat frozen/thawed. If anyone has advice please reply.
I’m getting ready to book my road test soon. I found the 12AM method helpful as I’m now able to see some options for test dates. The issue is, I don’t know where to take my test. My sister took hers in Rochester and failed twice, many others told me you’re likely to fail. Are there any other testing sites or places I can take it where it’s pretty simple and straightforward? I’m not opposed to traveling an hr or two my schedule is fairly flexible. Any advice is appreciated!!!!
I haven't been following the race super closely, but from what I've seen of these candidates I like both of them pretty well! Seems like there may be some minor differences, but overall I get the feeling that both candidates have their hearts in the right place and are not in this for personal gain.
I will say that Doering is more expressive and seems more ready to passionately verbalize his positions, while Schleusner is more reserved. But that doesn't mean Schleusner isn't as cut out for the job; in fact his resume speaks quite well to relevant experience. When I compare their websites, it's hard to discern major differences in terms of their key viewpoints.
I guess one other thing that stuck out to me is that, when asked whether they supported additional funding for elevating the public library, Doering said an unequivocal "yes," while Schleusner said he supports the library but would like to first explore other creative strategies for sustaining/expanding it. But I don't know quite what to infer from that. Notably, I believe that Kelly Rae Kirkpatrick (Ward 4) said something a little similar to Schleusner, i.e. that she suspects the library may already be adequately fantastic (she praised it) and that we need to balance our wants vs. our needs.
As you can probably tell, my grasp of the situation is sort of impressionistic. I would love to hear all your thoughts.
Hey everyone! I know that Rochester had an organized trick-or-treat day on the 26th, but how often do people get trick-or-treaters on actual Halloween (the 31st)? Should I stock a bowl of candy just in case?
I want to reinforce for everyone, in a year with a top to bottom challenging ballot, that we could be facing significant cuts to the school district if the referendum fails. I'm choosing to support it but I'm not going to fault people who are against it. If it fails, the School Board could be forced to make significant cuts.
When facing reductions, we want members equipped with an understanding of the system and reasonableness to evaluate and select cuts that least impact our children's school experience. Electing folks with an axe to grind or no demonstrated desire to govern is a recipe for disaster.
As a parent, I'd advocate for you to elect:
There is a lot of realities that can impact voter's decisions around spending more on education, but I would beg you to consider these candidates. The job will demand both an understanding of and capacity to make difficult decisions - because cutting budgets/buildings/programs/staff could be their responsibility their first day on the job.
Started earlier tonight, still down as of now. Hopefully they get it fixed.
I live in NW Rochester, last night our internet went down (I have spectrum internet) at about midnight. Between a full-time job, a three-year old to raise, a puppy to watch, and an apartment to clean, the only time I really get to myself to relax is midnight to 1am lol. So normally I sit down and watch some videos/browse the internet. It was a minor inconvenience last night, but I guess there was a service interruption that wasn’t restored until 6am this morning. Oh well, it is what it is. Lo and behold, again this evening the internet goes down right at midnight and won’t be back up for a few hours. I’m frustrated because I feel like I already pay too much for internet, and if I can’t even rely on it, what’s the point? I’m fairly new to Rochester, wondering if my issues are shared by others or I just live in an unfortunate area with interruptions.
I'm currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer at Mayo. I'm in my early 30ies and am interested in acupuncture specifically. Has anyone here used the integrative medicine at Mayo?
Any insight on NE neighborhood near northern heights drive and northern hills drive? Near Churchill Elementary. We have little kids and are relocating and I am nervous to land in a year lease in a less than ideal area. Thanks!
I’m posting here because the Admins in Spotted in Rochester on Facebook denied my post because they didn’t like me critiquing Thai Pop.
Let me preface by saying I think their food is amazing & the ambiance is wonderful. The service was also pretty good for how busy it was. I really like the restaurant. What I don’t like is their system for paying your bill.
I’ve run into this in a couple places so it’s not just Thai Pop, but I detest those card readers they use that make the customer pay their bill at the table (rather than the server running your card & returning for you to sign). It wouldn’t bother me so much if it weren’t for two things:
The automatic suggested tip is 23%. TWENTY THREE. The lowest suggested tip is 20%. As I said, the food is great but in no world has a server earned over 1/5 my bill for doing the minimum expectations of their job (and not to say they were a bad server - they weren’t - but they certainly didn’t do anything to justify that high a gratuity).
I could survive with the tip being automatically set at 23% (it is adjustable) if the server didn’t hover over your shoulder watching you pay/adjust to something more appropriate. I’m not comfortable with that.
I’ll wrap it up by saying I always tip on my meals when I go out - I was a server for many years - but I am just very frustrated with these business practices. It’s already expensive to eat out, and this is just ridiculous imo.
What are your thoughts?
Edit: It’s NOT just Thai Pop that does this, this is just the place that pushed me over the edge to post about it & I can’t edit the title to more accurately reflect all the restaurants that do this.
With the weather being crappy this week is there any indoor trick or treating or Halloween events for kids?
I am considering moving out to Rochester for this job and have to decide by December. I am currently living in LA but feel ready for a change in scenery and want to climb up in my career. I am prepared for the cold as I visited last year during January but am curious about young professionals experience / Quality of life in the city.
Hello! If I have 2 days off, should I visit Minneapolis or Saint Paul ? Which one is more worth it to explore ? More attraction/activities/nightlife? And what are must visit in both? Thank youu
In recent times, there have been multiple incidents of serious horrible crimes taking place in this city with relatively very lenient punishments. A few are: a 20 year old man given only 180 days for raping two young girls; and most recently, the 5 year prison sentence imposed on 20-year-old Isaac Gutierrez for shooting and killing another man over a parking space.
What can we do about this? These dangerous people are currently living amongst us/will be living amongst us without NEARLY enough chance to rehabilitate them (if that even works). Can we contact our local government to air our grievances? Can this change?
Edit: accidentally included a crime from NY's Rochester
Something's gotta be done about this Finstead halfbrain that's our congressman. This is what happens when you elect people who have no clue to congress, people.
Hey folx! Anyone else going to the Rocky Horror Show tonight at Pop’s? I’ve never been to Pops art. Are there any good places to grab a drink before hand?
Does Mayo clinic offer remote medical scribe services to physicians at Mayo? There are no job postings for medical scribes on the Mayo job portal, which makes me think that Mayo clinic might be contracted with a scribe agency.
I am a foreign medical graduate with 1 year of medical scribing experience. Are there any chances I could get hired at Mayo if I were to offer my medical scribe services at a lower rate than a scribe agency? Does anyone have any advice or input on who to approach about this?
Thank you in advance.
