I think I got it! Half brioche decreases

I didn’t get any feedback on my last post but I think I figured it out!

It occurred to me that the wonky k2tog (green in pic) might be because I was k2tog a purl and a knit.

So my next attempt (red was to purl the two sts on the wrong side that I would then k2tog on the right side. It looked better but I lost the slipped nature of the half brioche and so it still wasn’t matching the right side.

Then I realized what I should do is slip the first purl on the wrong side rather than purling both. Then the k2tog would have that slipped stitch look (purple).

I’m proud of myself for figuring it out! Does it look ok?

Progress on my circular yoke tee. The lace yoke (silk with stainless steel and rayon thread) is finished, now I'm starting the body in a handspun merino rayon blend in stockinette.

Help with left and right leaning decreases in half brioche

I’m making the Emma top, which is in half brioche. The pattern calls for double decreases for the top portion, and I wasn’t happy with how they looked, particularly the left leaning decreases. I wasn’t aware of a cleaner left decrease (https://youtu.be/qxGPuEYp5hE?si=uwCFyGkBi0GUSCo9 starts around 10 minutes), but it’s a single decrease, not double

So I ripped back and did single decreases every right side rather than the double decreases less often. I used the LL decrease in that video but k2tog for RL decreases. Now usually k2tog looks clean but mine somehow look funky and the LL decreases look great! It must be to do with the brioche because I never have this issue normally.

I have also tried twisted k2tog and that looks worse. Any advice?

In the pic above: Left panel is my second attempt with single decreases. Looks better I think but k2tog looks weird. Right one is the first attempt with the double decreases on each side.

How to even out uneven stitches on silk mohair sleeves

I've tried pulling individual threads, stretching and pulling the whole sleeve and its still a mess. The area i most want to fix are the stitches between my double pointed needles. It's a gift for a close friend and I want it to be as perfect as a nice hand knit can be. Any tips or tricks folx out there have to share with me?

Front and back of Aran sweater always the same?

I'm about to finish the front side of an Aran sweater, and I was thinking that maybe the back should be a little different. On the front center there's a prominent saxon braid cable, which looks great, but I'd rather not have a central feature in the back and would just do something simple.

Do you think it would visually look bad if the front and the back of an Aran sweater are different?

When do you admit a color scheme doesn’t work?

I’m working on the WestKnits Fantastitch shawl and wanted to try a more adventurous color scheme. In my day to day life I wear a lot of bright colors, high contrast, not afraid of a pattern but, a lot of my knits tend to be more reserved and as a consequence, I give them away or they languish in my closet, destined to become moth food.

I’ve always loved Stephen West’s patterns and finally feel ready to tackle one (despite some mistakes so far, c’est la vie, part of the process and all of that.

At what point do you feel like you’ve got a sense of the color scheme and whether or not it’s working? I think I like these colors together but, I vascillate between loving it and frogging it.

Slightly annoying to frog because the first few rows are already trimmed so those scraps will be frustrating to repurpose.

Open to suggestions ranging from frog it, looks terrible, to sticking it out and finishing or anything in between. Adventurous colorful knitters pls help!

Hood on pullover

Hi all I'm new here but an experienced knitter. I've never made a hood before from someone else's pattern. I am wondering if anyone knows of books or resources that suggest ways of shaping them. I have tried a LOT of methods (short rows in a ton of different places basically, after picking up the neckline). I keep getting very close to what I want, but not quite right. The most recent one is pretty simple.

I have googled a lot and I just want to make sure I'm not reinventing the wheel--if there are books or blogs I haven't found that have guidance. I want to eventually sell the pattern, and if there's a simpler or better way to do things that is established, that would be good to know. Thanks!
