I am finding a tremendous amount of enjoyment in my crochet. While I love the aesthetic of the patterns, I have such a hard time following them - to the point of being defeated.
I have begun to just practice stitches. Single crochet is my favorite but I can do Single, Half-Double, Double, chain and I think I do the slip stitch but I need to be more deliberate about this one. Pretty much I'm practicing each day. Today I finally did my first successful magic circle.
Here is my struggle - counting stitches is hard for me and why I stepped away from cross stitch. I am more a kinesthetic learner. Are there satisfying items that can be made more from a muscle memory or as-you-go that are forgiving?
Currently: I am learning how the stitches work and what happens when I do different things with them. I can make a flat, a round. I can make a sphere (still not great, but I'm getting there). I make long strips and sew them together and my dog and cat have "scarves". I make cat toys that are flat, round, have ruffles, I attach bells. I have coasters for drinks. I am playing with materials - I think cotton may be best for a dish rag. I value things that I can use / wear / enjoy. I guess I"m looking for satisfaction and not perfection.
If you have videos or other resources - that is great. Thank you so much
Had to rinse out some dirt, currently wrapped in a towel, is that more or less likely to cause mildew/must while drying?
Basically the title. I'm freehanding some soap saver pouches and I noticed on my first one that when I switched from my bobble pattern to moss stitch, it shrank significantly. It's not a huge deal, it still works fine but I did have to add a border to sew the sides up without it being too small.
I'm wondering if the best way to approach this is to increase my stitch count when I get to the moss section or if it's a better idea to just increase hook size. Or both 🤷♀️
This is pretty low stakes so I'm not too worried about it, they're just for personal use, but I'm interested in the answer as a learning experience.
Forgive if the flair is wrong; I don’t post often!
A friend’s 10 year old wants to learn to crochet, and I don’t see her often (maybe 1-2x every couple months; parents are divorced with split custody and dad is a devil). I have a little kit of hooks, yarn, stitch markers, scissors, etc, along with some solid colored worsted weight yarn.
I’m seeing her tomorrow and will show her basics, etc, but would love suggestions for any books, websites, videos, etc for her to reference in between times (neither kid’s mom or grandma crochet, so I’m her only reference aside from books, etc).
Thanks so much! ❤️
I'm trying to make a bag but I lost count of how many rows I've done 😭
I had a goal to make a blanket but changed my mind.. it didn’t give what I wanted. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
And ignore the ends we can all see it😔
I saw this picture on Facebook a while back and saved it, but I don't have any details! I really want to get this exact yarn for a hexagon cardigan that I plan to make, but I feel like there are a few colorways that look similar. Can anyone help me identify the EXACT one that is in this picture? Please and thank you in advance!
I decided I am going to make blankets for our niece and nephews for next Christmas. Our niece and youngest nephew are twins and are 12. Our oldest nephew is 14.
I sent text messages to the twins asking their four favourite colours. I don't have our oldest's phone number yet. Anyways, I got four colours from our youngest nephew and would like people's thoughts. I'm not sure what kind of blanket I am going to do yet. I need to look through my different stitch book to see what I might like. Just want to get some thoughts.
These are the closest colours I could find for what he gave me, in the picture. All are Red Heart Super Saver yarn.
This is what he told me: Seafoam green, emerald, turquoise, and lavender (or really any other shade of purple)
Thanks
So I crocheted a lap blanket in the almond stitch and while I was out of town, my cat chewed a huge hole in it (4 sq inches) about 3 inches from the end. I thought I would just frog it back and use the left over yarn I had to re finish it. Then I realised it was actually the top (like the end that I started on) and I can't get it to frog. To a point where I can just start crocheting, it's just a bunch of crazy parts of stitches. Is there any way to salvage it?
I thrifted these corded hooks recently and tried to put them to use… but what am I doing? Is this Tunisian crochet? It feels similar to knitting but honestly have no idea what I’m doing
I’ve got this ball of acrylic yarn that I left in a hot car one night. Ever since, it’s had this weird burnt smell. Anyone know how I can get rid of it on a budget? A friend of mine suggested febreze but if I can avoid going out and buying something, I’d like to. Any ideas on how I can get rid of or hide the smell?
Looking for ideas! Maybe a matching or pair of amiguris or idk im intermediate so I've not done that many projects.
What stitch or pattern suggestions do you recommend for very thick yarn.
This is my first real project and I’m really happy with the way the parts came out individually! However, the time has come to attach the brim to the cap and I’m at a loss :/ I was following this guide and it kind of does a “draw the rest of the fucking owl” maneuver.
How do I mate the two? The ribbing is all hdc and about 1” shorter than the cap (per the guide), but doesn’t that mean it’ll just have a gap between the ends?? Where do I go from here?!
I understand what this pattern means, like the double crochets and single, but what puzzles me is how to make it. So magic ring starts off, chain three and double crochets. But then how do I flip it to the right side? It just creates a big hole in the pattern and I really don’t know how to fix it. Any recommendations?
Top is my first ever granny square and bottom is my second attempt. I think I did better with my second one but if anyone has any tips to make them look neater I’d appreciate it.
Wearable crochet accessories for men?
I'm looking to make some wearable crochet accessories for myself. I figure it's a great way to:
I already designed and made a bracelet, which I wear constantly, but it doesn't really stand out.
For context, I am 31m, I wear glasses, and I typically wear button-up plaid shirts and khaki pants. But I encourage you to share whatever ideas you have in case others search for and find this post when looking for inspiration!
I am wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction. I would like to make a cardigan and I found a pattern I liked but it uses a smaller hook and yarn than I want to use. I tried going down in hook size to match the gauge, but it made the drape too stiff and I didn't like it. I would like to try adjusting the pattern.
My gauge swatch is 1/2in larger in both directions. Is there somewhere I can get information about how to adjust the pattern? I don't mind doing the math. But most posts I can find on it just say there is math involved and not really what math it is.
The pattern is a pretty simple granny stitch repeat and I think it would probably not be too hard to do, but I just don't know how to go about it. TIA!
I've been following this video
but my head has this visible seam on it. I can't really tell if hers does as well, but this is bugging me. The row ends with a sl st in to the first st of the row, then ch 1.
Am I doing something wrong? I'm definitely keeping correct count of the number of st.
Hey! I really want to start being able to crochet what I see/want without having to always follow a pattern.
I’ve tried to look up books, etc. on I guess what you could call principals of crochet? Freeform crochet? Crochet pattern making? I’m never sure on what exactly to look up. I want to learn how to crochet certain shapes, how to know amount of inc or dec and in what cadence to create different shapes.
Anyone know any good resources for this?? Thanks in advance!
