DIY crochet kit has awful directions! Can anyone help? 🙏

I have crocheted in the past so I’m not a complete noob, but I’m definitely an amateur. I got this DIY crochet kit from Dollar General but the directions are awful as you see in the picture. I’m confused as to about how many stitches are supposed to be in a row/ with the length is supposed to be, how to make the little black v in between his eyes…. There is a small part at the bottom under “sewing seams” that talks about how many loops are supposed to be in each row, but I’m still so confused… any better written/ detailed instructions or videos would be appreciated!!

Project recs? A blanket that looks like a giant doily

I have a pound of love in white and I want to make a doily-esque blanket. I am okay with it being a little impractical for blanket purposes, I just had a vision of my couch with a big doily on it and I feel a need to execute

Can anyone help me understand the front-neckline of this pattern?

I am making this pattern (https://crochetkim.com/swish-mens-vest/) for a xmas present, and while reading through, I realized that I don’t understand what it wants me to do in the ‘Continue V-Neck Shaping’ section. Can anyone help me, I think the zeros are throwing me off, and the pattern doesn’t have a row count at that point. I am making one size up from hers, the first number in the parentheses.

Reverse Engineering an unusual Pattern - beginner help

Hi! I'm a fairly seasoned beginner. I crocheted sweaters, scarves, bonnets for my children when they were babies, one or two different types of stitches max. I want to make the item pictured but I have no idea how to create the bulbous shapes. Clearly it is stuffed also. I can see that the execution is fairly simple, just not sure about technique. If anyone could point me in the right direction or give me a run down, I'd be so grateful! Thank you.

First time making amigurumi and I'm a little confused by this step in the pattern

I'm working on this amigurumi for a Christmas present. Normally I stick to wearables so this is all kind of new to me. I've been following along pretty well but I'm a little confused by this step. Any help and recommendations would be appreciated!

How to hide ends on the side after switching colors throughout work?

Hi! Hope everyone is well. I am working on a purse (sorta kinda following this video but I kinda fell off of it lol) for my aunt and I need some help figuring out how to hide all of the ends left from switching colors at the ends of rows for the front of it! I would consider myself more beginner (/maybe a bit intermediate) as I've been crocheting for two years but I only have time to do it in bursts and then forget to crochet for like 6 months at a time.

As you can see I have a lot of leftover strands from switching colors (I did it this way). The tutorial I'm following didn't alternate colors, so it doesn't include how to hide the ends. The row pattern is 3 pink, 3 white, and then 1 burgundy (I started running out of burgundy yarn). In the video I'm doing, I make a strap as a loop and then crochet the front and back to either side of the strap so that it has some depth (it is around 21:57 in the video, I know I am probably explaining this poorly)

There were some things I was wondering:

  1. Would it be useful to finish the sides of both pieces with a row of single crochets before I join them together?
    1. Would I be able to hide the strands under this row of single crochet?
  2. would I be able to just hide the strands in the stitches that I make to sew the strap to the front and back pieces?
  3. any other suggestions?

I definitely made this harder on myself than I needed to by not watching the video all the way through but any help or advice is super duper helpful!

Custom crochet hooks - are they for everyone? Please tell me I'm lost

Hi there! I'm not a crochet enthusiast myself, but I'm putting together a secret santa gift for a friend who is a crochet enthusiast. I already bought all the materials to make a few custom polymer clay crochet hooks, I'm just wondering is this an acceptable gift?

Is this something anyone in the hobby would enjoy? Or is it more specific?

I've seen multiple different ways people make these so I wanna do 3 in 3 different styles. I'm thinking one where I don't cover the part that you hold, one that's flatter, and one that's rounded. I'm just not sure if that's a good idea to do, so give me your opinions!

Need help, cant understand how to crochet around a picot stitch

Hello fellow crocheters! I am quite new to this lovely hobby although already have made a couple of basic amigurumis :) However, I was trying to make a cute princess mouse for my mom and can't figure out how to make the paws.

  1. What are the front bars of the stitch? Surely it's not the top V, right?
  2. How do I sc around the picot stitches? What do I insert the hook into?

I've tried a dozen times to figure this out but just can't wrap my head around this.... ANY help is appreciated!

Would you recommend a thicker stitch or a thicker yarn to make a beanie warm?

I'm making a beanie using a pattern that calls for 4 yarn, 5mm, and single crochet BLO. I don't want to restart, but this is not going to be warm at all. I don't really want to buy another yarn, but I'm not sure if changing the stitch and hook size would help.

I was originally thinking a thermal stitch to make it thicker, but I liked the ribbed look. Maybe a camel stich? But would this yarn work to make it thicker? Thanks 💚

Help me turn a Triceratops into a Titanoceratops!

Looking to make my boyfriend's favorite dino, a Titanoceratops. Found this pattern of a triceratops:

https://www.thenicolechase.com/patterns/tanner-the-triceratops

Hoping someone can adjust the pattern for me, willing to pay!!! Changes include: making the frill taller and with a heart shape on top. Looking to have the horns curve forwards. (Can likely figure out horns, but as a beginner crocheter could use help with the frill adjustment.)

Please reach out if you can help me, thank you!!!

Which yarn should I use for a candle cozy to avoid fire risk/melting?

Hi all! So for a Christmas gift I'm planning to buy a candle and crochet a cozy for it. Usually I use acrylic yarn, but I'm worried that it will melt because of the heat from the candle. I also don't want to risk it burning from heat. Will cotton be good for a candle cozy? Or other material?

How do I make this beanie length longer? Or is it too late

Hi I’ve just finished this beanie ready to tie it together but I’ve realised it’s about 2 inches shorter than I need (I want to have a folded bit). Is there a good way to add length that won’t look weird or is this a start over sort of situation? TIA!

Finishing first crochet blanket— wash and dry flat?

Beginner question. Do you wash the blanket you made for someone else prior to gifting it? And then stretch it out (somewhere flat) to dry? I’ve made smaller things that I washed and blocked but I’m a little befuddled. Yet cannot imagine not washing it. Help! Thank you!

I don't understand how to implement 2 chain crochets in a magic ring pattern

Hey there.
I've been getting into crocheting lately and wanted to make a hat for my boyfriend as a christmas present while I'm at it. I found a cute pattern but sadly I'm struggling a bit with understanding the instructions on this one. Specifically, on row 2 (and the following) with the part about "ch2, tr into base of ch2". Do I have to do the two chain stitches into the next stich of the second row I've already done? Or do I crochet them like... into the air and then fumble in the treble crochet? I'm super confused...

(Side note: This is a UK pattern, so a UK treble crochet is synonymous to a US double crochet. A UK double crochet is the same as a US single crochet.)

How do I frog a project that has used multiple strands into different balls easily/without it knotting?

A while ago, I decided to make a basket out of some of my scrap yarn by holding 4 strands at once, but now I've found it pretty ugly and have decided to unravel it into separate balls so I can still use the yarn. Unfortunately, it's become a really big challenge because the yarn keeps knotting and curling in on itself and it's overall just annoying to deal with. Does anyone know of a way to do this more effectively and to prevent all the knotting?

What does "wrong side crocheting" mean while crocheting continuous spirals?

Pattern link: https://www.scribd.com/document/461522717/Crochetballjointeddoll-pdf

The 2) note on the second page says "The description is developed for wrong side crocheting". Does that mean I'm supposed to crochet it inside out (the wrong side being out)? What happens with the beginning of the yarn when starting with a magic ring, since it's usually on the wrong side? Later on it says to crochet into the "back (outer) loops only". Are those loops going to be the ones closer to me or further away from me?

I tried searching but it was mostly explanantions for the difference between the two sides.

Can I technically block my work using a vacuum seal?

Hello! I'm still pretty new to crocheting and I'm traveling my plane pretty soon, I was wondering if I vacuum seal the granny squares for travel if it would help block them?
