Home of the Tunisian crochet "Stitch of the Week" series started right here on Reddit on August 8 2020! Tunisian crochet is a craft that uses longer hooks than standard crochet hooks. It makes a thicker, spongier, softer fabric than normal crochet.

It is not known where this style of crochet was invented but it is most probable that it was invented in France or England. Also, Tunisian crochet is often confused with knooking, but they are two separate crafts. If you are interested in knooking, try r/knooking instead.

Just finished my first blanket!

Oops, I stretched it out a bit for this picture. 😅

I'm gifting this to a dear friend for her first pregnancy with a baby girl.

Pattern: Modern Squares Throw by Brenda-Leigh Bennett.

Yarn used: Caron Jumbo Ombré in Carrara Marble for the body and Caron One Pound in Fig for the border.

Meeting gauge

Hello, I am doing the prep for my first, big tunisian crochet project, the Wanderung Pullover by Justtheworsted! My swatch is supposed to be 17 sts by 13 rows in tunisian simple stitch= 10x10 cm. I am getting about 10cm in stiches, but barely 9cm in rows with a 5.5 hook, any suggestions on what to can do to better meet the gage requirements? (Apologies for my awkward phrasing, I am still learning the terminology). Thank you in advance for any tips or tricks ypu have to offer!

The AliExpress Tunisian hook set.

Anyone else who've ordered the metal AliExpress hook set, have you tried any other brand's cables to see if they will fit these hooks? I'd love to get a shorter cable than the shortest 40cm the kit comes with, like a 20cm, but the store that sells the kit does not have anything shorter.

I know TL Yarns tried another brand's cable and it didn't fit, but I can't remember the brand.

Help! I missed a bead in my patterned bracelet

I just started making tunisian beaded bracelets. I thought I checked my beads really well before I started crocheting, but I missed one bead in my pattern. That is going to throw off the rest of the bracelet. I've never done any tunisian crochet besides this. Is there an easy way to fix this? I left off a translucent blue bead.

Alternative Case for AliExpress Hook Set?

https://preview.redd.it/fkqflinv69yc1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=acb42952dcd54ee4577f189b1b2a9a3486609325

So, for those of us that have purchased the Tunisian Crochet Hook set from AliExpress, has anyone switched out the case for something else? Where did you get it? Is anyone making custom cases for this set, or ones that would work with this set? The one it came with is fine, it does the job, but I kinda want something a little nicer.

Learned yet another new stitch today!

I'm in the process of working on a tunisian crochet afghan. The one I'm working off of (happy to provide link if anyone is interested) has 12 different tunisian stitches. The crochet along only does one square of each stitch but I'm doing 5 of each so I can thin out my stash and have a bigger blanket. So far I've done TSS, TKS, and I've just learned tunisian full stitch today. Not perfect but I'm happy with it!

Feather stitch but with tunisian crochet!

Today I randomly saw a video of how to crochet the feather stitch and I started wondering if it was possible to make something similar with tunisian crochet. I ended up with this swatch after experimenting a little. No idea if it's already a "real" stitch, I can barely find any tunisian crochet stitches outside of the basic ones.

I started with a foundation row with an even number. Then for the forward pass, I made a repeat of a knit stitch, yarn over, skip next stitch. The return pass, for this row and every row, is the standard one. For the next row I made the feather stitches.

Yarn over, go into the first space, pull up loop, yarn over, make a knit stitch into the skipped stitch from the first row, yarn over, go into the next space, pull up loop, yarn over and pull through 6 loops, chain 1, yarn over. Start each feather stitch in the same space you ended in before. End the last feather stitch in the 2 loops of the final stitch, then yarn over and pull up the final loop in the same stitch you ended the feather stitch in. Make sure there's a yarn over after each feather stitch so the loop count is the same. Return pass.

The next row is basically the same, except for the knit stitch in the middle of the feather stitches. You still yarn over but you pull up the loop in the same spot where you started the feather stitch in the row below, so that loop is angled to the right. Now repeat this row for as long as you'd like.

Finish off by chaining 1 and making a knit stitch single crochet, make a feather stitch as described but go through all 7 loops, knit stitch single crochet in the bars slightly hidden between the feather stitch loops, feather stitch again and so on. It should still be 1 stitch less than your starting chain.

I hope my explanation makes sense, it was a little hard to write, but if there are any questions, I'll try my best to answer them!

(Also this stitch is quite thick, so keep that in mind for your project choice)

projects for beginners (not scarves or blankets!!)

hi! i’ve been crocheting for a couple months now and i’ve been looking into trying tunisian crochet. so far i’ve found that i learn best by throwing myself into a project and figuring it out along the way. but, most of the beginner projects seem to be scarves or blankets. with summer approaching, you can understand why i don’t really want to make either. do you have recommendations for projects that would not be too difficult but aren’t either of these? thank you so much!

Half done with this dress, just one more side to make. 4 mm hook and own pattern that's in testing now. I can't wait to wear this, it's going to be so pretty. Custom gradient cake of 1200 meters.

Combining Tunisian Crochet and Knitting?

I am relatively new to Tunisian Crochet, but I think it is pretty awesome so far. I also knit which brings me to my question: is there any reason I can't hot swap some knitting needles on my interchangeable cable on the return pass to do some rows of knitting before returning to the crochet? Has this been done before? I tried looking it up and couldn't find anything.

I think it could lend itself to some pretty cool patterns and textures. I am curious on your thoughts.

Lost 'count' of the vertical stitches

Hi

I just started learning Tunisian crochet a few months ago. I'm working on a sweater vest right now: https://youtu.be/tYMKTlaFjDs?si=kNMHXl_KDJaV40WF

Initially I had a problem with uneven horizontal rows, and I learnt how to troubleshoot that. I picked up pace, and I've now realised I've somehow lost some height in my work. The right end of my work has around 21 stitches, while the left has just 17!! Please help..how did I end up here, and what do I do now?
